Attending 2025 Ceremony…

Hey all - have wanted to attend the induction ceremony the last few years but just haven’t been able to make it work.

Next year is in Los Angeles, right? When would they announce actual date and when would tickets usually go on sale?

Interesting question:

Who do you think the presenters for any future RRHOF inductees will be?

Here's mine for example:

Joy Division/New Order inducted by Danny Brown

Coldplay inducted by Ed Sheeran

OutKast inducted by Run the Jewels

Diana Ross inducted by Janet Jackson

The White Stripes inducted by Julian Casablancas

Iron Maiden inducted by Rob Halford or Lady Gaga

I don’t think the 2024 class will be an outlier for this instance

I feel like 2024 will be the start of the Hall will started to induct at least 70s and 80s Rock acts that people have felt being long snubbed

They will still induct Hip Hop and contemporary Pop and R&B acts of course but they will hand an olive branch to those folks who think all those melodic rock acts should be put in long ago

From Eddie Trunk.

Ngl, this is why the Hall should mostly focus on those who are performing at stadiums & arenas while heading major festivals. They also should focus more on artists who came after 1980 since almost every act from earlier decades have now ceased to exist!

What country music acts do you see eventually in the Hall after the recent Dolly, Willie (and Jimmy) inductions.

We’ve had three years of country (or country adjacent acts in Jimmy Buffett’s case) into the hall. What country music (or country adjacent) artists do you see getting into the Hall in the recent future?

My guesses from most to least likely:

• Kris Kristofferson - feels prime for Musical Excellence as a songwriter even if he doesn’t make the main ballot.

• Merle Haggard - have noticed he has a lot of support between the old (Bernie Taupin) and new guard (Phoebe Bridgers) recently. Can see the Buffet voters going for him.

• Waylon Jennings - if Kristofferson gets in then you know there’s going to a serious discussion trying to get the only non-inducted member of The Highwayman into the Hall

• Emmylou Harris - maybe Jennings isn’t because I’m a little stumped at how Harris hasn’t been in the conversation more considering both of her Trio members (Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton) and has a close rock connection in her backstory (being discovered by Gram Parsons)

• The Chicks - very surprise they haven’t been more in the discussion, has any act this century imbued the rock and roll spirit more than these women. They aren’t getting into the CHOF anytime soon (or ever) due to industry politics so the RHOF can make quite the statement with their induction. The issue I can think of them being off putting to causal ticket buyers in Cleveland.

• Shania Twain - similar to The Chicks, she shook up Nashville, inspired a generation, has been cementing her legacy for nearly decade now and likely won’t be considered for the CHOF because of politics. Ironically, unlike the Chicks, she would likely be a draw to the Cleveland concert goers.

Get Over Rock Hall Name

Just a little rant. But every year it annoys me how people continue to complain about the rock hall inductees. They’ve done this since the very first induction class. The rock hall has always leaned more towards the “spirit” of rock & roll, and not the actual genre. Even though it’s heavily catered towards Rock music, if it was actually based off the “rock & roll” genre they wouldn’t induct any acts past the 50s or 60s.

It seems like they only named it the Rock Hall because of how huge it was during the 80s. I mean that was the peak for rock, at least so far. But they’ve always been about popular acts as well. They knew catering to one genre would be limiting and would make them so much money. They would be like the rock museum in Seattle. I don’t mind it, but it’s starting to feel not as inclusive since they keep centering themselves around Rock.

Also the fans need quit taking out their frustrations on the artists that are nominated as well as their genre. It’s literally not their fault. A lot of the comments are borderline racist, so not that surprising.

Which 2024 performer/presenter gets a boast for a 2025 nomination?

In the recent tradition of Sheryl Crow (2022-23) and Peter Frampton (2023-24), which of the guest performers and/or presenters from this years ceremony do you think got the biggest boast to help them for a possible 2025 nomination and/or induction?

Biggest snub from each decade

Who, in your opinion, are the biggest subs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I'll go first.

50s - Screamin' Jay Hawkins

60s - The Monkees

70s - Kansas

80s - Iron Maiden

90s - Soundgarden

Ceremony is 50/50

I watched the ceremony last night & have very mixed thoughts on this:

  1. The inductions of Ozzy Osbourne, Kool & The Gang, A Tribe Called Quest & Mary J. Blige were top notch with excellent set lists by Blige & Kool while tribute performances of Ozzy & Tribe were pretty stellar.

