Hologram awareness of Leaper's surroundings

Was there ever an in-series explanation as to why a hologram that was tuned specifically into the leaper, and only the leaper could "see or hear" was able to see and hear individuals and things or explore the world the leaper had leapt into without the leaper being around? For example, when Al locked onto and followed Ms. Trafford in the Color of Truth episode, or Addison with Hannah during the fire in the reboot?

Or was this just a "suspend disbelief" thing.

I apologize if I sent multiple versions of this question- Had internet difficulties and not sure if the question was submitted.

End of season 1

Ok so I just started watching this series and got to the end of season 1. (Finished S2 ep1 but I got to thinking). When Ben>!goes back to 2018 and redoes the first date day, wouldn't Ben stay there? The future wouldn't be the same because Addison wouldn't be under any threat since Martinez dies so 2018 would've been where he stops, right?!<

Question about the original series.

Hey, fellow leapers. While we're still not too happy that the reboot of Quantum Leap has been cancelled, I am still hopeful it is not the end and it will find another home on a streamer or we'll at least get a movie finale like Timeless. But the thing is, this is not the first time the peacocksuckers at NBC has screwed us. We all know what happened back in 1993. Which brings me to my question.

When NBC ended the OG Quantum Leap, why didn't Donald Bellisario and Universal(which was separate from NBC at the time) look for another home for it? I'm sure they tried and it just didn't work out, but obviously there were outlets that could have saved it. I'm sure the fans also tried to help save the show, although it was much harder in the early Internet days. Remember that screeching dial up sound? Anyway, I think Fox, for example, could have swooped in and picked it up and paired with The X-Files, which debuted that year. Another possibility is the Sci-Fi Channel, which launched in 1992 and was jointly owned by Universal and Paramount until the latter dropped out in 1997, so it could have moved there. I know they did air reruns of it in the mid to late 90s(and are airing there now), so it would have made sense. The last possible outlet was syndication. First-run hour-long shows were still popular in syndication, such as Baywatch and both Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space 9, so that was also a possibility. The fandom was there, so I'm sure they tried to save Quantum Leap back then, as well as we are now, which is why I'm hopeful the new series will continue in some capacity.

I could run NBC better than the idiots running it now and I have some cool ideas for TV shows, but sadly, no one in Hollywood listens to 40-year old with Asperger's.

What watsonian and doylist reasons for why other that sam can see holographic companion

For you dont know above words Watsonian explanation looks at a story from the inside, as if the events and characters were real, while a Doylist explanation looks at it from the outside, considering the intentions and influences of the author. Why only these people:Animals, young children, mentally absent, drunks, psychics, people near death, people with similar brain waves, angels, other Leapers if they touch. Can see either sam/ben or holographic companion as themself what do you think

Now the series has ended, what is Ben's best female outfit?

I liked the hostess uniform and the Puritan girl outfit, but I think she looked pretty cute as Nadia Malik in the Family Treasure in the black dress.

Emmy Awards!

I hope that someone nominates this series for some Emmys. In particular, "Nomad" would be a great candidate for outstanding writing in a drama series. It is a perfect episode.

My other choice would be Caitlin Bassett for leading actress. She absolutely knocked it out of the park this season, portraying an incredibly complex emotional journey that often couldn't be verbalized.

What else is deserving of a nomination? There are so many good guest actors that have appeared.

What happens to the bloodlines Sam has ended? We're they suppose to die anyway

Sam has killed or indirectly gotten killed around 50 people during the series. I feel bad for the woman and dude that Sam handed his keys too not knowing someone had planted a bomb in his car thst in the orginal timeline killed him and his partner/ex-girlfriend.

Story opportunities you wish they would have touched on?

I was really looking forward to hearing Ziggy be able to speak again with Deborah Pratt's voice with Barbara Striesand's ego.

Even if we couldn't get Sam back home this time, It would have been great to have more stories connected to Sam such as whatever happened to his sister? Or his daughter being one of the engineers that helped create the technology for quantum leap.

What are some story lines that you wish they would have added to this tv series?

@quantumwriters: Thank you to the fans for your support. We loved telling these stories and are so sad to say goodbye. Just remember: we may not leap through time like Ben Song can, but we do still always have the power to change people’s lives for the better. Your viewership proved that much <3

Awkward Eternities

What if Addison had gone ahead and married Tom?

