Hello! I recently applied for Einbürgerung a few days ago and received an acknowledgment mail with my application reference number. It's also mentioned that they'll process the application as fast as possible and contact me if they need additional documents.
I know that this whole process takes a couple of months to years depending on different scenarios (I currently have PR and am a non-EU citizen). Still, I was wondering if someone knows how long it is taking now in Potsdam, considering the new dual-citizenship law eliminates some of the bureaucratic process. It would be great if someone who went through the process recently can share their experience.
Hey everyone! I realize this sub is for students but hopefully I'm note breaking any rules
Brief context, I applied for Chancenkarte, and it got approved in August. So I quit my job in my country and hopped on a plane 2 weeks ago, lol.
I am currently staying at a friends place, and probably will live here for a while. I have some general technical questions about banks and stff, but the main reason I'm posting this is my friend is gonna be away for 1-2 weeks, and I have no idea what to do in the city in general! I stay near Sanssouci Park, and I realize Berlin would offer more for socializing but expatrio has still not opened up a blocked account for me, so I cannot get the 50-eur ticket, and I don't wanna get an ABC ticket everytime I go to Berlin, so I'm holding that off for a bit, until my bank stuff is all taken care of.
Can you guys recommend me some cafes, clubs, restaurants etc, that I can go by myself? I like going to a cafe and ordering a coffee, reading/writing/being on my laptop whilst drinking it. Would that be seen weird in certain cafes? Or for concerts, what would you suggest? I listen to pretty much anything.
I tried some dating apps to find people/make friends, but those apps always feel like a hellhole.
Idk, currently feel very awkward on what to do outside, hopefully not a stupid question.
Also, my other questions (if anyone'd want to answer) are as follows:
Has anyone used expatrio, and what document did you upload for the final step of verification? The only 4 options it gives me are; "Anmeldung", "lease contract", "a bill to my name" or a "letter from an insurance company". Since I'm staying at a friends place, I do not have 3/4 of these things. I uploaded my insurance contract (which I signed with expatrio's own insurance service anyway!) but it's still waiting for validation for 2 days, and I'm kinda afraid it's gonna be rejected.
I realize an Anmeldung is necessary, but I believe I cannot get it while staying w/ my friend. Are there any workarounds for this? Everything seems to require an Anmeldung, but I will be searching for jobs all over Germany for the following months, so I dont know if I can lease a place right now, since I might be required to move if I find a job..
I guess thats it, thanks in advance,
Tschüss!
My son is at the college with no car. We live in the Hudson Valley near Poughkeepsie. Amtrak lists a station in Potsdam. Are there any trains there and where do they go?
I heard there is bus service to and from Potsdam from somewhere around here. Does anyone have details on the schedule and cost?
Looking at options for him over the winter break.
Just a reminder that trapping seasons begin on October 25th. It is advised to keep any pets on a leash. Most traps will not be set near trails. Trappers use bait and lures that pets may be attracted to, even from a long distance.
In the event your pet does get caught in a trap, here is a video on how to release them. ONLY for releasing a pet. Releasing wild animals or otherwise tampering with a trap is illegal.
Let’s play DND 5e (English)!
I am looking for 5-6 players who are keen to meet fortnightly to play DnD 5e. I am finally ready to DM and host at my place in Kirschalle (end of 92 tram) in Potsdam.
I am a 29yo Filipino (born and raised in Manila) who migrated from Australia to Germany about a year ago. I have been playing DnD for 3 years now, and I have DMed a relatively short (~20 sessions) campaign in Australia. We had the best 6-months of our gradschool during our campaign. I am also currently in a campaign in Berlin as a player (but there is no such thing as too much DnD, right?).
I am thinking of playing the same adventure module (book based) that I ran last time, mainly because I am already a bit familiar with it and I have made my own additions/slight modifications to the story. And I adapt the game to the players to give them some challenge.
I am looking for players who value diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI), are respectful, and are team players. Beginners are so very welcome!
As a DM, I follow the rule of cool, with a preference for, in descending order, role-play, heist, dungeon crawl/jungle adventure, and combat. I and the players will co-create the world, and everything is possible except for anything that will make other players uncomfortable (e.g., no sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or very heinous crimes, among others). The players will always be the star of the show.
Hi everyone,
My girlfriend recently moved from the UK to Germany for a job, and we’re in the process of getting her a working permit. We registered her at my place in Berlin about two weeks ago. However, we’ve now found a flat in Potsdam and are wondering what the best approach is for the residence permit process.
We’ve heard varying things about the Ausländerbehörde in both Berlin and Potsdam, so I’m hoping some of you can share your experiences with the following:
Given that the Ausländerbehörde responsible is tied to the address, we’re trying to decide whether to keep her registered in Berlin (if it’s quicker) or update her registration to Potsdam (if that’s easier/faster).
She already has a job offer and a signed contract, so any advice or insights you can offer would be super helpful!
Thanks in advance!
