I already renewed to keep my riverknoll double for next year. However is it possible for me to still try to get a riverknoll single for next year, and if I did is there a penalty for having to cancel my double renewal or anything like that? Thanks.
Hello fellow RIT students/colleagues. I am writing you from RIT Croatia, I would really appreciate if you could take your time and read this post. I am currently second year (with two subjects from my first year), my first semester started bad, I withdrew two courses and failed one. I was put on my first academic probation in the second semester and everything started great, I was achieving greats that I had two, and then somewhere in February my life just went downhill I started being so depressed (I think that I have problems with my mental health from 2020. ever since I experienced someone close to me die), but at that specific time in 2024. I also had same problem, at that time my member of family didn’t die yet, but due to their situation I knew it was just matter of time, and it did happen in April, before April and after that my whole world just collided, I just didn’t feel like doing anything and of course living in Croatia where mental health just doesn’t exist and it’s something you make up when you want some spotlight I just didn’t speak to anyone about my problems, and of course it brought me to fail classes again! My college send me an email where explains that if I don’t get my gpa up (2,0), I will be put to academic suspension (however I did saw that there is something called deferred suspension (I would have online classes at home and go with easier programs). So fast forward to my first meeting with my advisor, we made plan for my academic probation, and for most courses I’ll be able to get the grade I need, maybe even higher, however there is that one course that I already withdrew and started bad with it again. (Financial accounting) I knew how hard it was and that I need to work on it, but I just couldn’t make myself to do something, and I did my first exam really bad, so I told myself I should do better in second one. But for some reason I didn’t study at all, and I don’t have any explanation for why I did not do it, I am just a lazy pig who doesn’t think about problems until they are to big, and it’s scarred about facing truth so I just lie and lie until I am in such a huge hole that it’s impossible for me to get out of it (referring to the part where I was telling my parents that everything is good and I am keeping it in place, and telling my advisor that I am doing good in my courses). Today before exam I went to calculate what would my term GPA be if I withdrew acc and pass other courses with amazing grades and it would be like 1,9 which is not enough and I know what waits me but I’m not mentally prepared for that I am too weak. I do think I need to take a pause from everything I am just mad at myself I didn’t do it before, and I don’t know how to explain it to my Balkan parents, and I feel so embarrassed about everything. I need your help some advices, anything!!
I’ve been at RIT since July and have been finding it a bit challenging to make friends on campus. When I came to the U.S., I was really excited about meeting new people, but it’s been harder than I expected. I’ve tried joining a few clubs, but I didn’t quite feel welcomed. If anyone would like to be friends, feel free to reach out via chat—I’d really appreciate it!
I'm a second year commuter and I've not had much luck with finding other students who share similar hobbies and generally get along with.
I'm not very outgoing (especially in person), and although I get along with everyone in my classes, I haven't found anyone I really "click with". My only friend so far was a buddy from high-school who dropped out after a year (lol). He recently got a job working the night shift, so most nights when we would game or whatever, I am now alone.
I'm pretty sure that I don't suck, so I'm assuming I probably just haven't tried hard enough to actually find and build some more friendships.
My main hobbies are gaming and music production, but I'm into all sorts of stuff. I used to be on the RIT Counter-Strike team, but left it, as it was taking up a lot of my time and I didn't particularly enjoy playing. I also joined hoping to find someone who also enjoyed playing but didn't click with anyone unfortunately.
I don't really care about the specific hobby, I'm mainly just looking for someone to game and shoot the shit with. My only real requirements are being kinda funny and fun to talk to (mainly just being good at making conversation). I know that saying "I'm funny" is kinda egotistical, but I do believe myself to be a pretty funny person, and if I can tell a joke that makes someone laugh, and someone makes me laugh, then that's all I'm really looking for. I guess if you are reading this post and this sounds like you (or a group you're in), then message me or something (don't really know how reddit works).
I don't know of there exists a record of all the RIT (official and non-official) discords or groups, so that's why I'm making this post. If you have any specific recommendations, please let me know!
