Sometimes I wish there was menu to go back straight to main screen without having to hit back arrow many times

Like when you go to inbox and view the context of comment of someone replied to you in a topic. Then you hit load all comments button to view all other new comments posted in the topic. Now if you want to go back to main screen you'll have to hit back several times. Would be nice if there was menu that lets you jump straight to main screen

I don't use (front, all, random and friends). Is it possible to that the favorite subs appear before these 4?

Edit: I was wrong. So yeah, an option would be good.

I think mostly no one uses those 4 things as frequently as their favorite subs. But of course I am just guessing so I might be wrong. In either case, an option would be good :)

Excited for the next update. Now literally a dozen friends of mine will use readit! :) :D

Can't wait to get a week through, hehe. Just wanted to share that you guys are doing an amazing job. I am pretty sure that readit will continue to be the best reddit client planet earth has!

PS: Can't wait to see Segoe back in action :D

Filtering your likes?

Is it possible to filter your likes to a certain subreddit? Like if I wanted to only view posts from /r/videos that I've upvoted? If not, could it be a feature that can be added? Thanks!

Changelog for the next update

As you all know, the app will be going free with the upcoming update (due out by next week sometime, not yet submitted until we polish it up a bit). With that said, here are some details on that.

How will ads work?

A banner will be displayed at the top of a post's content, but it will never overlap it. The ad will only be displayed every 10 links that you view so that we do not saturate the UI with advertisements. No where else in the app will host advertisements as it is now.

What if I purchased the app?

We store receipts on our server and when we identify that you have purchased the app, we will offer a "Free Upgrade" IAP that will remove the ads so that you never see them. This will be checked on app launch and when resuming the app. When you take this IAP, you will never again see the popup asking you to download it. It may take a few tries to get this to pop up, since our cloud service will be hammered when this update hits.

How do I get rid of ads?

Click the "X" button to close the ad, it will offer an "Ad Removal" IAP for purchase which is the same price as the app stands today.

Now onto the goodies.

##New Features/Additions:

  • Post entry animation is 3 times faster now when going directly to comments and doesn't open then play the comment animation, it opens immediately to comments now.
  • App is now free and ad-supported. No more trial limitations.
  • All fonts are now of the Segoe family and all of the UI has been updated to fit this font.
  • Post template has changed, smaller thumbnails are now used with a more compact view for both people with and without preview images.
  • Preview Images for GIFs
  • Default subreddits are now loaded based on the new API call by reddit when you are not logged in (instead of the top 50 subs)
  • Removed the old expander button for image previews. Press and hold on the thumbnail to preview it now.
  • Full light theme support (minus the subreddits list until we can figure out how to keep contrast there). All dialogs, etc are optimized back to light theme when it is selected as the app's theme
  • Preview images are now enabled by default for low memory devices
  • Default youtube video quality is set to 720p on new installs/settings resets
  • Post search filtering added - sort by relevance, comment count, hot, new, top, etc. Filter by time as well as sort, such as year, hour, month, day, etc. Restrict to current subreddit checkbox as well.
  • A New Post entry/exit parallax effect has been added.

##Bug fixes:

  • Fixed bug where appbar glitches out under subreddits list when you aren't logged in (showing text when unopened, etc.)
  • Fixed a bug where hitting the back button before a post animates in completely would cause the UI to blank out.
  • Subscribe/Unsubscribe option fixed in application bar when viewing a subreddit that you aren't subscribed to.
  • Settings should never reset again. We are 99.9% sure that we have Identified and fixed the issue with random resets. The background task could collide with the app running and write at the same time as the app, causing the settings file to zero out. It doesn't happen to accounts because the accounts file is not written to in the background task.
  • Sub of the Day will no longer be cutoff and will measure to the space provided regardless of length of name
  • Rising sort fixed
  • Fixed hitbox of comment count and vote indicator so that it is easier to vote and visit comments directly
  • Fixed bug with external links being misidentified as profiles
  • Fixed the reddit status indicator (red exclamation point) location
  • Fixed critical crash bug that has had a major impact on our crash statistics
  • Fixed a few link identification issues such as with youtube videos
  • Fixed bug with markdown links not processing correctly when it is an improperly formatted Url
  • Fixed double-byte character processing in the markdown renderer (such as Chinese, etc.)
  • Improved performance of post list in terms of jittery scrolling and memory usage
  • Other general bug fixes/performance improvements

##Other notes

  • I got in contact and am now the owner of /r/readit. This update will sub everyone to that subreddit since this is our main avenue of support. Sorry if you don't agree. Anyone subbed to /r/readitforwp will be unsubbed and subbed to the new sub automatically on app launch/login.
  • After this update, Readit will only receive bug fixes and small enhancements while we focus on Windows 10. We will give more details on that later, just know that a Universal app is coming to desktop/tablet/xbox and eventually Windows Phone (probably on the second release of the app, depending on user adoption, etc.)

Readit Incorrectly Handles non-Reddit URLs with /u/

This comment has a link to a site with /u/ in the URL, which prompts Readit to try to read the link as a Reddit username.

Just had settings reset on me again...

This bug keeps coming back to haunt me. I just started up Readit this morning fresh, and what do you know, lefty mode was disabled, clock was disabled, all my data settings were back to defaults...not a huge deal to redo these settings, but the devs should definitely know that this bug isn't gone like they've said it should be.