I think she still steps in the accelerator to take Ben's place. That would have been a very uncomfortable forever with him!

If Quantum Leap gets saved, where will it end up?

While we're all still reeling from NBC's cancellation of Quantum Leap(again), I'm still hopeful it'll find another home. Nowadays, we don't need a heritage network like NBC to air shows like this. To be honest, I don't think there's a place for it on them. Networks like NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox will probably have less shows that are genre specific and somewhat niche like sci-fi or fantasy and stick to shows with mass appeal like sitcoms, dramas, police procedural, game shows, reality competitions and live sports(the most watched show on TV is NBC's Sunday Night Football, BTW), which is one of just two things on the network I watch(Password is the other). I think the future for shows like Quantum Leap is streaming, which is I'm still hopeful it will find another home. It has worked before where fans intervened and saved a show after it is cancelled such as Community, Timeless, Manifest and Futurama to name a few. So it can happen again. It's definitely worth a shot.

What will you miss most?

I'm recording an "in memoriam" episode of my QL-focused podcast this week to say goodbye to the show we all loved/enjoyed/watched. I've talked about this sub pretty often on the show, and as we all settle into life without new episodes of QL, I wanted to see if any of you fine folks have any thoughts you'd be willing to share for the show. Any particularly fond memories? Anything you'll miss most?

Me? I think I'm most sorry that everyone realized what a damn STUD Ernie Hudson is after the finale aired.

Did the 2022 Quantum Leap need to be 25% different than the original series?

Like how the Star Trek reboot / prequel / whatever had to be 25% different due to licensing?

Is that why it changed so much?

I know people who worked on the show are on this sub, it would be great to know for sure.

So now we have to wait 20 more years....

Hopefully there will be ANOTHER reboot to give us a team of leapers to go out and save all 3 stranded leapers. Thanks NBC

Tom, you failed us!

I just finished watching season 2 of the new series and I’m bummed that Tom never managed to convince Washington (NBC, in our case) to keep Quantum Leap going…

From a slow start on season 1, with many inaccuracies to the original show and a tone/look similar to the bad 2008 Knight Rider revival, to a stronger continuation in the later episodes and especially in season 2. I feel like the show had just started standing on its own two legs when NBC, like they always do with their shows, decided to kill it 😞

But even though it sucks that the show is over I take solace in that last episode that Ben and Addison finally got to embrace and be with each other and I will just imagine that they keep leaping together through time as one force for good, never splitting up again always together to the end of time or their time. I can live with that 😊

What were your fave parts of the revival, despite the changes to the original? I really liked 3 things:

  1. That many of the past leaps of season 1 mirrored and connected with Ben’s life and internal trauma which helped heal his heart and memory.

  2. The two emotional educational episodes on the transgender community, which helped me further understand my trans friends (my only gripe would be that Ben and us mostly felt like a disconnected observer in those episodes, not getting to live and experience it first hand to learn from it like Sam and us did in the episode where Sam ended up in the shoes of an african american man in the racist south. Instead of being talked to, which the episodes did well too, we walked in it) - if this came off as insensitive I didn’t mean for that, I really did like those episodes 💙

  3. The season 2 storyline of Ben being connected through time with Hannah was a really fun emotional and unique idea, wish there had been more episodes about that and that Hannah would have showed up later in the present as a much older lady (probably around Magic’s age) saving and bringing Ben home as the new head of Quantum Leap - that was a theory I had before we saw her son in the present instead

Fan trailer/tribute: Intro from 2022 Quantum Leap, but in 1989 intro's style

Absolutely bummed QL 2022 was cancelled (crossing my fingers it gets picked up by another network!)

Coincidentally days before the news, I posted this "What if the 2022 series had a trailer like the original show--with the same Mike Post theme song, "years flying over old photos" mini montages, and many of the same beats and moments. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Enjoy!

Why after 2 seasons?

I’m British so maybe (probably) I’m clueless. But why cancel after 2 but not 1? In my mind it makes more sense after the 1st season to think “hmm ok this isn’t what we want, let’s pull the plug” rather than “ok it’s done well enough for 2 seasons (after we recommissioned a 2nd very early in the run) let’s just keep going and let them expand the universe”

Ugh

What would you have done differently?

As we go through the post mortem of Quantum Leap, I have a question.

What would you have done differently?

No wrong (sincere) answers. Let's hear your ideas!

RIP Quantum Leap.