  2. Foreigner's performance is just WTF, like it doesn't help that Demi Lovato, Kelly Clarkson, Sammy Hagar were there joining them. Heck their induction is pretty much a joke to begin with.

  3. The speeches from honorees were way too long especially Peter Frampton.

  4. No presenters for Musical Influence honorees & Norman Whitfield with video packages. Very underwhelmed by it.

  5. No all star jam even though DMB closed the show!

Overall, not a bad show yet it's pretty lackluster given it's a very populist class after all.

Hall ceremony was great but

The Hall ceremony was great but I am not a fan of them just doing video and interview packages for some of the inductees like John Mayall,Big Mama Thornton,Norman Whitfield,Alexis Kroner and Suzanne De Pass

They couldn’t get someone to induct them and give them a history lesson on the said inductees?

I know MC5 got that type of induction but they had a Tom Morello induction speech and Suzanne De Pass got to speech and accept the award

Last time around they got Jimmy Page to induct Link Wray and he got to preform so it’s not like they can’t do that for any of the Early Influences inductees

RRHOF 2025

Earlier this year, the Cleveland based Rock & Roll Hall of Fame had announced it's class of 2024 into the hallowed institution. A mix list of artists stemming from R&B/Soul to Heavy Metal/Classic Rock to Contemporary Pop etc. It's also one of those classes where it becomes more populist & quantify which is something the Hall isn't there for when it comes to recognition. Then came the ceremony & aside from incredible inductions from few artists, the show was very dull!

For the purists/fanatics who are still complaining about "non rock" acts being inducted & demanding the name change of the museum, get used to the fact that the term "rock & roll" isn't about style & genre. It's about recognizing spirit, diversity, attitude, pop culture, evolution & inclusiveness. After all that's what the term is based on. If you only honor those who were only pure rock with loud guitars & pounding drums, then you'll gonna end up with a very small list.

The objectivity point of the Hall is to honor artists, songwriters, producers & other professionals who changed the entire course of rock & roll history with levels of influence, innovation & originality. It's never intended to be about how much albums & tickets you sold nor how many hit songs you have on the charts. When you checked the entire list of inductees since the first ceremony, then it's always been that way.

With everything said, we'll be looking at who's gonna be on the list for 2025 in which would be the biggest bang yet. There's three things that's gonna happen at the point: It will be the 40th anniversary of induction ceremonies, the Hall would have an extension to the museum & I'll be 30 years since the place opened. So I figured the foundation & nominating committee would do something major in regards of it.

Without further ado, here's my predictions on who would make the cut in 2025. The list would be broken up by three categories: Artists who would be first timers, those who are making a return & others who would end up being in side categories.

First timers:

Bjork - A recent induction of Kate Bush helped other quirky artists' chances for RRHOF consideration & Bjork is among them. Giving the fact there's less non UK & US acts in the Hall, it can be her time even though it might take her few more nominations before she gets voted in.

Coldplay - Even though they're seen as a joke nowadays, the impact Coldplay has on popular music remains at large which is something to write home about. With the 40th RRHOF anniversary coming up & 25 years since their studio debut Parachutes, very possible that these lads would become honorees on their 1st nod.

Daft Punk - A lack of presentation foŕ electronic in the Hall is something the foundation should focus on. It's pioneers Kraftwerk went through multiple nominations before getting inducted as Musical Influencers & this is just icing on a cake. Anyway, Daft Punk would become the next act in the genre to be inducted even though it might take few attempts in the votes.

De La Soul - With ATCQ finally received their accolade, the lane of hip hop groups are beginning to take action once more. Their contemporaries De La Soul might be the next one on the ballot now since they appeared at the recent show & I don't expect them waltzing right in if they ever get their 1st shot.

Lauryn Hill - She only had one album in her solo discography, yet it's among the most acclaimed records in the last few decades. I expect her to have few nominations under her belt before we go further.

Billy Idol - Currently, the Hall is on the 80's trend ever since MTV's John Sykes took over the leading chairman. The recent inductions of new wave artists are becoming more well known & Billy Idol hasn't gotten a single nomination. Appearance at this year's show would certainly made him an FYN honoree.

