hey you. do you write music? do you use reason to do so? just have questions about it? bored and want to hear redditors' original music? stop on in! some of that's here!
Posts involving written music must feature Reason as a matter of technical relevance - please do not spam/self promote your artistry. Self promotion is subject to removal.
Post links to your .RNS/.RPS/.reason files and REX loops, discuss rack science, share CV routing tips, crowdsource your next Combi patch; if it's related to Reason or its sister software, talk about it here. Unless it's piracy (including asking for exports made from tracks saved in demo versions). Don't do that here.

I have a '21 MacBook Pro M1 connected to a Sceptre C35 monitor through a thunderbolt to DisplayPort cable. I've also used thunderbolt to HDMI connector to HDMI cable and got the same result before. Using Reason 13.
This happens only intermittently, but only when Reason is running from what I've noticed. It'll flicker Reason the windows, and the desktop background. If I 3-finger swipe to a different desktop, the flicker goes away immediately on that desktop. You can see it easily on this high contrast Atoms plugin. I have not tried this from an older laptop (running Reason 8) yet.
I've altered different display settings on the Monitor and nothing changes. I'm ready to contact Sceptre, however, the fact that this only seems to happen within Reason is bizarre.
It’s a bit of a drag to have to click the audio region, hover over to the transpose area, and then manually click up and down. Not a huge deal, but it takes you out the flow a bit
Just really got my mind to understand synthesis but want to find a vst or way to view my waveforms in real Time as I adjust. I understand this should be done primarily by ear, but I want something that I can learn by seeing as well. TIA
I have 75 credits and I am wondering what to get... any suggestions?
I have ReSpire, Expanse, Predator, Chord Sequencer, Bassline Generator...
I love Animoog; I bought the original in Jan. 2012 for .99, and now have the upgraded Z complete with VST access. When I load it in Reason, it plays beautifully and records the MIDI notes in the roll and all. But, when I save a session and reload, it will not play. The MIDI is still there, but the VST is silent. I've tried saving the preset but it's caused Reason to crash several times when loading. I've tried deleting and reinstalling a few times.
Is anyone else having issues using this VST and saving it in their songs for future sessions? I'm to the point where I feel like I will need to just record it into an audio track like I did back in the day, playing my iPhone app into my audio interface with a 3.5mm cable and playing/recording real time, which sucked.
SOLVED: I updated from Mac OS 14.6.1 to the newest 15.1.1 and it works perfectly now.
Hey Reasoners, I hadn't used Reason in a while... just upgraded from 9 to 13 and am looking to sequence some acoustic drums for rockabilly type stuff. I want it to be natural sounding. Is there a good extension or refill I should look into? I almost bought the Reason Drum Kit but there might be something newer and better? Any advice is welcome! Although I am looking for something easy to use that doesn't require a lot of time and mad skill!
I'm trying to find a reliable way to normalise CV signals and a 'CV Compressor' would be a great help, anyone know of one? I basically just wanna drive a cv signal till it regularly hits a threshold I can manually adjust.
Many thanks
Following a wish from a fellow Reasoner, i'm sharing a project file and process for creating dark ambient atmospheres.
This setup was devised with expressive performance in mind and includes various means to produce versatile sounds whilst maintaining efficient use of resources (I don't like wasting CPU).
There will no doubt be many ways of replicating this setup, but this is the one that stuck for me.
This template has been scaled down so it's easier to understand what's happening, but can be vastle expanded (My bespoke version has 16 FX combinators vs this projects 2).
I've left comments on the video but i'll include them here as well. Please check the requirements and happy Reasoning.

So I just downloaded the Companion installer for the one month trial but when I try to open it nothing happens.
I already restarted my PC (win10 x64) and ran it as administrator but still nothing. According to task manager it's working but there's no window or error whatsoever. When I try to run it again it says it's already running.
Does anybody have a clue on how to fix this?

Anyone out there use a Roli seaboard with Reason? What do you think? I’m looking for a fun new controller and I love tactile playing like aftertouch and “5D” surfaces like the KMI QuNeo. Wondering how Roli & Reason work together. Thanks!
I was wondering why some of my wave forms looked a bit behind after recording audio files where latency compensation worked perfectly. Figured out that after a couple takes the latency got worse. Saving and restarting the program fixed this. Then after maybe 15 minutes of recording the latency creeped back up. Recording to a click and I can see my new audio waveforms line back up with the grid after restart so it’s not a performance issue. Is there a reason the computer (new HP pro book with plenty of ram and processing power) would start to fall behind, or why latency comp would randomly turn off? Thanks