Was the reboot doomed to fail without Scott Bakula?

I still haven't watched the reboot, because I was turned off by the fact Scott Bakula wasn't involved in the show. However, just from the low viewers counts that ended up leading to the cancellation, at least that's the reason I saw given in one article, I feel like I dodge in bullet in getting attached to a TV show.

For me personally, I wouldn't have expected Bakula to be a main cast member. Mostly because I think even a new show still needs to have its own characters to stand on. However, I think the biggest expectation was to at least see Sam Beckett, in my opinion.

Would having Bakula have some form of role have saved the show? Honestly, I don't know as I've said I haven't seen the reboot. But I'd think having him appear, maybe in say the first season finale, could've helped especially if there was a story line that led to it. At least maybe could've gotten some original Quantum Leap fans to be interested in the reboot.

Granted I could be extremely wrong on this opinion.

Can We Stop Posting that Ben and Addison Never Return Home?

I know it's a cute meme.

But this is a perfect ending.

At the beginning of the show, Addison wants to be the leaper and wants to be with Ben. She doesn't realize the tension between the two. By the end, she sees that tension and elects to leap to replace Ben, but not restart a relationship because she doesn't want him to live with a ghost, as she did. She's giving him up, out of love.

Ben is lost at the start of Season 2. He has no plausible plan to stop leaping anymore, which he never wanted to do in the first place, and there's no Addison to come home to. He is just drifting. But Hannah makes him realize that leaping is a gift.

It's only when Addison is ready to sacrifice for him that she gets everything -- to both be the leaper and to be with the man she loves. Ben has made peace with leaping, the one way he could truly be with his true love. As Hannah hints, they ARE home.

I am very sad that we are not going to spend more time with these two, and the adventures the gifted writers would have sent them on. But no later ending could possibly have the poetry of this one.

There may not be a more romantic plotline you could invest 20 hours to watch, and I hope in time more people appreciate it, and it lives forever in streaming.

‘Quantum Leap’ Canceled at NBC After Two Seasons

“Quantum Leap” has been canceled at NBC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed.

The show served as a followup to the 1989 show of the same name starring Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell. The revamped version starred Raymond Lee as physicist Dr. Ben Song, whose attempt to restart the Quantum Leap project pioneered by Dr. Sam Beckett leads to him being trapped in different people’s lives in the past just like Beckett. As he seeks to put right what once went wrong in those lives, he “leaps” to different lives while hoping that each leap will be the leap home.

The cast of the series also included Caitlin Bassett, Ernie Hudson, Mason Alexander Park, and Nanrisa Lee. Steven Lilien and Bryan Wynbrandt developed the series and served as executive producers alongside Martin Gero via Quinn’s House, Dean Georgaris, Deborah Pratt, Chris Grismer, and Alex Berger. Universal Television was the studio. Gero and Georgaris served as co-showrunners.

“Quantum Leap” originally debuted on NBC in September 2022. It was renewed for a second season in December of that year. Season 2 launched in October 2023, with the season finale airing in February. It will now serve as the series finale.

Most recently, NBC announced that it had renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: SVU” for the 2024-2025 season. A decision is still pending for “Law & Order: Organized Crime” starring Christopher Meloni. The freshman dramas “Found” and “The Irrational” were renewed for second seasons back in November.

Deadline first reported the cancellation news.

Just finished the OG show for the first time.

Hey all, Over the last few weeks i went with Sam and Al across space and time and was fairly happy with how it ended. I had had it spoiled to an extent a while back, i know "Sam never returned home", so was expecting some sadness at the end. But, in context, he kept leaping out of choice, because he wanted to keep putting things right. I then discovered the alternate ending with Al and Beth talking in his den, and how Al was going to leap himself to track down Sam.

I later read this leaked script that had Al leap to the "Al's Place" bar from the last episode, talk with God or Fate or Time and he tells him that Sam is in the future. Al convinces Al to send Al to the future, and Al leaps into a woman at a bar in a spacestation in the future. He gets chatted up by a guy and does an "oh boy", cut to credits. I like this ending as it hints to Al maybe learning what its like to be in the shoes of the women he usually objectifies, which is fun.

I have learned that there is other QL media, novels and comics, are there any that take the story forward after the shows finale, ie, a season 6 storyline? even a good fanfiction or something. I have watched the newer show as it was coming out, then the old one, so watched out of order :')
