Hello! Stumbled upon this subreddit while searching for a discount on Amish Country popcorn, now about to try Snappy, and hoping to find some Great Northern.
Any brands I’m missing? Anything else at the top of your list?
Set-up: stove top, Jamie Oliver stainless pot (easier to clean than Whirley pop), yellow corn, canola oil, nutritional yeast, tamari
I got this popcorn machine for Christmas. No more sad microwave bags - just fresh, buttery movie-theater popcorn at home. What could go wrong?
Everything, every single step:
- First, just putting in the kernels, butter, and flavacon without making a mess was impossible (not much room)
- Then I realized the machine wasn't big enough to make enough for both kids in one go.
- The popcorn it makes wasn't even that good - definitely not as poppy and crunchy as the microwave bags. I've tried different temps, more air, less air, different timing - still not 100% crunch.
- There would be a good amount of corn that is not popped that shoots out in the beginning
- Also, it somehow gets everywhere. Even with the doors closed, I open it and popcorn just explodes onto the floor.
- Then transferring it from the tray to a bucket is another mess.
- And the whole thing takes 30 minutes just to make enough for both kids, who, by the way, have zero interest in making the popcorn. They just want to eat it.
- Cleaning it is a nightmare. You have to clean the whole inside, and the tiny cooker part is a pain to get into.
Tonight, I gave up, made microwave popcorn again, threw on some extra coconut oil, and everyone was happy. I have no idea what to do with this machine now, but I might just go back to my trusty microwave bags for now. Now I’m wondering… are all these pain points just me being clueless, or has anyone else had the same experience?
I also have tried every spices that my mom has. Made paprika, zaatar and liveche (don’t know the name of it in english), dilled aneth, thyme, oregan, yellow and orange spices (I should learn their English names more seriously) etc. I won’t try mint because it feels weird on popcorn though. I use sunflower oil for holding spices or other stuff.
Are there more flavours to popcorn? I’d love to explore more flavours if possible. I make my popcorn in the microwave for 2:00 minutes, then put my oily mix after it’s done poping and shake the bowl.
I've had the popcorn bowl for a few years now and I'm wondering if there are any tricks to successful, tasty popcorn? I've been very disappointed and often have overcooked popcorn, the timing seems very inconsistent. I use about 1 tbsp butter in the lid, some unmeasurable salt in the bowl. I used to microwave 1 (lid) cup of kernels for 4:20, ive had to go lower lately but it's still not great. Tonight I microwaved for 4 minutes and they were burned.
I know I know, it’s incredibly overpriced for what it is but I’m a sucker for well-made and thought out products… and popcorn of course!
My only concern is with some reports of paint chipping over time and the turn-mechanism not holding up to use.
Is anyone here a long term owner and be willing to speak to the quality or lack-there-of?
Thanks in advance!
It was my favorite popcorn and I’ve been trying to find something similar since they discontinued it but I can’t for the life of me find anything as good
Since Rural King stopped selling Amish Country around here, their house brand is hard to get and the rainbow kernels were not that good, I'm experimenting. Not sure where the e-coli came from. I'll wash the bag to be sure. 🤣
Trader Joe’s came out with a French onion soup popcorn this year and it rocked my world. And like most things I love there, I found out it’s seasonal and didn’t have a chance to stock up before it was gone until next Thanksgiving. But I was thinking maybe this is something that can be replicated.
Has someone ever attempted this flavor? I’m a novice at popcorn- and just mastered the Whirly pop movie popcorn, so I’m open to any advice!
Thanks in advance!
I need to know how many calories are in one bag. I did not purchase it, I didn’t see the box. There isn’t any branding on the bag. I reverse google searches it but nothing conclusive. I saw some Tik Toks on Google but I don’t have that app.
It's a fundraiser brand, so each bag is about $14 dollars. I bought some to support a friend and its honestly pretty addicting, just pricey!
It's supposed to be a caramel-and-cheese coated popcorn instead of the usual mix. reaaally good
Truly life-changing combo 🤌
I like it just fine like this, but you can grind it more finely in a dry blender. It’s so good!
I'm new to serious popcorning, is this a good deal or did I get ripped off?
As shown in the image the silicone lid on my popper always "seals or vacuums" when I pop a lot of popcorn (there are two lines for kernals; this happens when I fill it to the 2nd line)
Because of the seal, it doesn't allow the rest of the kernals to pop so I have to take out the popped popcorn and pop the rest of the kernals. The lid is supposed to stay loose throughout the whole popping process. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can prevent it?
I typed a question into the Google search bar because I wanted to extrapolate how far a recent kernel order would last. I am a total novice when it comes to cooking and measuring, but for some reason I'm not quite following the LLM's logic, lol.
I recently learned about "honey dust" AKA dehydrated honey while chatting with someone about boutique movie theater popcorn and it made me wonder if anyone here had had tried it on popcorn, either alone or in a blend.
I know everyone asked how to make movie popcorn but has anyone figured out a good way to make it with an air popper? Could I just put melted butter flavored coconut oil on top like the butter stuff you find at the store and then add flavacol? Please help!
Two sticks, melted over medium low heat until it stops bubbling. Skim off the foam, and strain off.
You can buy ghee as well.
I use a 1:1 blend of clarified butter, and coconut oil when I pop on the stove top.
