Shop in Forestville?

Someone was telling me about a hidden shop in Forestville. It has a large wizard statue and an art car parked outside. Can anyone tell me the name of this store? Thanks!

Lost stuffed animal in the river.

he looked like this when new

I have searched in the Russian River near Monte Rio, where the stuffed animal got lost. Since I could not find the stuffed animal, I put up flyers, however no one responded. I am looking for my specific stuffed animal, not a replacement that looks the same. If anyone is able to find him please comment on this post.

Is it too cold to float Russian River this weekend?

I was hoping to float this weekend for my birthday (Steelhead to Sunset Beach), but following the heat wave, it looks like temps are dropping. The forecast for Saturday (7/27) is a high of 75 degrees and a low of 50 degrees.

Based on your experience, is it too cold to float on the river with these conditions? I've only been to the river 5 years ago when it was 90+ degrees, so I'm not sure what to expect with cooler weather.

Any advice or experiences would be helpful!

Floating from Alexander Valley Bridge to Memorial Bridge?

Just discovered this sub due to some cross posts about the PD article on Hacienda Beach (great info, as I'm supposed to be in the area camping soon, and that was one of the rest spots I had in mind...)

I'm up in Cloverdale, so we've been trying to hit up the lake and the river through the heat wave over the past few weeks, and when I posted some photos, a family friend mentioned they used to love floating from Alexander Valley Bridge to Memorial Bridge. Looking at Google Maps, it seems like it could be an amazing section to float for a bunch of folks for quite a few hours.

Some older info I found online mentioned people just parking on the shoulder near the Alexander Valley Bridge, but also that a nearby campsite allowed day parking. I drove out to check it out, and it seems there are now boulders along the shoulder, and no parking signs every 50ft or so, on Alexander Valley Road near the bridge, and the campsite notes no day passes/public parking on a board out front.

I explored a bit more and went down W Soda Rock Lane, and while there were No Parking signs along the entirety, we eventually came across a dozen or so vehicles parked along the road, next to the spot closest to the river, with a seemingly short little climb down to a beach and access to the water. I asked a couple that were sitting in their car if they ever have any issues with tickets or anything, or if anybody ever bothers them, and they indicated that no, they'd never had any issues.

Does anybody have any recent experience of going to that spot recently? Is it a bit of gamble with getting a ticket, or is it pretty much just left alone by enforcement? Additionally, any experience with actually doing that float from bridge to bridge? We recently went up to Comminsky Station Road and did a section of that and had a blast, but there's definitely some rough spots where it's either shallow or the water is moving quite fast into a bunch of bushes/trees. I don't mind that TOO much if I've got a bunch of folks with me, but I'd hate to have a great day out turn bad due to some sketchy spots along the way.

Buying a house on the river - bad idea?

My husband and I considering a move to Guerneville/ monte rio area. Is buying a house on the river/ beneath the flood line a terrible idea?

I'm a bit worried about flood and fire insurance, and the likelihood of needing to use it. But it's also our dream to be right on the river.

Any insights would be much appreciated!

Anyone want a well-functioning gas stove?

I have a gas stove/oven that works great, but I'm buying an electric one. I want to get rid of the gas one without just throwing it away. It has 4 burners and an oven. It is about 20" W x 38" H x 25" D. I've had 2 minor problems with it: it's very easy for food to fall into the wells around the burners when cooking; and the pilot light on the left side goes out pretty easily. Fortunately there's a safety. There's no safety on the oven pilot. Apart from these things it's a good machine!

You can have it for free as long as you come pick it up at my house in Guerneville. First person to set up a time with me can have it. I'm generally free Sundays, Tuesdays, and most evenings.

*Should be available starting in 1 week.

Any places to study/work remotely in the Russian River?

Hey, y'all! While I'd much rather be floating down the river relaxing, alas, I'm a remote English teacher and need to find a place to videoconference for a couple of hours. Somewhere with wifi, some seating, plugs, and open till 6. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Floating Russian River and Alcohol

Noted from the park website that alcohol is not allowed on any of the beaches (Steelhead, Sunset, Mom's). However the website also says to drink lots of water if alcohol is consumed.

  1. Is alcohol allowed on the river itself?
  2. Do rangers also enforce the river or just the beaches?

Of course, this is all drinking in moderation and responsibly, all while staying hydrated too. And of course, leave no trace.

Floating Russian River Saturday 7/22

A group of us are floating the russian river this weekend, how realistic is it that we'll float from steelhead to sunset in 3 hours? I went a couple of years ago and we had to tie our tubes to a tree because we weren't going anywhere.

Also any advice is helpful! We're taking a shuttle bus from San Francisco.

r/russianriver is going private indefinitely

r/russianriver will be going private very soon in protest of the recent changes to reddit's API pricing model.

The intent of these changes is very clearly to eliminate the community-oriented aspect of reddit, and they are succeeding in that. Most of reddit's best, most generous users are fleeing the site.

I do not expect anything much to ever happen on this subreddit now; I personally plan to decrease my reddit usage to near-zero. If you are interested in taking over control of the subreddit, please PM me ( u/neurochild ) and we can chat. How fast is the river current right now? Is the rainfall from this spring making it flow any faster than last summer?

I live about an hour away from Healdsburg and I want to take a tubing trip soon! Does anyone live nearby and know if it’s doable to tube from Steelhead to Sunset beaches at the moment? Last year around this time, it was so slow the wind blew us the opposite direction of the current lol. Thanks in advance!

Awesome video series: How to climate-plan in Sonoma County

Hey everybody, since many of us are feeling a lot of climate whiplash and fatigue from the last month/year, I thought it'd be helpful to share a few resources I came across recently about how to plan for a changed climate.

Dr. Emily Schoerning is a science educator focused on bringing high-quality planning tools to the public so we can all be ready for the future. In particular, she has done a ton of videos about climate forecasts for 2050 across the whole US. The videos are very region-specific, such that it's very clear what exactly what these forecasts mean for you and your communities. They are accessible for everyone no matter your science background, and they're deeply pertinent to all our lives.

Good information and conscious planning are the antidotes to climate anxiety and defeatism. Enjoy and share widely!

BANG BANG BANG BANG all year long

Is anybody else sick of hearing those bangs and booms echoing up the valley all year long?

That's the Russian River Sportsmen's Club in Duncan's Mills. They have a skeet-shooting range right next to the bridge. I'm way up river from there and can still hear them (they were going constantly for like 2 hours today) and it is so irritating!! I can't imagine what it's like to be in Duncan's Mills. I just want to enjoy the peace of the valley on a Sunday morning but no, some jagweeds want to pollute the river and make a bunch of noise. I don't understand how it's even legal for them to be such a nuisance.

/rant, thanks for reading, hope everyone's enjoying drying out a bit.

It's winter on the River!

...and that means that flooding danger is real.

If you're anywhere near water (river, streams, Laguna), make sure you have an emergency plan including people to contact and reliable sources of information about evacuations and emergency services.

Here's NOAA's river level predictor (this URL goes to the gauge near Guerneville, scroll to find the one nearest you)—bookmark it and check it often. https://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=mtr&gage=guec1 Know the flood stages. Also know how quickly the river can rise: it rose 5 ft in 12 hours on Saturday, predicted 11 ft in 12 hours on Thursday morning!

Stay safe. Post here if we can help with anything. ❤️
