I just watched the HBO movie The Enemy Within. It wasn't bad, and Sam Waterston was good in it.

It's a remake of Seven Days in May, updated a little for the modern era. Sam plays the US President, a dove type who refuses to increase the military budget by an absurd amount. He's about to veto this 30% budget increase (sheer lunacy, and I'm in favour of a well-funded military -- but the US is already on another planet for funding) and so in response and to prevent this veto he's about to be deposed by what would essentially be a military coup with the appearance of constitutionally backed democratic process.

I liked how he played up the accent while in a cabinet meeting and let it subside a bit when he was just talking to his chief of staff (ably played by Dana Delaney). And the hero of the story was a colonel played by Forest Whitaker, who had the presence and intensity to do a great job pulling off that role. Sam and Forest and Dana all played their characters as smart and powerful individuals, so it made for an interesting bit of conflict when they didn't initially trust each other or their judgement.

All in all a pretty decent movie.
