Rhythm and Alps festival - age demographic?

My lady(31) and I(37) are looking at attending Rhythm and Alps festival in Wanaka. We are doing a tour of the South Island and a camping festival sounds perfect for NY.

We are both young at heart, baby faced and really get into the whole festival/partying thing but are worried the festival will be dominated by 18–22-year-olds losing their minds.

Can someone, who has recently been, let me know what we can expect.

I know there’s also Twisted Frequency but given our itinerary it doesn’t work for us.

Time wasting suggests

Hello,

My friends are dropping me off in Queenstown for an afternoon flight this weekend, and I’d love to have one last fun activity or memorable experience before I go. I’m open to anything for the morning. They were initially interested in a distillery tour, but that won’t work with the timing. Since they’re locals and have done most touristy things, I’d appreciate any suggestions for fun activities or a nice breakfast.

Thank you in advance!

Looking to Reconnect with Someone Special: Can You Help Me Find Ruhanie (KIKI) Kulasekera?

Hi everyone, I am trying to reconnect with someone very special to me, Ruhanie (KIKI) Kulasekera. She is Sri Lankan, and we lost contact about 20 years ago. I would deeply appreciate the opportunity to speak with her again.

The last place I know she worked was at OPSM, Shop D05, Queenstown Central S/C, 19 Grant Road, Frankton, OTA, 9300, but I haven't had any luck reaching her through there. If anyone knows her or has any information, I would be incredibly grateful if you could help me get in touch.

Thank you so much for your kindness and help. ZAK

New years in Arrowtown?

As we are a little more on the mature/boring side, we are wanting to spend NY in Arrowtown to avoid the 'party' scene in downtown (ideally). Thinking a nice dinner and cocktail bar to bring in 2025. My question is whether there are NY fireworks in Arrowtown? Or can the ones over the lake be seen from Arrowtown?

Recommendations for 2 weeks in Queenstown

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Queenstown from the start to mid June. I’ve googled the recommendations and there are the obvious ones like a day tour to Milford Sound, snowboarding/skiing etc.

But would love some good food & bar recommendations! And any not so obvious or well known attractions. This is my first overseas trip so keen to make it a really good one!

Where to get a turkey?

Family visiting for American Thanksgiving at the end of November and looking for a turkey. Raeward is an option but quite expensive($160 for a 5kg bird). Is there anywhere else that might be more affordable?

Roy's Peak Hike

Hi guys!

Travelling to Qtown soon. Thinking about hiking Roy's Peak. Looks like it's roughly 6 hours total.

I'm fit (ish). Do mostly strength training, but don't usually do cardio much. Is this hike doable for a newly hiker? Or will it be a huge struggle?

Any tips? What to bring, clothes, etc. And also, what time do you recommend leaving for sunrise?

Thanks heaps:)

Call for people of Queenstown: Help with Scavenger Hunt

Hello, I have been doing a scavenger hunt for my boyfriend for the last 9 months, we both work in hospitals so it started by hiding clues around various wards and places, it has now escalated. The end prize of the scavenger hunt unfortunately came about before he worked through all the clues, so I have yet to come up with a second finale. We are just about to go on a trip to New Zealand (November), any Queenstown people able to help me come up with & hide a couple of clues around QT? Would happily pay you in a pint once I arrive :)

Best espresso martini?

Visiting this beautiful place right now. Went to a few bars yesterday but a the espresso martini recipes involve kahlua, baileys, or Frangelico and simple/demerera. Any recommendations for a place that use a coffee liquer?

Thanks!

EDIT: a coffee liquer other than Khalua

Fun things to do for birthday

My girlfriend turns 24 in November and we’ve been living in Queenstown for just over a month now. She’s not into the dare devil things and we’ve done the Earnslaw already. Does anyone have any suggestions of something fun we could do ?

Heading out for multi day tramp and my wife’s backpack zipper is broken and unable to close.

Understand worst case we can hire a new bag or buy a new one, but wondering if anyone knows of any shops that could repair it in queenstown? Appreciate any leads.

Booking hostels in advance in January?

Hi everyone, I’ll be doing a big trip around NZ by bike soon, I’m planning on being in Queestown in January after spending New Year’s Eve in Wanaka and visiting Mt Cook village. As I want to ride to Fjords too, can I improvise? Or will hostels be completely booked by that time.

After a lot of riding crossing NZ I’ll want to spend a bit more time around and hopefully meeting some people :)

Thanks!

Staying in Queenstown 3 days over NY with campervan - accomodation?

I'll be in Queenstown for 3 days: 29 Dec - 1 Jan with a campervan with 2 adults + a 5 year old.

I HAVE to leave the 1st, because I need to drop off the (self-contained) campervan in Christchurch the 2nd.

This has been an (expensive) last minute trip. But it seems that no holiday park is allowing us to check out on the 1st of Jan! Eep. So I could book something 29-31, but not the NYE night itself. Obviously I would like to have a nice night. We were hoping to see the fireworks and then turn in downtown.

Seems that I need some advise from locals. Where could I stay? Hotels start at 900 euros per night (haha). Should I go some place else? Is there free camping around and would that be a miserable NYE?

How about the DOC campsites like 12 Mile Delta. That says first come first serve, do you think we can rely on that? And what happens when we drive to down for the day, we don't loose our spot there right?

Thanks for any help! Was also looking at other places like Wanaka for nye, but most campsites are closed then which, living in Singapore, is mind blowing to take off on the most profitable day of the year :)

Any help is appreciated! Any locals renting their driveway for us to use? Or any alternative suggestions?

Celebration Cakes or Cupcakes

Hey NZ's,

I'm heading over to Queenstown for a celebration in January, I am wondering are there any cafes/bakeries where I can purchase a whole cake without needing to order prior (as I'm not sure what date we will want the cake)

Something like The Cheesecake shop... but I can't see one located in Queenstown.

I've tried to google, but no luck. Thank you! :D

Couples photographer

We're travelling to Queenstown for our 10th anniversary and are hoping to get some photos taken as we didnt have the budget for a photographer when we tied the knot.

We're hoping for some photos in 2-3 locations in December (13th or 14th) and have a budget of $700 for this.

NYE

I’m a young 60 y.o. traveling to Queenstown over New Year’s Eve and day. Will I find anything to do with people of my generation on NYE? I’ve heard there might be a young drugged vibe among locals and tourists. Nothing against that if true but not really my scene. Since I’m traveling solo I imagine I’ll end up at the lake for the music and fireworks. Will I meet anyone I could relate to?

Proposing to GF in Queenstown in November. Any recs?

Hi all, I am taking my girlfriend from Texas to New Zealand. I plan to propose to her on Friday, 11/22, and we should arrive in Queenstown in early afternoon. It will be the 3rd day of our trip which is perfect to pop the question.

I would like to propose to her that evening around and would like photographers to capture the moment. Ideally, somewhere we can be dressed nice and have a beautiful backdrop of scenery.

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. She would like to be dressed up.

TBH - I have never been, so it's been challenging to land on a plan and place as this is my first time asking this question to anyone, and haven't been able to travel to New Zealand before to scope out how/where I'd like to it.

Any advice for contacting local companies, or photographers, is much appreciated also!

Looking to hire kayaks for multiple days to explore the Fjords (Doubtful Sounds)

My friend and I are experienced kayakers that are looking to rent kayaks in the Manapouri / Te Anau region to explore some of the area's remote huts. Does anyone know of a place or own 2 large kayaks that they would be willing to rent out (around the 9th-13th of November)
