Sometimes it's nice to be in Saskatchewan
I noticed that only 2 people had declared an interest in being a Councilor, so I decided to put my name in. When I put my name in, the locals immediately found other local people to declare and force an election. We haven't had an election here in 20 years, often there is a second and third call for candidates. There was a bi election in 2021 to fill a vacant spot. Much larger cities around me are still seeking candidates.
My family and I moved here 2.5 years ago from Southern Ontario and I feel like this was intentional. We've really never been accepted and this just made things worse.
I'm College educated with 3 diplomas, I have 25+ years of business experience and I'm able to speak intelligently. I'm by far the best candidate for this struggling area.
The Village shut me down on my requests for a registered voter list and to schedule a debate. The other 4 candidates have refused to participate in a debate. No big secret that I would expose their weaknesses in a debate and embarass them. However I also have weaknesses myself as I'm not perfect.
I feel like I'm one of the only people who cares about the future of this area and I think I'm going to come in dead last.
The criminal element in town, which I'm strongly opposed to has been intimidating the people who signed my nomination form.
I'm neither Right wing or Left wing, I consider myself a moderate. I will speak loudly on topics that I have experience dealing with and I will choose to defer to an expert on topics where I have very little experience in.
Granted, I'm not the most liked guy on Reddit. But the people around here are the ones that you are angry at for keeping the Sask Party in power. They don't like change and they hate anyone who is different.
I'm in my 40's with a family, an education and a lot of corporate experience in my past. They hate me, because I was born in Ontario.
They are the racist, homophonic, transfobes that you people love to take down.
Can I get some advice or assistance from the good people of reddit? I'm the voice of change in rural Saskatchewan and without your help, I'm going to get destroyed on November 13th and the same 4 council members will return. Nothing will change.
Thank you in advance!
Hello Saskatchewan! I’m an MLT student from Winnipeg and I have some questions for any MLTs that see this post.
I know the pay is slightly higher there compared to Manitoba. I’m looking for workplaces that offer a lot of overtime and callbacks. Also, I’d like to know if there are any signing bonuses or employers who provide accommodations, housing, or other incentives similar to what’s being offered to work in rural Manitoba. I heard that Saskatchewan Health is having a hard time making techs stay there and I wonder why.
Should I try applying there or should I not? If yes, which towns would be the most ideal to work and stay at?
Thank you!
When I went to vote the people volunteering attempted to send me home when I only had my drivers license with my current address on it for ID. They also told me that they had already sent multiple people home because they only had their drivers license and had to have two pieces of ID to vote. This is incorrect. You are able to vote with just your drivers license.
I know this happened to others, but it seems I’m the only person who reported it to Elections Saskatchewan.
If you were sent home or questioned for having only your drivers license to vote, please email Elections Saskatchewan so they can change the way they train people before the next election.
I’m a short filmmaker from Newfoundland, since moving up to Regina I’ve obviously lost my usually “film crew”.
I was thinking about starting a page for filmmakers in Saskatchewan to network, find actors, cinematographers, SFX makeup artists, etc.
Would anyone here be interested in joining?
I know it can be really hard to find local talent to help you within your projects, and I feel this group is really necessary!

Before the provincial election I had made some respectful comments about not wanting to vote NDP. I received a poor karma score as an outcome. Now I have difficulty posting. Can I get a few votes out of the goodness of your hearts?
Hey I am 21 years old and wanting to get my status card. I am not registered within a reserve or band, both parents deceased. Was adopted but just need to be pointed in the direction of where to go so I can get started on this likely long process Any help is appreciated!
According to Elections Saskatchewan Data, the provincial NDP bring in roughly half as much in terms of campaign donations and contributions compared to the Saskatchewan Party [1]. It is an interesting discrepancy given the SK parties economic and fiscal track run so far, which is largely one of deficits and cuts
It is pretty clear which party is more responsible with their finances, given the historical record as one only needs to look at Grant Devine's former PC government to see the broad issues of corruption and economic mismanagement, and that is before you even get to the charges brought against his former MPs and cabinet members [2]. The public relations fallout was so bad that they effectively rebranded into the Sask. Party, alongside (ironically) some provincial Liberals. In contrast, Roy Romanow and Lorne Calvert, both NDP, have made incredible strides to pay down Grant Devine's significant debt that the province bears, and both have managed to help the province avoid bankruptcy.
Its worth noting that the Sask. Party may be resorting to their old tricks. For instance at the Sask. Research Council, there allegedly is a brewing culture of nepotism and silence that is directly traceable to the Sask. Party cabinet as reported by the CBC [3]. This is unacceptable behavior in a democracy and should not be tolerated. The voting public should not allow this to go unchecked. There is a significant risk that publicly fueled R&D will be privatized, much to the taxpayers chagrin.
In terms of misappropriated funds, there is a new provincial police service no constituents asked for, and which was seemingly borne out of the Premiers distrust of the federal police service, the RCMP. This is in contrast to the education and healthcare systems which are decaying and which there is a high degree of voter concern, with significant issues and problems due to Covid that will not be fixed easily. And don't forget the refusal of the SK party to offer teachers a better or even competitive contract, as they are facing increased pressures due to Covid and other factors.
I don't mean to depress anyone, I seriously question what the Sask. Party is doing here to our home from an economic point of view. More or less, I believe everyone should demand greater accountability from their representatives, no matter their party. Keep the pressure on! This is a democracy in action, and you have every right to your vote and voice.

