As a kid I looked forward to getting a Christmas popcorn tin every year. The white cheddar was always my favorite! Since I started making my own popcorn with coconut oil and flavacol this year, my annual popcorn tin has left me feeling disappointed. How do I make my own white cheddar popcorn that is not soggy and sad. What's products do you use?
Just wondering but is Garrett popcorn taking a beating? Except for chicago, all of their US stores have closed the last few years. I had some of their popcorn shipped to me and it wasnt that good.
Thanks!
👋 Hello! I'm looking for a dupe or a recipe close to Colorado Jack's jalapeño white cheddar powder, would appreciate any tips
Thanks!
What is the absolute best popcorn experience with this budget? All opinions welcome. Thank you in advance!
I used to import Wabash Valley Farms popcorn to Belgium for years, but beginning 2024 they refuse to ship to my country.
So now I'm stuck with regular yellow popcorn, I still buy a quality brand but still..
I'm considering Amish Country rainbow or purple popcorn, but the costs for shipping are extremely high.
How much would you spend? What type of kernel is you r favorite and why?
Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? I preheat the kettle for 3-4 minutes, then add the oil, let it start to smoke then add the kernels. I've used the Great Northern and Amish Country packs. Both taste fine, but the finished popcorn is never very crunchy or melt in your mouth. The texture is chewy like it is steaming in the kettle.
Mine has given up. Honestly the aluminum shavings were concerning me. Now that it's no longer turning (vertical gear lifting out of alignment), I need an upgrade suggestion.
I typically make large batches on the stove and will go that direction still. Ideas?
On Amazon there are several brands of popcorn that pride themselves on being the same as the ones in cinemas, but I would like to know if any of the connoisseurs here can suggest one that is really comparable to the ones in cinemas.
Thank you in advance for your enlightened suggestions.
I love my Whirly Pop, but hate that I sometimes get soggy popcorn. After finishing popping, I open the lid, wipe off the condensation from the underside of the lid and plop in some butter to let it melt. Then I spin it around.
This time, I laid a wooden spoon on the rim of the pot under the lid which gave me room to still spin the whirly piece and allowed sufficient venting. I then did my thing with the butter and my popcorn was crispy! Thank you!
Hi all! I usually make popcorn in one of those collapsible silicone microwave popcorn makers. Has anyone used one of these in a drawer microwave? I may be getting a new pull out microwave, but a concern is that they’re several inches shorter than my over the stove one, so I’m not sure if a fully popped bowl would fit. Thanks!
I’m retired and living in Mexico, finishing up my home theater and looking for a Popcorn maker. Choices are pretty much limited to Amazon (Mexico) and this Cuisinart is on sale for Black Friday. It checks almost all the boxes for what I’m looking for:
Uses oil.
Easy to disassemble for cleaning
Has automatic stir rod to keep kennels moving.
Relatively compact so it’ll fit in a cupboard when not in use.
Does anyone here have any experience with this model? Any cons I should know about? TIA
I'm aware that the whole popcorn at the first Thanksgiving is a myth. But I'm going for a light dessert this year. Fruit an different types of popcorn. I'm more excited about that than the turkey
This sounds horrifying yet delicious given the amount of butter! Morbidly curious to try!
I guess the only difference is that it is pure salt (no iodine or anticaking or other additives). Anyone ever use this. I have a box left over from turkey brine
Forgive me if it’s a common question but I need to know. I’m an old school popcorn popper with oil in a regular pot over the stove type popcorn person. This, so far, is the best tasting popcorn I know. For those that have bought the whirley pop and pop smith and various types… is it worth it??!!!!!!??? I neeeeed to know if spending that kind of money is worth it!!! I LOVE POPCORN! PLEASE HELP ME!!! With my endless internal debate on if it even tastes better then on the stove oil popped popcorn!!! Or is it just a money grab. WHAT IS the absolutely bested tasting way to cook popcorn??? Forget the topping and the seasonings.. what is the most delicious way to cook popcorn???? Please tell me. Thank you very very much in advance ❤️🍿❤️
Should I get a whirly-pop or a commercial style one with a kettle? My needs are approximately 2 large movie theater popcorn buckets (which for AMC theaters is about 150 fl oz per bucket). If a commercial style one, what size kettle should I get (e.g. 4 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz) and which brand do you recommend (e.g. Paragon, Carnival King, Great Northern)?
OK, I am using Orville Redenbacher kernels from the airtight plastic bottle stored in a dry place. I add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to my Whirlypop along with 3 kernels of corn. Once they pop I add 1/4 cup of the kernels and move them around to coat them in the oil. In about a min or so it starts popping and I spin it until the popping slows down. I pour it into a bowl immediately and add some melted butter and popcorn salt then shake it up. It has been chewy every time so far. I will try one piece before adding butter and it is chewy even before adding anything.
I have tried doing my own research on this but the issue that I thought was the main culprit was steam being trapped in my popper so last time I made it I held one of the doors open enough to let it out… still super chewy popcorn, I am asking for help and not looking for negativity. I am aware this is a popcorn sub and I have tried figuring this out for myself but am still getting the same results. I have ruled out trapped steam during popping and the kernels having too much moisture prior to popping from improper storage. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
My local Big Lots is closing and had these 30% off. I'm an Amish Country fan so how does this compare in your opinion?
I don’t think I could live without this stuff!
I scored a Great Northern "whirly pop". I'm used to making popcorn in a 5qt pot on my stove. What are some best practices for this thing? I've already got different oils, flavocol, unsalted butter, white kernels. Tips and tricks greatly appreciated!!!
Here in Brisbane there has always been a popcorn stall in shopping centres that sells multiple flavours, and one of them was sour cream and bacon flavour. Best popcorn I have ever eaten hands down. Unfortunately they have stopped selling it as the company that makes the flavouring has shut down. Does anyone know if you can just buy a sour cream and popcorn flavouring and put it on the popcorn? Or is there a special way to apply it to get it the way popcorn is at those stalls? Any help appreciated!!
Paying it forward bc I’ve gotten so many great tips here. Macys has an awesome Whirley pop sale. The aluminum is $23 and the stainless steel is $40. I got free shipping and no tax , too , somehow. I haven’t been tracking prices TOO closely but this is certainly the lowest I’ve seen.
I joined this sub because I love popcorn. I think it's the perfect snack; a little bit of culinary magic.
But it seems like a lot of people here just assume that American movie theater popcorn is the gold standard that everyone aims for. Buying flavacol is a standard suggestion.
I like movie theater popcorn as much as the next person, and I get that it's nostalgic for many. But it's not even close to what I think of as ideal popcorn, and I have a hard time believing that there aren't a ton of other people like me.
I'll take melted butter and salt over "movie theater" any day. But really, I love being able to vary a wide array of sweet and salty flavors on popcorn. Often, I like to have as minimal a topping as possible to best appreciate the flavor of the corn. My favorite popcorn is topped with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, dried dill, ground mustard, and nutritional yeast.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my rant. I still appreciate you if you're a flavacol enjoyer. I just want to feel like it's not the only way.
Just purchased the Whirley pop thanks to all the recommendations here! What else do I need (preferably things I can order on Amazon). Is there a specific oil and flavanol? What about the kernels? Is there an Amazon favorite brand ? What’s the difference in all the varieties ? Thank you!
