Alright so I’m in Sarasota and I just hunkered down for Helene at my place. We lost internet for a day and power was flickering in and out but never went out fully. No flooding either, we’re in flood zone D. Should I be dipping out for Milton? Like what kind of hurricane should make me leave? I heard any hurricane hitting you head on you should leave. Advice greatly appreciated thank you.
I'm always sort of torn because my apartment is pretty far inland and it's in the highest zone, but there's also a lot of trees around. We evacuated for Irma and Ian and apparently never lost power here but the drive back was harrowing, we just made it before 75 flooded near Port Charlotte. Idk... How is everyone feeling? How do you make the call? My car is not super reliable right now so I'm on the fence.
Gods sent me a blessing or a curse?
Can someone recommend a handyman that can put boards up? Located in Sarasota.
I tried doing a pickup order at Walmart and even checked Sam’s club. Already out of stock. Am I going have to go in store and hang around and see if I can at least get a pack of water. Are people already panicking this early already 😃 should I go to Walmart now ???
EDIT I got water guys! Thank you
41 is closed by the Winn Dixie south nokomis or Venice. Definitely one fatality, a motorcycle rider. Several bikes parked like they were together. I didn't see another car involved, and the bike was laying on its side, it wasn't rolled or destroyed. Hard to tell what happened, but be careful out there.
i think it’s obnoxiously apparent the users of reddit who reside in sarasota make it their own job to tear down anyone who objects to someone who doesn’t follow their personal agenda — instead of tying yourself to an idea, let’s discuss these political topics and create a bridge in our community.
it’s only destructive for our future to be so uptight and presumptuous on conversation.
i dont support all of these republican amendments, but your uproar on this post is the exact reason why it should exist.
You don't need to buy several weeks worth of water and toilet paper every single time a hurricane is coming through. Maybe consider getting refillable containers like a sane human being.
That is all.
Seems like it will happen with the new storm coming from across the gulf. This is nuts.
I've lived in Florida almost 20 years and been through a number of hurricanes. People go crazy for sandbags, but I don't get what they are for. I can see they would be helpful along a stream to shore up the banks and help prevent it from breaching, but I don't get what good they are around a house. They aren't a water tight seal, water will go right through a stack of them, and then in addition to a flooded house you have all these heave wet sandbags. I guess they'd be good to put along the bottom of doors to help prevent windblown water from getting in (I use bags of wood chips, and then use them to replenish what's washed away). So educate me, what do people use sandbags for, and do they work?
Hello, all. I'm a 20-something looking to return to university, and I need someone that can help me. Now, it's a European university that I'm looking at, specifically a Business Analytics BsC program, and I need someone that I can lean on to help me through the process. For admissions, I need to take a mathematics exam, which I will need some help preparing for, but otherwise, I need help preparing for the first year's courses. If you know a great tutor that could help me with some like this, please let me know. Obviously, I am in the Sarasota area which is why I'm writing here, so the closer the better, but I would easily be willing to travel an hour to Tampa or somewhere else if it means a higher quality tutor. Thank you.
If you own your home or plan to own a home, vote yes on 5! This will help lower property taxes for homestead properties. It will not benefit developers or landlords.
Anyone know if olearys in bayfront park is open?
Does anyone know if there is any FEMA or state assistance available for condominium associations?
My first post in this community, feel free to help me correct it if anything is wrong.
Would like to know if anyone knows what to do in this situation, my stepdad can’t perform any type of job currently and is unable to get any income to pay bills. Is there a way to get some sort of help for this situation?
PS: would really, really appreciate if anyone could repost.

Anyone know of any small scrap recyclers that want metal and appliances for free? Our HOA has a ton of appliances on LBK and I can get them in if they have interest in this.
I know there's two gay bars, but people say mostly men are there. I can't find any events where ppl meet specifically either :/ hhh idk what to do
Everywhere i go there's traffic..is it construction or just shitty drivers cause i have never seen it this bad and ive been raised and born here my whole life.
Ok, northeast refugee here there’s one aspect of driving on Sarasota that I cannot get
Making a left turn in traffic (whether or not there’s a turning “pocket”). What I’m expecting is you come up as close as possible to the center and even start crossing over the center without interfering with oncoming traffic (of course) so that you can patiently wait for an opening. What I’m also expecting is that if someone going the other way is making a left turn at same intersection he would freaking do the same, right? Instead people here just stop on their tracks not moving an inch to the left blocking the view of the oncoming traffic making my left turn hard (and theirs)
I’ll take the hate off the air but what’s with that, has anyone else noticed it here?
