city of san mateo hired a contractor Laz Parking to hand out parking ticket.
I got one today because of the street sweeping, I didn't pay enough attention to the red font street cleaning schedule on top of the sign. $43. yikes.

be careful out there
I'm morbidly curious to try biking to the airport (either part way or all the way) for trips when all I have is a backpack carryon. I regularly commute from San Mateo to Oyster Point for work so the distance is within range, but I don't know where I'd lock up bike.
Has anyone done this before? Any tips?
Weird encounter on the San Mateo Central Park trail. Wearing all black, a ~30-40 y/o looking man with tan skin and a camera strapped to his chest paced past my group and another declaring, “Allah is a pedophile!” He repeated it the whole time he was walking past, fist raised high above head.
This was near the tennis courts, about 4:15pm. Told the park ranger this was happening, as it’s a matter of obviously inciting/offensive hate speech, disruption, disturbance around children and families etc.
Anybody have info on this?
I've been looking at some table tennis places on Google maps but am a little intimidated. I've heard people at clubs are super good. Does anyone know of any places if I know how to play and am looking to improve seriously?
I got a Nextdoor notification about an officer-involved shooting on the Burlingame/San Mateo border early this morning but haven’t seen anything else about it. Just curious if anybody has additional info on this?
Looking for music open mic nights in the area (10 miles or less). Thanks.
So due to circumstances beyond my control, I didn't get Thanksgiving dinner this year. I was sad but then I was scrolling thru IG and noticed that Gigi's Cafe in Burlingame (which I had started following in my quest for the best sandwich in the area) was posting about their "Thanksgiving Dinner Sandwich" and that today was the last day until February to get it. Well that was it - an excuse to give them a try and that is exactly what I did.
all I have to say is that IT IS DELICIOUS! Nice and warm and packed with juicy turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, mayo (I got regular mayo instead of the garlic mayo) and greens on a Dutch Crunch roll. A very substantial sandwich indeed and since I hadn't eaten since around 5 am, I pretty much wolfed it down.
So Gigi's is offically on my list and I'll be trying their tuna sandwich soon of course! HIGHLY recommend. It's on Anza street just across from Embassy Suites.
Does anyone know the history of the large stone wall that runs along Stonehedge in San Mateo? Could it date back to the Rancho de las Pulgas era?
Drove by a few minutes back and most of north and south bound lanes were closed off and police cars and SUV's were everywhere. Anybody know what the story is?
I don't have a picture, but if you've gone to Bridgepointe in the evenings, this place is there almost every time I go in the evening, and it just gets more crowded. I went by tonight, and there was a line to the tent (which is at the corner of Fashion Island Blvd and the 92 Off-Ramp) from the Target/Bridgepointe parking lot along the path there. Dare I say, it had more people waiting for it than the Chick-Fil-A and the California Fish Grill combined.
Does anyone have any info about this place? I'm a little surprised it can even exist for as long as it has, I thought there must be some laws against it, but what do I know?
Got my first speeding ticket a few weeks ago and was wondering what the best way to get a reduced fine and traffic school is to no get anything on my record. Ticket was for 15 over and they gave me several options: ask the court to reduce fine without going to court, request a trail by written declaration and appear in court. What option have people had the most success with?
I’m looking for a reliable transportation service for my mom who is 88 & uses a walker. I’ve used Uber/Lyft and the drivers aren’t all that helpful with helping her get her walker into the trunk. I drive her most the time, but wanted to see if there was a service available in the area that anyone could recommend?
Hi! I'm looking for recommendations to rent an event space for 12 for a bday with cocktails and snacks. Would love a cool vibe and open to anything on the Pennisula to south bay.
Has anyone else found it incredibly difficult to get a job in the area? I’ve had 6 interviews with the county of San Mateo, 1 private industry, and dozens of applications in both sectors with no responses. I’m trying to move back to the area to be with family and it feels impossible. I think not having a masters degree is hurting me but ironically, getting one will only be a possibility once I’m back in the Bay Area.
The city is once again opening the discussion on the Humboldt bike lanes. There will be a public meeting on December 4 to gather input and then it will come up to City Council again.
There will be huge turnout from those pissed about the loss of parking. If you value these lanes and the whole plan to establish a solid network of bike friendly networks in the city I urge you to attend and speak up, and reach out to those who may not be entrenched in the issue but value the lanes.
I see the lanes used every single day by workers in the neighborhood on bikes, scooters and boards; multiple parent/child groupings heading to or from school; and many others from waycearlg in the morning to far into the night.
The city conducted plenty of outreach on this project which is sort of the bike master plan. They spent over a million bucks on the whole project including a significant federal grant as I recall; and they promised a serious effort at mitigating parking losses but there has been practically no real effort visible. For example they seem incapable of conjuring a parking permit program, stepping up commercial vehicle enforcement, or finding parking locations other than the streets.
The city also wasted about 1/4 of a particular budget line conducting yet another “complete streets study” which included a repeat of the unwieldy outreach exercises they convinced just a few budget cycles before.
The likely outcome here is that the parking warriors will win; the bike lanes will be removed; and we’ll be back a full step on the bike master plan, and cyclists and pedestrians will once again face brutally unsafe conditions in North Central.
I don’t know why any granting agency would give us another dime for infrastructure if the city botches this.
Looking for recommendations for good and genuine dentists in San Mateo area that accept Delta Dental. I have been with the Onsite dental with my company, but am finding them shady/greedy- always trying to trick me to get extra services.
I'm a college student coming back home and need about 3 weeks' worth of work, any hours, any days, any type of work. I have a food handlers certificate and am 19 and a guy. Any recommendations for such a small timeframe?
Ya’ll know if there are any outlets for my laptop there?
Any insights on what the fireworks were at 8:30 this evening? It seemed too big / organized to just be some kids setting them off, but I don't see anything about it anywhere.
I moved to San Mateo recently and am looking for a good general practitioner. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!
Hi,
I recently moved to San Mateo with my wife and kid. My 3 year old is very particular about what he eats. He is very fond of sour dough bread. Are there any local bakeries which make good sour dough breads? On the East Coast, there is this chain called When pigs fly which my family preferred. Hoping to find something similar here. Thanks!
