For me, my ear gravitates toward the works of Skillinjah. He has the best flow and style that I have heard from any of them.. He can touch a dancehall riddim better than most.
Look am a fan of slightly stupid soja fortunate youth Almost every reggae band under the sun but stick figure never stood out to me as music I would listen to normally would u guys still consider me a real reggae fan
First non mainstream reggae artist I heard, early 80s. https://youtu.be/6mmhYfpEXSM?si=qu5SgHmA5ILM6qX8
Thanks to Serious-Pollution897 for resurrecting this gem which goes hand in hand with my Ruts post. https://youtu.be/otacja5LDJY?si=N70smIgMw2zBbSEf
Following a conversation on r/roots reggae about Misty in Roots and the historic, brutal police racism in the UK.. punk and reggae had become something of a team by the late 70s. This is the Ruts' tribute to Clarence Baker, another innocent victim of that violent prejudice. https://youtu.be/4z_7oEG4Gvg?si=BaiTPenUDvsHZKF3
Idk if chopper is the right word in this context, but like songs where they’re rapping/singing super fast. A couple of my favs are “give dem some way” by Damian Marley and “ninja mi ninja” by ninjaman.
i use to use EBreggae back in the day had all the newest riddims on 7" are there any stores still specializing in dancehall records or are artist not putting out singles on vinyl anymore due to digital age
I’ve been jammin out to Reggae for 30+ yrs now and know all the greats and been to many Bob Marley festivals, concerts, etc. But Lacksley Castell was a musician I haven’t come across until recently. A few months back. And I cannot believe how much his music freaking jams. The beats, lyrics and his voice are so unbelievable. So sad he passed at a very young age. But if you get a chance, search him up and jam out. You won’t be disappointed. RIP Lacksley Castell. Ty for your music!
Man this whole album goes so hard. And maybe contender for one of the best covers ever?
Exploring Jamaican music and its branches, fruits, leaves, and roots every third Thursday from 4-6pm ET on greatcircles.net radio!
This was a special rescheduled broadcast with my friend Matt MacLeod. Strictly vinyl for two hours of prime listening. Leave a comment with your favorite tune or ask me for an ID on anything you don’t know.
Enjoy your week folks!
