For all things Richard Ayoade

In recent news, the book of the same name by Bill Bryson will have an animated TV adaptation. Here, Richard Ayoade is the narrator! Isn't that great news?
In this 2012 sci-fi comedy, four men form a neighborhood watch, only to discover murderous aliens! It's up to them to stop the extraterrestrials from invading Earth. Ayoade plays Jamarcus, a reserved and finely dressed Brit. He may be adorable, but he's one of Ayoade's crudest and action-packed roles. Come to think of it, Ayoade should film more action scenes.
If you have seen "The Watch," what are your thoughts about it?
He will be paired with Mel Giedroyc
The other pairings are: Kevin Bridges and Mo Gilligan; and Katherine Ryan and Rosie Jones
I’m really excited for Kevin too!
What are your favourite pairings on BFQ of all time? (Besides Richard and Noel obviously)
This came out months ago. I wanted to watch it, but I didn’t want to give Intelligence Squared my credit card info. I found the first half of the talk on YouTube for anyone interested.
I’m surprised I’m only coming across this video now considering it was uploaded on instagram early this month.
I’ve yet to see a good chunk of his body of work but it seems to me the vast majority of it, save for The Souvenir (and excellent work there), has been comical roles with little variation which I think is a bit of a shame though perhaps that’s what he enjoys most.
Are there other roles where he really plays something completely different and rather serious?
I can't accept that he might be unwoke. I've always assumed from everything in his background, from his clique to his persona, that he was pretty right-on, but in his off-standish absurdist fashion, avoids stating it outloud. What is he thinking endorsing this book? What his ⁸th dimensional chess angle?
"What happens when we've long admired someone for their talent and then find out that despite the fact they excel at darts, they're socially conservative? How can we go on enjoying the way a person throws miniature arrows at some circular cork now that we diverge politically?
And what if we find that people who make art can be terrible, perhaps even criminal? How do we get back the time we wasted enjoying their work before we knew that we wouldn't have enjoyed it if we'd known? Can we not get some kind of certification of sanctity before we allow ourselves to be moved? Because to be moved by something made by someone who has done something bad would mean that a bad person possesses the capacity to connect to us; that they haven't, somehow, forfeited their humanity."
- Richard Ayoade, Ayoade on Top
After a universally praised premiere at the Venice Film Festival, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar holds a 95% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
In this first of four Roald Dahl stories adapted by Wes Anderson, Richard plays two roles, one as Dr. Marshall who first investigates Imdad Khan's claim to see without his eyes, and the other as the yogi who teaches Khan how to do it.
No news yet whether Richard has roles in the other three stories, although the Rupert Friend interview suggests he might.
The four short films premiere on Netflix September 27 to 30th.
My soul left my body seeing so many copies in HMV so, of course, I had to buy one.