Hi, I was unaware of the 10€ late penalty fee for University of Potsdam (I paid for the actual semester fees) but forgot to pay the extra 10€ for the late fee…
No one is replying to my emails and I don’t have access to my past grades, student record etc
Any advice and help would be appreciated I have now sent them the 10€ but I am worried it’s too late and they will not allow me to enrol for this semester
I’m planning on starting a masters degree in data science on April (Gisma University of Applied sciences ) , I understand it won’t be great education but it’s my only option. However since reading so many bad reviews online I’m afraid the university may be nothing more than a scam. If I pay will I be able to complete the degree ? Have you heard of people that finished their masters in said university ? This information would help me a lot
My partner & me are planning to walk around Sanssouci Some time soon. Ive heard its particularly pretty when the leaves turn coloured so I just wanted to ask if it's time to go yet. Tried to check some webcams but didn't find much.
Thanks in advance-
Hello I’m an international student for the course Msc Digital Health. Unfortunately my visa is taking time and I might miss lectures. Are there anyone doing Msc Digital Health this semester who I can enquire few stuff
Thank you
I have a Bachelors in Computer Science and will be starting a Masters in Bioinformatics this month. I'm having major imposter syndrome since I come from a purely technical background with no Bio knowledge. What are the rules in this Germany for taking up courses unrelated to your degree? (e.g. If i start studying Data Science courses while being enrolled in Bioinformatics). Is it complicated to switch to another degree program, considering it is so closely related to this one already? Lastly, what are my job prospects here if I choose to continue with Bioinfo?
Anyone in the same program at the university of Potsdam that wants to hang out? I’m an international student, in Berlin at the moment, and would love to meet people before the official start of classes. (My enrolment procedure hasn’t even finalized lol)
Hey guys, I applied for the enrollment for my Master's program at University of Potsdam. I've been waiting for almost 3 weeks for the completion and the German consulate in my country said that they need the Immatrikulationsbescheinigung for the visa. On the university portal, the status seems like in the photo. How much will I typically wait until the completion of the process? Thanks.
Ich suche aktuell Kastanien. Wohne in der Nähe vom nuthepark. Wo kann man da welche finden?
I am starting my Masters this year and I would like to know when the exam period is usually during winter semester
I'm a PhD student starting my journey at the University of Potsdam in January 2025 and I'm on the hunt for a room to stay. Whether you're a mighty landlord, fellow student, a working professional, or just someone looking for a chill housemate, let's chat! I am okay with anything below 500 Euros
If you have a room to spare or know someone who does, please reach out!
Hey guys! I will be starting my Master’s degree at the University of Potsdam (Germany) in October. The university has provided me with a semester ticket; however, I am unsure about the areas where it is valid and where I would need to purchase an additional ticket. For instance, is it valid for travel from the airport to Potsdam, or within Berlin? I would greatly appreciate it if you could kindly provide me with detailed information regarding the ticket's coverage.
Hi , I got 1.7 in my Abi in Tunisia and want to ask if this grade can get me in University of Potsdam, I want to study IT systems engineering or Informatik, my school leaving certificate can get me in, since the Bachelors are NC , I don't really know!
Wie findet ihr das neue Logo der Stadt? Wieso ist gerade der rechte Flügel ausgestreckt? Wieso schleift der Penis über den Boden? Und was ist das bitte für eine halb serife, halb serifenlose Schrift?
Same as titel. I'm also a student of SVB.
Hi, has anyone experienced issues with their insurance sending their M10 message? Mine was sent on Sept 5th and I got an email on the 13th from the university that they have not received any proof of insurance. Could it be because I signed up with an "ä" for the insurance and "ae" for the university in my name? I've message the university but no response due to high volume.
Hi! I made a WorldGuessr map and I want to see how well people can do. Go try it out and see how many locations you can within .1 miles :) https://www.worldguessr.com/map/potsdam-ny
Hello, I'm going to start my MSc studies at Potsdam Golm, and it would be nice to connect with people who are also going to study MSc in Geosciences.
Hello everybody! I am an international incoming student to study at the University of Potsdam. During my studies, I will be accommodating at Studentenwerk Potsdam placed near Am Neuen Campus. I am wondering that how STW’s canteens and cafeterias work? I mean how much buying a meal costs and are meals tasty? If not do you suggest University of Potsdam’s canteens and cafeterias? I think I’m not gonna have enough time to cook everyday.
I’ll be starting my Master’s program at University of Potsdam in about a month and I still have no place to stay. l'm stressed beyond belief or reason at this point. I secured admission end of July and the first thing I did was try and find housing. I applied for student dorms but nothing was available even way back in the first week of August. Then, I turned to Facebook groups and Google in general and it's been downright impossible to find something. There were people who got in touch with me and when I asked for pictures or questions in general, they disappeared. There were people who tried to scam me. There were people who were offering places but with conditions like rent the entire 4 bedroom apartment. I am out of options and even though I feel silly posting on reddit about this, at this point I'm just feel like I’ll post anywhere just to find a place. If you can offer any genuine help, I'd be forever grateful.
I thought I would put it into the aether iin case they ever stumbled across it.
Day of Visit : Saturday, 31 August 2024
Please would arrive Germany precisely by the end of this month and I need an affordable student apartment at Postdam. Currently enrolled at the university of Postdam.
