Well blow me down! A subreddit for Popeye fans!
/r/popeye
Howdy! I used to love Popeye as a kid and now that he’s in the public domain I was thinking about making a story with him.
I know the basics of public domain law from college, but what is exactly in the public domain regarding Popeye?
If I were to make a new say “episode” of Popeye, what design and story details what I have to keep in mind to make it legally? Thanks!
Decided to finally make a can of Popeye's signature spinach and found glasses cloths worked the best for his cartoon spinach!
He and Bluto had been away at sea so long that even a woman that looked like Olive Oyl was a hottie and worthy of fighting over. Anyone else ever think of this?

The image does not belong to me!
And the idea is better than the usual generic boring horror movie concepts people use for PD character these days!
Back when I was a kid in the late 90's I used to see spinach packages with Popeye's face on it. They sadly stopped selling it about 5 or 6 years later.
I grew up watching the old Popeye cartoons as well. I legitimately thought eating this particular Popeye approved spinach would give me Popeye powers! Sadly I never got a chance to try it as my mom would buy other brands of fresh spinach.
Kinda sad the stores don't sell it anymore. The spinach capital of the world (Crystal City, Texas) is located in my state and it features a Popeye Statue so you'd think we'd have more of that!
I remember watching a Popeye compilation on VHS when I was younger. One particular episode stuck with me, and I can't seem to find it. The memory is vague, but I distinctly remember Bluto and Popeye fighting over Olive Oyl and carrying her over a wooden plank between their ships. I think she was calling for Popeye to save her but unsure of that part. I'm pretty sure I watched it in black and white as well if that helps.
If anyone recognises or knows this episode please let me know

Where can I watch the black-and-white, original version of 1930-1940 in good quality?
Maybe I can download or buy it somewhere
When I was young my grandparents had a few DVDs and a VHS tape of Popeye episodes. Two of them were called PyePye instead of Popeye. Unfortunately the DVDs and VHS are long, long gone and I can't find anything about this online.
Anybody have any idea what PyePye was?
So now you can legally make Popeye stuff as his copyright expires this year.
I posted this to /r/comicstripart and I actually found 2 people who remember this specific Popeyes! Small world ey!
Any additional information is very much appreciated
