I am not sure if a Romansh Discord server exists. It just seems like I can't find one online. Please let me know if there is one. If not, I just have an idea of having a Romansh Discord server where people can come together and talk. I think it could be great to have an online community where you can chat in Romansh. It would also be greatly helpful to people who are trying to learn it.

So, the idea is having an online community where:

1. Romansh speakers and of course non-Romansh speakers can come together to converse
2. the Romansh language presence on the internet can be fostered and hence comes the normalisation of its usage
3. resources in Romansh and to learn Romansh can be posted
4. members all help each other out

I would like to hear what you guys think of it. If none exists, I would be interested in helping to create a server, given that helping hands from Romansh speakers could be provided. With my limited knowledge of Romansh, I could only do so much hahah

For those who are not familiar with Discord:

It is an app where you can join "servers" which are basically like online chat groups in this context where you can have different chat categories within a group. So, for example, you can have a chat category for "hobbies", another for "history", etc. You can also have voice/video chats on a server. I personally have seen all of these features being used very creatively and conveniently for language learning and preservation.

Here's a link to a quizlet class y'all can use to learn a bit of romansh vocab. You can search for the dialect you want to learn. Rumantsch Grischun, Sursilvan, Sutsilvan, Vallader or Puter. This class is used by the Cantonal School of Grisons (BKS). I'm not sure if outsiders can enter the class but I'd hope so, good luck!

I'm a Uni student in America and one of my classes requires that we get in contact with someone who speaks a language we don't know as to understand the language's cultural significance and so forth. (I'm still trying to understand what the assignment is asking of me, apologies.) When looking at the official languages of Switzerland, Romansh caught my interest, especially as someone who is attempting to learn French and Italian. I was just wondering if anyone who spoke / is in the culture of Romansh would be interesting in doing a video chat one, or two times in the next two months to chat/answer some questions about the language?

I have never really cared about my Swiss ancestry or thought about it. However, I have started getting into languages and that made me think about it, and I would like to connect to my ancestry. I only have one family member within my country who speaks it, and I have never formerly met them, and they are very old. Are there any useable resources to learn it? Are there any online groups just to talk in it to get better? Also, how similar is it to Italian? Does learning Italian make you understand a bit of Romansh, and later on, learn Romansh?

Allegra! I would like ask a question for you: What is the Romance language that native Romansh speakers undestand the most? How is the intelligibility with Friulian and Ladin?
