Two men. Two journeys. A single destination, a century apart. The Road to the Purple Onion follows the paths of Billy Delaney, former child star, and Emmett Stuart, long-distance runner, set against the backdrop of the First Annual International Trans-Continental Footrace of 1928, and how faith and fate bring them together.

Hello! We are a group of students at the University of Oklahoma. (Boomer Sooner!) We are conducting an interest survey for the 2026 Route 66 Centennial Celebration that will be held in Bethany, OK! In addition to celebrating this history, we also want to create awareness for the community of Bethany, OK. This survey will help us gather information so that we can address how to market these things in the best way. Thank you all so much!
I am planning a motorcycle trip this May from Indianapolis to California. What are the hotel/ motel recommendations if any?
Hello,
I'm thinking of buying an annual pass for our future trip.
From what I understand, the official .gov site can't send to Europe, or at least they block registration if you don't choose a state and I can't checkout.
I came across https://shop.usparkpass.com/ which seems to deliver anywhere in the world. Is this website leggit ? Are there others ?
-- (edit : I will not buy on usparkpass, even if it's legit, because yes they send to Europe, but there are 30€ fees for shipping...) --
Or if not, is it easier to buy the pass when we arrive ?
-- (edit : we will do that) --
I would prefer a physical one, for souvenir.
Thanks
Start, or end, your centennial celebration Route 66 trip at the Santa Monica Pier, April 30, 2026, 5pm. That was the date that the telegram was sent, declaring the creation of Route 66. No other itinerary is specified, that is all up to you. Feel free to download and share this flyer.
What are your top 5 attractions/diners/hotels/experiences on R66?
Is your city or state celebrating anything Route 66 for the centennial in 2026?
Edit: to clarify assuming your city is along 66
Message me! Thanks!
Anywhere along the route! Old school preferred. Thank you!
I’ve heard the trip can be quite dangerous. Should I stay armed for the trip? Is their certain areas to avoid or things to watch out for?
Doing Route 66 summer 2025 and route 50 back (starting in MA). To save money should I get the america the beautiful pass?
Me after 10 hours…
Hey all! We plan to travel with our adult kids to Vegas for my son's 21st birthday! we will be driving there and flying home. We have 6 days to get to Vegas and definitely want to have time at the Grand Canyon. Any suggestions on stops/how far to travel in a day would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Thinking about doing Route 66 next year with my girlfriend, I’ve been wanting to do this for years. I guess some important questions I have are
Would it be cheaper to camp/sleep in my vehicle, I would only realistically stay in maybe a few cheaper hotels an maybe 2-3 (famous hotels) I enjoy camping a lot so I think I would have a better time finding campsites or sleeping in my vehicle. Only using the cheap hotels for showers, laundry etc.
Flights/car rentals, I guess this is a two part question. I’m in California far up north, would it be cheaper to start in California with the car rental or flying to Chicago am starting there in a rental, I’ve heard it’s cheaper to start in California? Second part would it be dumb to start in California an end in Chicago an than just driving back the quickest route back, I planned on 14 days for the initial trip.
These are some of my first important questions.
