Anybody have recommendations for someone they've worked with for radiant heat repair? Also what's the range I should be expecting for diagnosis/repair?
I don’t know if I just have a bad memory, they actually changed it, or there’s some Mandela effect going on but both my wife and I seem to remember it having one.
Hi all! I am looking for a 1 bed 1 bath close to downtown/central park. My one requirement is to have a gym (and preferably in-unit washer/drawer). Budget is less than $3,500 but willing to go higher for the right place. Any suggestions? I have toured 55 W 5th and station park green but the reviews don't look too promising. I also toured Park Place which I liked but the reviews are mixed. I saw Ryan Tower but the property manager said utilities were usually $300???? I am also looking into maybe Mode? I am new to NorCal so I am having a really tough time making a decision and would love some help!! I am also open to Palo Alto/Menlo Park and maybe Redwood City.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be in San Mateo, but somewhere on the peninsula side?
Does anyone know if they have a 24 hour attendant to take cash this early? The one off the 92 for clarification
We will have two energetic, capable, thoughtful and hardworking young women on our city council starting this December. I know both of them well and am delighted to see them both win their races.
Measure T looks to be a solid win too.
So I cast my ballots electronically in Millbrae today. They give a card that you insert into the voting machines, and when you're done with selections, your ballot is printed there at the booth, but when you put your ballot in the box, they're not concealed in envelopes. Anyone find this kinda odd?
I am looking for recommendations for local owned pet stores.
I prefer to avoid large chains like Petco and Pet Smart.
Specifically Dog products/food.
Thank you.
San Mateo Co Parks sent an email late this afternoon that Sawyer Camp Trail will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday this week due to Red Flag fire conditions. I hadn’t seen any prior notifications about fire weather this week, but apple weather does show a red flag warning now.
By most measures the weather should be fantastic for a run and was planning to visit. I’m frustrated that they’re closing, but would have been more frustrating to find out upon getting there tomorrow. This one is weather related and may possibly be justified, but I’m personally annoyed by the long term closures for construction all of last year and nearly all of this year.

Parents, what hospital did you go to? I saw a few folks mention El Camino in MV and had a really positive experience. I thought it was a little far from San Mateo / Foster City, or is that a reasonable distance to drive while in labor? It’s my first pregnancy :).
Anyone deliver at Stanford Health in Palo Alto?
It’s my friend’s birthday today, any good ideas for what to do today?
He doesn’t want to watch a movie or go out to eat, and bowling is too expensive ($60 per hour later in the day). He likes adventure and horror
Everything I could find online is in SF or Oakland.
What’s the best way to land a job for the county if I don’t have much experience? I’m looking for an entry-level position to build my skills and move up. My background mainly involves working with animals
Hi! My boyfriend and I are looking for a 1 bedroom apartment around San Mateo/Burlingame/Millbrae area. Our top priorities are Safety Cleanliness Parking (we have 2 cars) Our budget is 3k please drop your recommendations below!
Hi all, any recommendations for car body shop for a Toyota in the area? Also willing to travel outside of local area if the place is good.
Hey Y’all, we wanted to introduce ourselves and also make us available to answer questions on Measure T!
Mitch is a local realtor hailing from Wisconsin, and is vice chair of gov affairs for the county board of realtors. He does a ton of volunteering with the Elks and our Veterans community, in particular with providing homes to unhoused veterans.
Annie is a mom of two, works full time running operations and finance at a software company and writes a Tuesday column with the Daily Journal. She spends her time volunteering to support education, affordable housing, and working parents (and doesn’t watch tv so is very bad at trivia).
Pic is with us and Rob Newsom Jr. volunteering at the Arts & Culture fair last month talking to folks about Measure T.
We are proud to support Measure T as community volunteers, and hope you will join us in saying YES at the ballots!
Measure T is the final piece to being able to execute the General Plan 2040, which meets ur state-mandated housing goals.
Measure T:
supports the creation of more affordable housing inventory than we can under current 33 year old zoning
applies smart city design to enable more density where it doesn’t force those residents to drive their cars
generates up to $15M in additional revenues for the city annually
does not create any new taxes
Happy to answer any questions you might have heading into these final days before your chance to vote ends!
Why is monte diablo or Tilton ave are grade separated? And why not 3rd/4th/5th streets that are way more busier due to downtown traffic. Who decides which project gets funding for grade separation
I am pissed... someone stole my measure T sign. If you read my past comment history, I have a suspect in mind. I guess I should be glad it lasted as long as it did.
I posted on nextdoor, but I thought I would also post here in case I can convince anyone else to vote yes on T (although I know most of you are already doing so)
Here is my post from nextdoor:
Someone stole the Measure T sign from my yard. I don't understand—why would anyone be so against Measure T that they are willing to resort to petty crime?
Don’t be swayed by fearmongering. Measure T doesn’t mean we’ll have skyscrapers or an influx of tall buildings. It simply allows the city council to CONSIDER replacing places like Draegers with a 6- or 8-story apartment building with 20 smaller units, rather than a 4-story building with 10 or so larger units (like what was built to replace Trags). We already have a few taller apartments like this, and they are fine. The city council is not going to approve anything that does not align with the fabric/character of the community.
It is better for society and the future to have more housing. I want people with regular jobs to be able to afford to live here. I don't want a dystopia where the "haves" live in one town and all the workers have to live far away.
For that to happen, we need to build more housing. I'm sick of seeing San Mateo on the lists for housing unaffordability and NIMBYism. It’s embarrassing.
Voting no on Measure T means no one will be able to build a 5-story building or a building with small apartments/dorms for any reason anywhere in San Mateo—including around Hillsdale Mall and the College of San Mateo. This leaves no room for exceptions and significantly hampers our community's ability to grow and evolve.
For those concerned about infrastructure, keep in mind that Measure T merely permits taller, denser buildings. The city council can reject proposals if the infrastructure isn’t adequate, or they can approve them only alongside necessary infrastructure improvements. Let’s trust that the city council we elected will make sensible decisions.
Also, it is extremely unlikely that property values of single-family homes will be affected, as no new houses are being constructed.
Back to my sign... I guess some landlord is so concerned about keeping rent high that they are willing to commit a crime. Also, there are so many illegal signs along El Camino. It is ridiculous that the No on T people have resorted to such despicable tactics while the Yes campaign won't even remove illegally placed signs due to fear of repercussions.
Please do the right thing for our society and community—vote yes on Measure T.
Hi! I have family coming to town this weekend. My grandma is old and she will be joining us. She can’t walk for long periods but is mentally very active and enjoys being out and about, provided it’s not a physical activity (dinner or the movies are good examples of what she can do).
Does anyone have any recommendations for things I could do with her? It can be as far south as San Jose or as far north as SF. Museums aren’t necessarily out of the question provided they have wheelchairs or some sort of mobility assistance on site.
Does anyone here walk/run by the Lagoon? I'm just wondering if anyone has ever heard a buzzing noise , a bit before the East Hillsdale Bridge on the foster city side. ( https://imgur.com/a/ei1JZ6l)
I always wonder what it is, and it seems everytime i or any other person approaches this bend, the buzzing emits, idk if its to deter geese/duck but its annoying sound.
I didn't see any news about this but earlier this month (Oct 11th), FEMA updates the flooding zones for North Central and North Shoreview thanks to the major leevee project.
https://www.cityofsanmateo.org/1796/North-Shoreview-Flood-Improvement-Projec
Flood insurance is now optional due to reduced risk of flooding. This is great news all around, even if people keep their flood insurance, less chance of major flood wiping out a major portion of our city.