Hi All
Im looking for any info on Weyburns Octoberfest "Connections" festival. From what I can tell this would have been back in the '90s.
I was going through some things that belonged to an Uncle who passed years ago and found a collection of mugs printed as commemorative glasses from the annual celebration.
Any info that might help me connect with someone who these mugs might mean something to would be greatly appreciated. r/weyburnsk/ seems to be pretty dead so I thought this would be a better place to ask.
edit: https://ibb.co/60KsVgf for an image of the mugs
I don't know what standards the government(s) have for doctors but it's to the point I have to drive to the big city to find a decent one.
I almost died because the local physicians kept stabbing me with pain killers even after 5 trips to the ER in 4 days. Went to the city and there i ended up in hospital for 13 days.
My son didn't get an exray until 4 days later for a broken arm because the xrays cause "tissue damage."
My wife was dehydrated, it wasn't the partial retinal detachment that caused her vision issues.
The guy who went into diabetic shock and needed CPR on the way to the hospital just needed Ativan for anxiety.
I'm pissed and sooner or later someone is going to die.

Be kind and interesting! Vulgar/offensive posts or personal attacks will be deleted.
Regina, Prince Albert and Estevan all made donations to the SaskParty. Does anyone know why this would happen? Shouldn't a City be non-partisan to provincial politics? I'm puzzled... but I'm sure there's a good reason. Can anyone fill me in?
So I've been referred for assessment to the cochlear program and a 2 month hearing aid trial is mandated for it. Does anyone know if hearing aid providers charge a fee for this or is it covered under the cochlear implant program?
This is a genuine question for people living in rural constituencies. I’m not looking to start arguments or criticize.
I’m wondering:
If you voted sask party, why?
If you voted NDP, why?
If you don’t want to say how you voted - what do you think influenced your neighbours to vote one way or another? What were the key issues and emotions for you and your neighbours this election?
ETA: I appreciate the discourse from urban voters, and I understand your frustration. Please be kind and respectful in your responses. What I am really looking for is input from the rural voters.
So I don't get it, the expected tip is 15 to 20% .. if I'm wrong just look at the Canadian guidelines for visitors.
This is bullshit. The other thing that pisses me is that you are actually supposed to tip pre-tax; So you don't tip on the total bill with gst and pst included. Yet all restaurants give the bill in full
2nd Inflation. My beer used to be $5 x 20% tip was $1.00 , my beer is now $9 x 20% = $.180 For one for me . A 80 cent increase so why do I need to tip you more (tips used to be 5 to 15%) Inflation is captured in both the wage and the price increases to us consumers. As my product i purchase goes up the 10% tip return goes in the servers pocket as well.
4th. To prove a point if I buy a bottle of wine at a restaurant and its $25 and I tip 20% that's $5.00 in the pocket. If i buy a $250 of wine at the same place that's a $50 tip, what was done different to earn the extra $45.00? ?
There are a lot of things to criticize about living here, but I do love that we don’t have to think about “falling back” on Sunday! For the brief period I lived elsewhere, I absolutely hated changing time twice a year!
Does anyone know why there are so many rejected ballots? Is this common? I counted about 1.5k already
Hello, Sask!
After watching the recent election in Sask, along with those in NB and BC - I noticed something interesting: your MLAs often win with smaller margins compared to what we see in Ontario.
In Ontario, our provincial ridings have typically matched up with federal ones, meaning provincial candidates need just as many votes to win as their federal counterparts do. This setup has made our ridings larger and, for many Ontarians, has raised questions about effective representation. There are exceptions in Northern Ontario, and as federal districts shift in the future, Ontario’s provincial ridings will no longer align with them.
In Ontario, there’s often pushback against adding seats to our legislature, with some people saying it would create "more useless government." and be a waste of money. (I've worked out that adding about 70-76 more ridings would cost each taxpayer 2$ a year)
So, I’m reaching out to other provincial subreddits to hear your perspective.
For those of you in Saskatchewan, do you feel better represented by your MLA than by your federal MP? Does having smaller provincial ridings lead to better outcomes from your provincial government? And would you like to see your legislature expand or contract? Given the political culture in the Sask Party, has there ever been a Mike Harris-style effort to shrink your legislature?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
Dear Saskatchewan,
Rather than deepening the divide between urban and rural communities following the recent election, we must seek common ground. Healthcare emerged as a pivotal issue, influencing the outcome. Rural residents still harbor resentment over the previous government's hospital closures, while urban dwellers feel the current administration has not adequately addressed existing healthcare challenges. Ultimately, regardless of location, we require a robust, publicly funded healthcare system. Additionally, we need to prioritize improved education, upgraded highways, and increased affordability for essential goods and services. We all experience the strain of accessing healthcare and recognize the importance of equipping future generations with the tools for success.
Let us embrace our differences while rejecting divisive "us versus them" politics. Such destructive rhetoric only serves to entrench positions without considering the province's best interests.
Hi Fellow Saskatchewan Residents,
The provincial election is over; however, we are still going.
Civic elections are coming up shortly, and the more people who show up and vote, the more legitimate municipal councils become. Municipalities in this province have their power derived from having elected officials who can listen to local constituents; the more people who vote, the more power they have to advocate for residents. Municipalities have little constitutional legitimacy in Canada other than being an area of responsibility for the province. Municipalities' only power is derived from their enabling legislation, what the province allows them to handle, and elected officials.
So please, have a voting plan for the civic election:
Research your candidates
Find your polling station
Vote
So again, please vote for your local municipal election this fall; it's more than voting for someone to fix potholes on the road.
