Who greenlit the construction on the Maplewood bridge, Bartlett street, and Congress street all at the same time?

Bartlett has been under construction since I think May, the bridge has been closed for weeks, and Congress street has been under construction for months as well. Who thought it would be a good idea to do all of this construction at the same time?

Stairway to Heaven Comics and Games

Stairway to Heaven is a wonderful comic book and gaming store on Gosling Road (across the street from the AT&T store and Bull Moose). The staff are always warm and helpful.

In August the store experienced a break-in, and a lot of cash and collectibles were stolen. To make things worse, another store in the plaza had a fire shortly afterwards, which caused smoke and soot damage.

Starting Monday, Stairway will have to close the store to make repairs. This work may take two weeks.

For those in the area, please consider stopping in the store this weekend and helping out. This could be as simple as picking up a few comics, collectibles, or games. Regular customers can also consider buying a gift certificate now and using it over time to buy their regular purchases.

Excelsior!

Why so expensive?

Why is NH so expensive to buy? The seacoast is impossible. And even as you go in-state, houses are still unaffordable unless it's mobile homes. Why is NH so expensive given there are no great companies, or jobs. Most jobs are in MA.

Trump flag waver in Market Square.

Who is this guy? All day just standing there with that flag. No job, no friends?

I don't get it.

Recommendations for breakfast venue in Portsmouth

I am planning a wedding in Portsmouth for next July, and I want to host a breakfast the morning after for my guests. Does anyone have any recommendations for venues in town that host large (~100 people) breakfast events?

Downtown Gems for a Newbie

Hello! My husband and I are spending a single night downtown on Saturday, it marks our first getaway since my 8 year old daughter are born. We’ve never been to Portsmouth before. Would love any tips for favorite restaurants, breweries, wine bars and live music spots. I already researched all the larger music venues (Jimmys, Music Hall + Lounge, Pressroom, 3S), and nobody that suits us is performing. Not sure if there are bars/restaurants that typically just have local musicians open mic style?

Also would love little charming parts of town to check out. Was thinking a walk in Prescott Park would be nice, but really open to anything! Google is failing me. Any advice would be appreciated!

Where to play electronic darts?

I'm in town for this week on a ship. I have no one to play darts with but I know that the electronic boards sometimes have internet access to play others remotely.

FYI, I have steel tip darts too but it's hard to find anyone to play against at the pool hall.

Thank you!

Child with autism starting Kindergarten

Hello! My husband, 4-year-old son, and I are considering moving to NH for a number of reasons, including an increase in crime where we currently live in Vermont. Our son is on the spectrum (ASD level 1 so mildly impacted) and will be starting Kindergarten next year; we would like to settle into a new town before then. We are curious about the Seacoast, specifically Durham/Lee, and the New London area. We're familiar with both areas but know nothing about the schools or services for kids on the spectrum. Are there any autism parents out there who have knowledge of the school systems in these areas, how they accommodate children with special needs, the general culture and attitude towards those with special needs, and ABA and other autism-related services that might be available. Any information at all would be helpful!

For the girl on her new scooter last night

I was out taking photos last night with my brother and this girl pulled up on her scooter asking for a picture since it was her first time riding it. She didn’t give me any contact info so hopefully this can get forwarded around and if she wants the original I can send it.

Picture was taken on Daniel Street by Moe’s (obviously) around 9pm.

Homeless in Portsmouth

This city should be ashamed of the homeless population in the center of downtown. All over this city there are new developments and houses costing millions of dollars and yet the homeless population has tripled. The city of Portsmouth needs to address this absolute systematic failure.

Jimmy’s Jazz Club PreSale

Hi all -

Planning to surprise my wife with a trip to Portsmouth this fall and just noticed a great show at Jimmy’s.

Not sure how their presale codes work but does anyone have one they are willing to share to access the presale?

The Stubb Hub prices are already crazy and I’m afraid it will sellout.

Cheers

Dogs in school grounds

Anyone know if I am allowed to walk my dog through school grounds after hours? (In this case, 7am) Been taking my dog by new Franklin for the last three years, and someone yelled at me today. (No one official just a random Karen who was power walking). I can't find it on the city website, just curious if I am the a-hole.

Solid Seafood place

I recently moved to the area and haven’t really gotten to explore the restaurants Downtown, only eaten at the Oar house and had drinks at some bars. My grandparents are coming to visit me this weekend and want good seafood at a reasonable price. Thought I’d see what word the word is, any recommendations?

The basement yard

Is anybody here a fan of the basement yard podcast? I have an extra ticket for sale because my friend can’t make it, thought it might be fun to make a new friend and go see them at their live show at Radio City in NYC on October 1st. Ideally looking for a female 20-30ish. I am also female.

Good view of cargo ships, barges, or cranes?

Hi all. My son asked to see "dock yards" tomorrow and wanted to know if there was any specific spot in the town where you could get a good view of this? Inspired by Cranky and Bullstrode from Thomas the Train. Thank you!

Rainy day activities for out of town guests

We have some adult family members coming to town and one of the days they’ll be visiting will rain. Any suggestions for rainy day touristy type activities? They’ll have a car and are staying downtown.