It would fulfill a requirement for me and would fit well in my schedule, but I haven't been able to find a syllabus or even any more details about it. The course description says it covers "use and application of scientific computing packages to explore methodologies (graphical, numerical, and symbolic) to study problems arising in undergraduate courses in science, engineering and mathematics." Does anyone know what scientific computing packages are used e.g. Matlab/Python/R/something else? Do you need a science/engineering background for this class to be useful and/or make sense? Thanks!
I’m interested in starting a business and I think a great location for it would be park point. But I don’t even know if I’m allowed to? So any direction that can be provided would be really helpful!
It has only been few months of me learning how to code and I would say that GCIS 123 assignments are very difficult, most of the times I have no idea what I’m doing. Is it because I just learned how to code?
Anybody else having issues as of late with their key card locks. The lock for our appartment and bedrooms will reject all of our cards or will do nothing for 30+ seconds then after I’ve already put the keycard back in my wallet light up green.
The screenshots would just show what's in the Enrollment Information tab under Class Information for various classes on SIS. All of this information is publicly available on RIT's website, except for the lecture number. Should that part be censored?
The reason I'm asking is because there are a lot of classes with very interesting names (Nerfology, Xtreme Theory, etc.) and I'd like to share a little video tribute to them that I made.
I heard that some of the apartments at Riverknoll have been getting furnished since last semester. Are they still being furnished. I've been thinking of moving to Riverknoll next fall but the main thing keeping me away from moving is that I have to furnish the rooms myself.
dose rit do adhd diagnoses
I heard it’s closing?
Hello everybody, I just applied to rit on the last date for early action. But after i submitted my common app I realized that i forgot to assign my recommenders. As such I wanted to know if the lors and teacher evaluation will be received by the rit.
Does anyone know of a way to get to or close to Interstate Drive in Avon excluding Uber and having my own vehicle. I probably will have to use Uber but I'm hoping to find a cheaper way to get over there.
Anyone recommend any good professors for GCIS 124?
I’m going to visit Rochester on 11/8-11/11 for the open house. I am enrolling NTID/RIT for spring semester. I need someone who can pick me up from airport, take me to Airbnb only 4 mins from RIT. I’d like to know if anyone can show me around for few days and if possible, visit Niagara Falls, great eats, place that’s a must visit in Rochester area. Your schedule permitting of course and I’d be more than happy to cover for gas including dropping me off airport on 11/11. I hope to have wondrous visit. I’d like to have connections, build friendships along the way. Many thanks.
Has anyone taken college algebra with Jonathan Kivel? I don't see him on rate my professors. Are there any great professors to look out for?
I am an international student thinking to transfer to RIT in 2026, which major should I choose, all of these seems good for me(already checked the major requirements from each website) Cs Comp math Ee option AI I'm ok to take chemistry and physics 2 for ee if I choose that All 3 seems good for me, but which might get an edge for getting co op and internship? And what might be the main difference other than major requirements (such as career service for each major or lecturers in each major, which might be better)
I’m a first year finishing up Math 171, looking to take this class in the spring (CET major going for audio option). Will i be able to slide this class in next semester as a GE? Or will i have to wait for future years tech electives to take it. Thanks!
Hear ye, hear ye, for the Fourth Chapter of the great Realm of Pyre draws upon us! Grim word comes from the mysterious Darklands. Ships of Shand flee from their shores, besieged by the demon-worshipping zealots of Yunqa. Fleeing North, they seek aid from the nations isolated from the South by an impassable mountain range. But not all is at rest within the realm whereupon the refugees seek solace. Last year's rampage of the 100-foot-tall demonic Behemoth split the north asunder. Pyre - the esteemed beacon of the North - felt felt its paragon pedestal crack. Levithmirra - the guardians of the Heaven Gate - saw its lands turned into a slaughterhouse whereupon the corpses of its fallen soldiers were at once cooked to well done. Innumerable thousands died in the firebeast's wake. Innumerable thousands more died from starvation when the Chaos Moon eclipsed the sun for many months, announcing the reign of terror that would follow. The Dwarves lost half their men to starvation. And the Holy Empire of Condaeduril, the self-proclaimed land of reverence and cultural renaissance, the Northern prime naval power, where Shand ships found their berth, has seen its authority questioned by Anduril's act of rebellion. Still, conflict lurks deep within the North. So will they answer Shand's call for help?
