A Subreddit for the discussion of theory and application in precision agriculture. Examples include but are not limited to variable rate applications, financially sophisticated farming operations, laboratory and sensor analysis, high precision GPS systems, guidance products, RTK, GreenStar, CaseAFS, AgLeader, Raven, Trimble, ViperPro; etc.
Its not exactly Moore's law but the world population keeps getting bigger and our land mass isn't. Precision Ag tries to increase the efficiencies in production agriculture to feed a complacent demanding populace.

So I work in Precision Agriculture. I picked up the want from my dad having footholds in the same business. I have been in my position for about 12 years and have gotten good at what I do. My conflict is that a local farmer that has bought from dad for years has recently looked to me for advice in buying equipment and what to put in it. Now they have purchased and want me to upgrade the equipment. My hesitation is that I think my dad will take it poorly that I took the sale from him and our home farm. I really see two options. Proceed and deal with his reaction. Or confront him and offer him the sale with a commission for myself and my sales team. This will take away from company margins as I am not self employed. Thoughts?
I work in precision agriculture but usually in data administration not GIS. A few of our clients have expressed an interest in using a virtual base network for the GPS corrections on their farms. I have two questions: 1) I'm trying to understand what components are necessary to create a virtual base network for agriculture. 2) I'm also interested in knowing the coverage area for a single base VBS network and the coverage area for one base station and how many base stations are recommended for a given coverage area to produce solid rtk accuracy. Thanks very much for your help.
Hey everyone, I'm a graduate student in Agronomy and I'm working on a project to update a current Precision Agriculture Course. If you were to take an introduction course for Precision Agriculture, what topics would you want to see covered?
Hello,
I'm on a little project regarding Ethics and (Big) Data/Algorithms. I have several industries in my focus, and one of them is Agriculture.
My way of tackling the subject is looking at the tools in use in different countries/regions in order to help solving some issues regarding data (ownership, consent, use, protection, etc).
I'm especially interested in Labels and Charters/Codes of Conduct, or if they exist specific norms or laws.
For instance, for Charters/Codes:
agricultural data sharing by contractual agreement (COPA-COGECA)
[USA] Privacy and Security Principles for Farm Data (Farm Bureau 2014)
[FRANCE] Charte Data-Agri (FNSEA + Syndicat des jeunes agriculteurs)
For Labels:
[USA] AgData transparent (Jansen) + Ag Data Transparency Evaluator (ADTE)
[FRANCE] Label Data-Agri (following the Charter)
For norms and laws:
[USA] California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 (CCPA), Law of copyright (Data ownership), US Agriculture Data Act of 2018, Sherman Antitrust Act
[Australia] Australia's Competition and Consumer Act 2010, Data Sharing and Release Framework (w/ Consumer Data Right)
[EUROPE] General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR)
Please if you have any other example of Charter, Code of Conduct, Label, Norm, Law regarding this subject, share it so that I can look into it!
Indeed, in spite of the galvanizing environment for Ag Data and Smart Farming right now, it's not easy to find information regarding "ag data label" since the terms of research can be pretty wide.
Thanks!
Dear colleagues,
This is simply to let you know that we are currently running a Kickstarter campaign to produce our Multi-freq multi-constellation GNSS receiver (MEDEA), based on the new Ublox ZED-F9P. You can access the campaign here:

Hey! Basically I am getting into precision agriculture and am focusing on NDVI and NDRE mapping for farms. I have been flying 2 DJI Mavic Pros ( I have my FAA Part 107 License ), but I'm preparing to upgrade to a DJI Matrice 100 so I can get longer flights and mount NDVI and NDRE sensors.
I'd love to hear everyone's experience with NDVI and NDRE mapping ( I'm looking to buy sensors possibly from Sentera, any reviews or advice? ), a DJI Matrice 100 ( is that a smart choice?) and even any information about precision farming / mapping with drones in Florida. I plan to move there this year.
Thanks everyone! any information is very much appreciated.
