Sub-Reddit dedicated to sharing proto-metal bands and songs; and generally celebrating that sweet spot between classic rock and metal that hits me so good.
I've got some favorites - and so do you! I'm no audiophile - I basically made this as an vehicle for discovering bands and songs I've never heard of. So bring it on!

Josefus from Houston, Texas have been credited as "one of the first models for the blunt sound of Texas hard rock and heavy metal." They were also mentioned in an article in Classic Rock titled "The Lost Pioneers of Heavy Metal”
early doom 🤘. former member of Blue Cheer.
Who's heading out to see Danava and Deathchant THIS SATURDAY at Brick by Brick? Doors open at 7:30PM, see you there!
Or I wish I had discovered this earlier.
I've been slowly gravitating to proto-metal (which I used to call trippy metal), as I get in to my years. Don't get me wrong, I'm a metal head through and through - am seeing Blind Guardian this May. Been a lover of metal for the past 30+ years, am from Brazil (live in the US now) and have been to a ton of festivals and metal concerts.
But through bands like Kyuss, which I have been following since the 90s, to Uncle Acid, King Gizzard, Tanith, Wytch Hazel, Pelican, there are SO many good bands! What a great time for proto metal. Got into Albion recently, plus Elder, Baroness, etc. I'm devouring them and can't get enough. This makes me so happy!
The latest one that blew my mind was Tanith. Folks, please send some good stuff my way. Proto Metal is AWESOME!
Mid 70s banger
This and Futilists Lament’s opening riffs are fucking evil
UFO version of C’mon Everybody - undeniably loud and heavy
Slightly sped up but the same amazing track
