An expansive and intersectional way of viewing reproductive healthcare, through the lens of economic justice, environmental justice, racial justice, and more.

What is Reproductive Justice?

by Loretta Ross

Reproductive Justice is the complete physical, mental, spiritual, political, social, and economic well-being of women and girls, based on the full achievement and protection of women's human rights. This definition as outlined by Asian Communities for Reproductive Justice (ACRJ) offers a new perspective on reproductive issues advocacy, pointing out that for Indigenous women and women of color it is important to fight equally for (1) the right to have a child; (2) the right not to have a child; and (3) the right to parent the children we have, as well as to control our birthing options, such as midwifery. We also fight for the necessary enabling conditions to realize these rights. This is in contrast to the singular focus on abortion by the pro-choice movement that excludes other social justice movements.

The Reproductive Justice framework analyzes how the ability of any woman to determine her own reproductive destiny is linked directly to the conditions in her community-and these conditions are not just a matter of individual choice and access. Reproductive Justice addresses the social reality of inequality, specifically, the inequality of opportunities that we have to control our reproductive destiny. Moving beyond a demand for privacy and respect for individual decision making to include the social supports necessary for our individual decisions to be optimally realized, this framework also includes obligations from our government for protecting women's human rights. Our options for making choices have to be safe, affordable and accessible, three minimal cornerstones of government support for all individual life decisions.

Please take my survey on abortion access in Texas during COVID! Compensated opportunity for those interested in an interview on their experience.

Howdy!

My name is Elsa (she/her/ella) and I’m a Master’s candidate for Applied Anthropology at the University of North Texas. As an activist for reproductive justice, my thesis project centers around abortion care/access during COVID-19 in Texas (along with the other implications of anti-abortion policies). I’ve partnered with the Lilith Fund to do research investigating just that!

I'm looking for folks who are 18+ years old and who sought out abortion care during COVID-19 to participate in my research study! There will be monetary compensation for those who qualify for the study for a 45-60min interview. You can choose to do your interview in Spanish or English!

Please take my survey to see if you qualify!

My (and others) experience with contraceptive care is :(

I've had so many frustrating moments around my sexual reproductive health and finally i realized this space is not designed with our needs and bodies in mind. I would love to change this and nudge people in the industry and our system to do something. I also realized it's not only my frustration but apparently many many women have that same experience. I would love for this community here to amplify and highlight our voices so we can change this space once and for all

Environmental Justice - Dissertation Survey

Hi, there! I'm Emily, a final year student at Nottingham Trent University conducting research around environmental justice. This survey seeks to understand experiences and opinions, from people of varying intersectionalities, on matters such as climate change, sustainability and interactions with nature. Please could you spare a few minutes of your time to help contribute to my research!

~ Requesting Your Valued Opinions ~

Full disclosure, I am a man.

Have an idea.

Pay women NOT to have children.

I have a system where qualified women could obtain life--changing wealth IF they chose to have a hysterectomy.

This idea has triggered a lot of flack.

Most people believe that the idea, in its core, is racist.

In my heart, I know that this system gives wealth and power to women.

In addition, this system has nothing to do with race.

I would greatly appreciate your opinion of this system

The system is called Universal Basic Outcome.

Many of the details of this conception can be found at that sub & on my personal comment page. But I am requesting ANY observations & questions you may have.

I thank you in advance.

Activism and spirituality? Looking for personal stories.

I am investigating the connection between spirituality and activism. I am interested in how peoples' activism is driven by spiritual or religious beliefs. Of course, I suspect that for many or most political/social justice/climate justice/human rights/animal rights etc. activists, religion and/or spirituality will play no role at all and some may even hate the idea of it.

But I am interested in whether or not there are those who do feel like their spiritual beliefs guide them to fight for something that has affects more than just their own life. If so, I'd love to hear your personal story or experience with this connection. Does your connection with a higher power (however you define it) guide your activism or play some role in it? If so, please share! Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

LADIES! our reproductive rights are at stake (even with Title X). let’s take control while we can.

I recently got my IUD inserted in mid-october because of this election (really wish i was wrong about that prediction). I urge everyone to look into and research IUDs (https://www.plannedparenthood.org/learn/birth-control/iud). yes it hurt for about 10 seconds (but I wasn't on my period, which drs recommend cuz your vag is naturally lubricated and larger). i also which i had taken some advil before hand- woops. but once i took some (and grabbed my hot water bottle, i was fine. i was crampy for about a day after the insertion. and voila- i don't have to think about taking the pill on time, getting my period (except for occasional spotting for the next 6 months), the hormones and emotional roller-coaster.

If its the right method of family planning for you, GO GET IT BEFORE THE YEAR ENDS! ✨

IUDs last 3-6 yrs- yup the whole next presidency and it’s FREE. 5 years of family planning for free (or a small copay). if you have any questions- PLZ ASK ME- im brutally honest when it comes to my vagina and reproductive health #ovarygang 🍒 #reproductive rights#reproductive health#family planning#birth control#vagina#vaginas#feminism#feminist

[X-post r/prochoice] In 2 weeks our abortion clinic will shut down. A pro-choice group is now raising money to keep it open.

Hi, I live in New Brunswick, Canada. In our capital the Mongentaler abortion clinic is shutting down because it finally ran out of money and the government won't fund it (elections this September!). This now results in any woman needing an abortion to travel outside the province to get one.
Reproductive Justice New Brunswick is hoping to raise money to pay for the lease of the building and sustain the operation of the clinic.