Or will the diplomatically isolationist nations of the South band together to conquer this evermore present threat? Shall the Amazons venture into the forlorn night of the Southwilds alone or with their Kuwiran neighbors in hand? Will the joined tribes of Shand face this demonic threat alone or will someone answer their call in this deaf, deaf world?
Join us on November 9th and make your stand in the Realm of Pyre! Take control of a nation together with your merry band of 2-3 teammates and establish your nation's position in the grand strategy. Roleplay and maneuver your way through the politics of the Realm to ensure your nation's survival and prosperity. (edited

When: November 9th, 1:00-9:00 pm EST
Where: Simone Center, Rochester New York
Who: Everyone! if you don't go to RIT, you can still come! Just as long as you're good with playing a boardgame for 8-10 hours on your feet.
Please make sure that if you sign up, that you can commit to actually coming. We've had people sign up and half of them not come in to the game before, it can definitely affect the experience, since missing team members is never fun and sometimes entire teams can be missing, which can suck.
I know someone else just did this, but I am working on moving back to my home in Rochester (From Oklahoma), and attend RIT for the biomedical sciences program. I was accepted for transfer for the spring. Are there any alumni of the program who would want to talk about their experience in the program and help me apply for the alumni scholarship?
Hi, i am an international student that might transfer to rit as bs comp math(or cs but that has mandatory co op and i am interested in math too), but the cost is too high without scholarship
What might be the scholarship i might get, and as international student, do i get financial aid?(some say yes some say no, very confusing, and do i get to fill up fafsa as international?)
I'm expecting myself above 3.5 cgpa, hopefully 3.6+ if possible
if the cost can go from 78k per year to below 45k(33k minimum), its more than enough i belive(most international students consider 40k total as cheap lol, except texas universities since oos waiver exist)
Some people are saying internationals get 20k max as scholarship + financial aid
I'm applying to RIT early decision for the 3DDD program, and I'm really trying to reduce the cost as much as possible. Is there any alumni here that would be willing to apply me for the scholarship? It would be great if you can DM me if you can! Sorry if this post seems needy.
For the past few weeks, I’ve been working on a ROAR Day campaign to support RIT’s Open Programs office - OPEN@RIT. ROAR Day officially begins on Oct 31 at noon (eastern) and, as a grad student at RIT, I’d love to ask both current students and alumni to support and help reshare my campaign.
This campaign isn’t about big donations – it’s about turnout. I want to show RIT that their 15-year history of supporting open source is immensely valuable and that the university should give it the support it deserves. I believe a true commitment to open work can help make it easier for students to help RIT become a better institution, while also helping RIT fulfill its goals of leading future generations of students as they navigate an increasingly open access world.
Over the past several years, I have been doing all that I can to support this open work from the student perspective as a graduate student at RIT and now I need your help to lend more voices to this issue and to tell RIT that this matters.
To kick off the campaign, I will be giving $5 to the campaign for each of the first 100 people who also support the campaign because RIT's first-in-the-nation Open Source Minor and other Open Work Programs have been immensely helpful to me. This essentially means that, if you give the minimum amount, your contribution will be doubled. If you would like to give to the campaign you can use my link.
More examples of open work happening on campus, as well as more information about the campaign is available in this information document. You can also reach out to me via DM
Thanks for considering my campaign and contributing or resharing if Open Source is important to you. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to discuss this more or have feedback on the campaign - I’m happy to share more information about my work to promote openness at RIT or the campaign if there are questions. Let’s show RIT how they can achieve both their own goals and support us in achieving ours with the power of open work
Does anyone have any experience with training a version of yolov8 on a custom dataset. I’m trying to use a modified yolov8 code on Visual Studio Code. I’ve tried youtube, professors, and the discord community (Ultralytics) itself. Therefore, I’m reaching out to the wider community to see if anyone would be willing to help with custom training a custom model of yolov8. The dataset I’m utilizing is quite large 16,000 images. I have access to the computer engineering lab at RIT.
Please dm me if you can help! Thank you have a good day!