Thank you to everyone who submitted tracks for the November update of the Made with Reason playlist!
I've randomized the order of submissions. Sorry to those who ended up at the end of the list but that's what the "random gods" decided. And anyway, you should probably listen on shuffle as there's no meaningful editorial order to the playlist.
🔊Listen to the playlist now (and don't forget to like/follow/save it!).
And let everyone know what your favorite track is in the comments. No cheating with mentioning your own track!
This goes without saying, but if you like any of the songs on the playlist, remember to add them to your own playlists, share, etc. I'm sure every indie artist on the list would appreciate it.
All of my reason songs I didn’t use the sequencer. All of the synths and pads were played by the matrix. My drums were all redrum. I just used automation to change the drums and fills (along with muting different drums) and used automation to mute/solo synths and change bass lines. The sequencer was almost all automation tracks. I felt that was easier to use than the sequencer most of all being able to use the redrum to switch between patterns. I think that’s the reason I never got great with ableton or cubase. Does anyone do this or you all using sequencer?
SOLVED! Hey reasoners,
I'm doing finishing touches on a project and wanted to let a good friend mix it.
I have a Filter and Industrializer as some Send&Returns on the master as part of a build up. When I bounce the mixer channels or the "master section", these effects are Not printed along to the wavs. The master inserts are NOT bypassed, as I can clearly hear the effects when I play the part back inside Reason.
Please help!
I searched this and I get very mixed results. I have 7.1 now. I am not making any music to be commercially released so paying a subscription for something I might use once a week doesn’t make sense. I’ve read that all you can get is the current version (which is what I’m running into) and I’ve read they make it hard to find but you can still get the older version. Anyone know for sure? VST support is the main thing I want. Thanks
I make metal with symphonic and choir elements and love the versatility of Reason. Recording at different tempos on the same project, slice edit, pitch edit - all the way through the effects chain is phenomenal. Wiring up the audio devices however I want is cool as hell and with some genre specific VSTs like Superior Drummer and Ampenstein I’ve gotten a great workflow down.
There are only two gripes I have about the program and that is the lack of support for VST3 in version 10 (I hear it’s been solved in later versions) and… the stock EQs frankly suck. You have a curve on the screen that you should be able to manipulate any way you want and Reason makes it impossible. The shelves on the hi pass filters are my main issue right now because it seems there is no way to force a hard cut at a certain frequency without a gentle slope down to 0 DB that acts as a forced low range EQ cut. The only way I’ve found around this is the stock effect that has a hard shelf at 30hz but I want one that’s adjustable. Am I missing something? Is there any way to force a hard cutoff below say 50hz? 73 hz (drop D guitar’s lowest note)?
Historically, does Reason Studios start their sales on Black Friday or Cyber Monday, or some other time?
Hoping to upgrade from Reason 5 on my old 2011 Macbook Pro to Reason 13 on a 2018 i7 Macbook Pro with 16gb of RAM (Intel Macs do meet the minimum requirements). Does anyone here have experience with this configuration and if does their i7 MBP works fine? My projects are typically around 24 tracks with maybe a drum loop and 2-4 other VI's; otherwise all live instruments. No third party plugins used--I'm pretty simple.
Do y'all think this will be work fine or will I experience a ton of sluggishness?
Hey yall.. a tale as old as time.. I create and master the track in reason 12 the best I know how, use a loudness meter and everything.. Export it.. and It is soooo quiet compared to other people's tracks. Also seems very flat comparatively. even though it sounds nice in reason. I guess I am asking for tips and such to maximize the track for export. Thanks!
EDIT: Wanted to thank everybody for their advice and insight! Really Appreciate it. I ended up buying Izotope Ozone which certainly does the trick.
I always just used the synths in reason. I used to have an old Korg MS2000 (?) that I never could figure out how to get the sound in Reason. I want to try to use this thing again. It doesn’t have USB. It’s midi in. MIDI will transmit the note data but where does the sound come from. I know I could connect it to an amp/receiver but the music would play through a separate speaker and not in Reason. Where am I missing a step….or is it even possible
I'm not sure I think this new browser is any better. The new thinking of just have it all in the User Library is fine and dandy, but trying to actually add existing locations I want to use to favourites is confusing.
I've got a folder on my MacBook in iCloud Drive/Documents/Daw and I'd like to have that as a favourite, but navigating through Reason browse is seeing iCloud Drive (Archive)/Documents/Daw... The content of which isn't up to date with what is in the folder I'm interested in.
Is this something to do with iCloud and browser and/or do I need to now move all my existing DAW structure across and dump it in User Library? There's stuff there that I'm using with Ableton and elsewhere, so I don't really appreciate that approach.

Any industrial heads here? 🙂
I don’t know how to do this lol. But as you guys may know a bunch of mixing vsts have features where they need a side chain input for frequency clashing. is there even a way?
Please look at the 'Odyssey In' audio track to the left. It has a big red box showing a high cpu usage because that's where all my audio is getting summed to from the fx combinators.
Now look at my DSP meter in the bottom right, it never goes above halfway. I can run up to 16 threads (i9 9900k, overclocked to 5GHz). If I have this set to the 'Default' threads setting it hover around 98% on the audio track and again about 50% on the DSP meter.
I only get a bit of audio drop out if I select a single thread setting, which shows a peaked DSP and <100% on the track.
I'm guessing I should just ignore the audio track reading but a second opinion would be welcome. Cheers.