Is it possible to implement links such that they directly open in IE? So that one can use it's reader feature easily.

Sorry if I am asking too much. I love the app and you guys deserve more already. Just thought if it's easy to implement, would be nice to have :)

[Feature Request] Hiding read posts change

I love the feature where read posts are hidden on app load or refresh!!! However, if I read It on the website, and vote on it, Readit still shows me the post.

So, simply put, can the "show read posts" feature be changed or have option to hide posts with votes?

Thank you!!

Upvote/downvote text hitbox is too small.

The number of misclicks/mistaps I've had since "The Update" has increased tenfold (no exaggeration, possibly even more), and it's very irritating to have to keep backing out of the comments sections to continue my browsing.

Segoe vs. VAG Rounded

Hi,

as Caleb mentioned, we are considering about changing the font back to WP system font Segoe instead of the Reddit official font VAG Rounded.

You can see the difference it makes in this album.

I now encourage all of you to give some feedback about how you feel about this possible change, since this change would be permanent and there would not be options available.

ps. You are looking at experimental thumbnail image template.

[Announcement] About the upcoming update

Hello all,

I wanted to fill you guys in on our plans for Readit with the recent announcements of how easy it is for android and ios devs to put their apps in the windows store.

We will be making Readit free, with non-intrusive ads. Nothing over-the-top and nothing that will overtake the Readit browsing experience. The ads will only be tiny banners.

The fact of the matter is, we need to make Readit free so it displays on the store as FREE. It will not survive the impending 50 apps coming from other platforms (even though all of these apps have a "pro" version without ads, well mostly). With the influx of users that hopefully will be using Windows Phone after 10 is released, they will most likely migrate to the apps that they know best. Which are going to be android ports more than likely. We need to be able to attempt to compete with these apps.

What happens if I have already purchased the app?

Ahh, good question. We have tracked all of our purchases on the store. When you open the app it will offer a "Free Upgrade" to remove ads. If it doesn't work the first time, just lock/unlock your phone or background the app and pull it back up a couple times and give it a few seconds in-between.

The update probably won't be out for a week or two.

I have also been working with Peter on the font. We hopefully can go back to Segoe with this update.

What about Windows 10?

Well, to be honest, we are only going to make a windows 10 app for tablets/xbox. I ported it to Windows 10, but we will hold off to see how it fares with the other apps in the store before deciding on making a windows 10 phone version. So, for now, windows phone version of Readit will stay as a Silverlight app.

The tablet UI and Xbox UI will be highly optimized to each platform. UX and UI are the biggest selling points here, and we will guarantee that these apps will blow any other tablet/xbox app out of the water. No concern there. We will let you know when we get to this point. I have all of the code converted to windows 10, we will start writing the UI as soon as we are done with the next Readit update. We will always be pushing out performance improvements and bug fixing updates to the existing phone app.

Let me know below if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Caleb

Unable to install Readit

I bought readit a few weeks back. I have been using it everyday. Recently I had to reset my phone and reinstall all the apps. But I am not able to install readit. I get an error saying

"We're having trouble installing this app. If this is the first time that you've seen this message, go ahead and try again. If the app still won't install, go to your Phone Update Settings to make sure that your phone software is up to date."

I am on DP with the latest build.

I tried restaring, soft reset. Is there anything else I can do? All other apps have installed perfectly. Please help.

Edit: More info- The app downloads, but fails to install.

Edit 2 : I installed the app on my phone memory instead of SD Card. The app is working fine now. Thanks to /u/hundredeir

Inbox loop?

Everytime I resume or open the app at all it brings me to my inbox...is this part of some feature or a bug? I posted something recently that has been pulling in comments but not frequently.

Is readit no longer optimizing with readability or is there something wrong?

A couple of days ago, maybe more, all text links have been optimized differently, in an unpleasant, small font, web page.

I looked to see if there was something I could do in the settings to no avail. I also thought it was just the trial and when I purchased the full version it continued.

Can you help?

Bug/Crash (630 Dual-Sim)

So there's sometimes a bug where in swipe view there is suddenly no taskbar and you can't click on the comment count to open the comments - you can only swipe to the sides. If you press back one time, nothing happens. If you press back a second time, the app closes/crashes.

Android Reddit App Suggestions

I just bought a Galaxy S6 after having a Lumia 920 for almost 3 years. So far I can't find a single reddit app that comes close to being as good as Readit. I mostly just miss the swipe view.

So, anyone that made the switch in the opposite direction, what reddit app did you use on Android? Do you know of one that has swipe view?

What replaces "Hot"?

In the notes for 2.0.2.5, "Hot" was removed "because it was redundant". So what replaces it, as it is still my default sort option via the reddit website.

Bug/Crash I encountered with the new update, and the solution.

TL;DR: If your app is crashing on loading links or comments on the new update, reset your settings and re-set them the way you like them.

Sometime late last night, my phone updated Readit. On using the app this morning, I found that I could not open any links or even the comment threads on those links. The app simply crashed. I was about to post here about it, but tried messing with a few setting changes when I noticed I could not even load up the Comment settings. Decided to hit the Reset Settings button and start from scratch, and now it's all good.

My theory: I had comment order set to "hot" before the update, which no longer exists in this new version.

Just figured I'd post it up here in case it could help someone else.
