Who are the Protomen?
The Protomen are a Tennessee-based rock opera band producing songs heavily influenced by the Mega Man games. The songs have a plot following the events in a dystopian society set in the Mega Man universe.
What do they sound like?
Their sound differs between their albums, and often in between their albums. Some of their more popular songs are:
Light Up the Night
Unrest in the House of Light
The Hounds
What are they even saying? What's the story about?
The Lyrics Wiki has complete lyrics and liner notes.
When is Act III coming out?
We don't know, but they performed a song from Act III at PAX 2012

So the last time I saw the band live (2019) they played a sort of countdown audio with a woman's voice played to synth ambiance. Kinda like something you'd hear before a space ship liftoff, but the numbers were in random order. It kinda blended into their first song and held a long synth note until they all came onto the stage.
It felt very Protomen, and it definitely wasn't an 80s song from their spotify pre-show mix. It also wasn't the unreleased backing track to their old website in 2011 (named Countdown To Darkness, heard in LUTN film). That one actually played BEFORE the countdown track, and I may have been the only person present who recognised it from that era.
Does anyone know what it's called or where I can hear it again? I'll record it next gig, it's really cool
they posted on their story a studio again
Howdy folks.
In case anyone in Europe such as myself is keen to own a copy, it appears there’s a 500-run pressing of Act I on vinyl available to buy.
Well, 499 now.
Bonus points if it's when Proto Man shows up.
The hero character Seven (a robot man of some kind) references the song The Good Doctor in his selection lines

Hopefully timestamp works on the link. Otherwise it's at 17 minutes 33sec
Just thought it was a super cool little find and reference.
A couple days ago I posted a work I made based around the music of The Protomen, since then I’ve actually updated and refined that first piece in higher definition to be made in to a print on my redbubble! I’m sorry if this is double dipping but I’m actually pretty proud of how this finalized design came out
There’s a reason you survive.
Been listening to a lot of protomen lately and felt like I needed to work on art, just something thrown together
Hi, i’ve been listening to the protomen since i was in elementary school and I am now well into my college years. I’ve wanted to write a screenplay for Act 2 of the protomen for a while (i did theatre for years before deciding to study politics and love the power of music in film) but as I was thinking I was curious to know what you all thought the message of act 2s story was? For me it always felt like Act 2 was telling the story of a population that wasn’t mobilized, and failed to act even in the presence of a threat. That there was this under arching theme of freedom vs. security (security of finances, personal life, etc). Wiley offered these people basic needs all across the board but in return took away their freedoms. but lmk what you think. (i just listen to their music and read their storyline in the album books. don’t shoot me if they have already put an explanation out. ps. i’ve never played mega man so 😭)
As a side note I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find Act II vinyl for sale. I am UK based. Any advice?
And maybe straight for the next four years. This band is just continuously on point.
I mean, it's what it says on the tin, but for some context: I'm starting up an extremely sci-fi dnd campaign (like, robots everywhere, and a fair few references to the protomen, a robot bar called "the Hounds", and a few bosses), but I want to have a character that is directly inspired by the band's version of protoman as a reoccurring boss, but I have absolutely no idea how to do this, can someone please help?
I have decided that any song that includes the phrase, "our city," "the city," and especially "this city" takes place in the Protomen universe.
Yes, this includes, "Hot to Go."
some guy’s story had a segment where he said some thing could be a secret protomen album and the said “not secret anymore” but can’t tell if that was a joke or a genuine statement
As title asks. Was listening to Radar Love by Golden Earing and couldn't help but hear the similarities!
Check the minor key piano notes near the end of “Here Comes the Arm” and likewise near the end of the Mando theme song
I’ve just watched it on YouTube (not from US). Has anyone noticed how Panther couldn’t really hit the high notes during the concert? I was fairly concerned (though of course with aging and singing so much eventually your voice strains).
I think he was smart to sang in a lower register and spare his falsettos, but part of me was waiting for the very iconic highs on some of the songs.
Has anyone watched any live concert after that to confirm whether he is really losing the high notes or if it was just at this year’s MAGFest?
(Also: despite singing lower notes I think he gave an outstanding performance as always and his enunciation has never been this clear so he still rocked out beyond belief, and everyone else had their A+ game as always 💛)
In the character select screen of Valves new shooter, Deadlock, the robotic character "Seven" says "With these hands I will destroy, with these hands I will rebuild" when you pick him. Someone at Valve is a Protomen fan!
