I had a USB flash drive that I created using Rufus in Windows and that was working fine. Today I tried to recreate that USB flash drive, but using Kubuntu, without success.
Since Ubuntu recommends Etcher I thought that was a good tool and used that, but when I tried to boot the system it just didn't work. I also tried using Kubuntu's default "Startup Disk Creator", but here when I can't even select the ISO file to be "burned" to the USB flash drive (I mean, I can select the file, but that isn't added to the list).
Now I'm looking for a good way of creating that Puppy Linux USB flash drive. Which tools do you recommend? I searched a little but I couldn't find any unanimity.
Also, I searched a little but couldn't find a definitively answer - is it better to use ext3 or ext4? I found some people saying ext4 would not be so good for Puppy Linux.
Thanks!
Hi, I'm new to puppy Linux and I was thinking about using the Ubuntu+debian(jammypup) version, but I saw that the debian(bookworm pup) version has apt installed, does it have more packages/support or is there any major difference? Specifically I want to use tail scale but I also want to use it as a daily driver
Hi everyone, want to use PuppyOS on damned old Lenovo Thinkpad T520 (2013!) with 4 GB RAM, after trying a couple other distro's. Well i have heard alot of Puppy -and i guess that this truly seems to work the best (though not perfect) overall. Couple questions:
do you think that i need to create a swap-partion on the Lenovo Thinkpad T 520!? or do you think that i will need to work with zRAM or a swap-file!?
I've been using Swap-file across other distros for a while on my other systems. I like them, I know they can be controversial, so setting that aside please, a couple questions:
Do you think that i need to swith from hdd to SSD!? Do you think that i need to add RAM to the Notebook
thanks folks
Hi! I remember that in Windows it was possible to create an icloud sync folder with ftp or stuff like that… Any chance to make the same on puppy linux?
Hello, I am a new user of Puppy, I've been using Debian based distros for a while now, and I want to expand my experience on other Linux distros, I am looking at light weight distros such as Puppy.
I've seen that is quite a bit more complicated than the Debian based, since the installer is quite different, and as long as I've seen, Puppy is more for USB.
The thing is, I've been trying to do dual boot with Puppy with my Lenovo laptop, my main OS is Linux Mint. The thing is that I've done de bootable USB, and I install it in another partition, I go to the partition and I can see the folder of the Puppy installation. But when I try to update the Mint grub I can't get a Puppy entry.
I looked for this issue and I only get a software to achieve this but for dual booting with Windows.
Is there a way to get this working doing dual boot with Mint?
Is it worth trying this as dual boot? I mean, is it worth trying this or should I just keep trying Puppy booting on the USB?
Edit: Right now I have been trying to install fossapup, I might also try Debiandog.
