I am investigating the connection between spirituality and activism. I am interested in how peoples' activism is driven by spiritual or religious beliefs. Of course, I suspect that for many or most political/social justice/climate justice/human rights/animal rights etc. activists, religion and/or spirituality will play no role at all and some may even hate the idea of it.
But I am interested in whether or not there are those who do feel like their spiritual beliefs guide them to fight for something that has affects more than just their own life. If so, I'd love to hear your personal story or experience with this connection. Does your connection with a higher power (however you define it) guide your activism or play some role in it? If so, please share! Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
In anticipation of the 2018 Midterms, a group of Redditors have decided to boycott advertisers on Fox News in the hopes of cutting off Fox's ability to fund propaganda at the advertiser level. (We have sourced information about Fox's advertisers from the #GrabYourWallet campaign)
We plan to achieve this goal by picking one advertiser at a time and coordinating all of our efforts towards them. We are choosing:
Not to buy the products of that company or any of its subsidiaries.
To send that company a message stating that we will boycott them until they choose not to support Fox News.
If this sounds interesting to you, please hop on over to /r/weaponizedconsumers. The first company that we have decided to boycott is CoorsMiller. They own all of the following brands: Coors, Coors Light, Killian's Irish Red, Blue Moon, Keystone, Keystone Light, Keystone Ice, Zima, Pale Moon, Honey Moon, Harvest Moon, Full Moon, Winterfest, Wildwood Westlake, and Colorado Native.
Full disclosure: I am a moderator of /r/ZeroWaste.
I believe that /r/ZeroWaste is a great community for exploring deeper into ways of reducing your waste and your footprint on the world.
The sidebar description:
Being "zero waste" means that we adopt steps towards reducing personal waste and minimizing environmental impact. The zero waste ideal is to send nothing to landfills or high-temperature incineration facilities and to prevent unnecessary pollution and the squandering of nonrenewable resources.
This community is for those who are interested in living a low- or zero-waste lifestyle. There is a major focus on the "5 R's", being refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, and rot. We follow this by reducing consumption, choosing reusable and sustainably-produced goods, promoting recycling and composting, and encouraging each other in our attempts to live more sustainably.
The community has grown significantly in the last year and has cultivated countless insightful discussions and ideas.
You should take a look!