OutKast - It's a high chance OutKast would be FYN inductees with Big Boi's appearance at the 2023 ceremony, Tribe's overdue honor & Stankonia's 25th anniversary. It might culminate a reunion.

Diana Ross - Tina Turner, Carole King & Stevie Nicks were the first three women to receive the "multiple inductee" award & Dionne Warwick getting a backdoor induction. It's now Ross' turn to shine giving her successful solo career.

Smashing Pumpkins - I'll expect Smashing Pumpkins to take over Soundgarden's place on the list next year given the latter appearing on a ballot every few years since 2020. The former definitely have a chance, yet we'll see how the votes handle it.

Returning picks:

Mariah Carey - I wasn't surely shocked when R&B superstar Mariah Carey had her first nomination nor when she got passed over. I'll expect her to be back next year, even though it might not be different.

Iron Maiden - It's a matter of time for these metal stalwarts to finally get their call. With Judas Priest & Ozzy Osbourne in, the likelihood of Iron Maiden is more clearer than what I anticipated.

Joy Division/New Order - Innovators & leading figures of post punk & new wave, Joy Division/New Order were nominated for induction back last year even though they're eligible for a long time. Only their 1st try, maybe 2025 would be their time since it took The Cure & Depeche Mode a few nominations to get inducted. Plus there wouldn't be two aforementioned bands if it weren't for the influence of JD/NO.

Lenny Kravitz - There's no doubt Lenny Kravitz would come back sooner given his celebrity status. Whether he gets voted in or not is a different story.

Cyndi Lauper - 2023 was her 1st nomination, with Pat Benatar being inducted after two nominations I could possibly see Lauper going through the same route. Adding that she appeared on the Museum ad during the ceremony would make it more solid!

Oasis - Originally, I thought the lads of Oasis would have an off year after receiving their 1st ever nod. That was the case until August when they announced their comeback tour & I thought in order to conceive it, give them their 2nd try & subsequent induction.

The Replacements - A recent 2nd nomination of Jane's Addiction proved that any band or artist can make a return after a long hiatus. Not appearing on the list over 10 years now, The Mats would definitely take their place yet don't expect them to get voted in right away.

Thin Lizzy - Another returning pick, Thin Lizzy are well known for their dual guitar attack in which inspired countless hard & metal acts including Def Leppard, Alice in Chains & others. It's pretty wild they only been nominated once & with RATM & Link Wray being inducted, expect more POC rock acts including TL to appear on future ballots.

Warren Zevon - I'll say give Warren Zevon few more nominations before he becomes one of the artists who got backdoored.

Side category honorees: John Coltrane, New York Dolls, Devo, Kris Krisofferson, Fela Kuti, Estelle Axton, Ed Sullivan

I expect it to be another free-for-all since there's no guarantees. Oh well, will it be another ballot based on sentimentality, emotion & fandom or will it be on seismic impact being caused in music history. Won't find out until late January/early February. So stay tuned!

Why Cher had no business in The Hall

Why it took Cher so long to get inducted and why she should not have been:

i’m sure the constant back & forth of her long periods of acting, then periods of singing was causing the Hall to choose other women to honor instead…. Plus…A lot of her stuff is kind of forgettable !!!! The stuff post Sonny—dated garbage….I think Cyndi Lauper deserved it before Cher and I FULLY support Madonna getting in the first year she was eligible.

Believing that being a white, female background singer on Motown records isn’t RRHF worthy. Being a background singer for Phil Spector also is not groundbreaking . Believing that being 1/2 of a variety show act that had some hits via being a popular TV show isn’t groundbreaking for The Hall. Despite the 3 or 4 Sonny & Cher tunes being hits, there’s only a few years of music i ever heard on radio w her… 1988-94 and then maybe 1998…. and I kind of think her karaoke records (that is what they indeed are) of ABBA really diminished her legacy, likely holding the honor off year after year. That's a "fire your manager situation".....I also wouldn’t be surprised if anyone of importance took issue w “Believe”s auto-tune trailblazing —which essentially sucked the magic and soul out of radio pop music for at least the next 3 decades (projecting if not even longr than 3 decades) and passed on Cher getting in each and every time someone dared to mention her name to The Hall.

I honestly think the loooooong delay is well deserved and to Hell w Cher completely! There’s about 20 other women I would’ve rather have put in instead.
