Navigation

Hi, if not appropriate, just tell me. I'm an australian writing a fantasy novel set in a literally endless sea of grass. I'm trying to establish a method of navigating between settlements and realised that there's a perfect historical example of exactly the mastery I'm after. I understand the basics, Polynesian explorers used the stars and currents and the movements of wildlife to chart with unerring accuracy the location of islands in the goddamn Pacific Ocean. What I'm unclear on is how! It's genuinely unimaginable to me that kind of knowledge. Any info someone can offer me past the Wikipedia surface level explanation would be super appreciated. I'm not expecting to become an expert, but like, a bit more than "yup they used the stars" would be amazing!

BREAKING: The Military is flushing "treated" water from fuel-contaminated pipes straight into an open drain in Kapilina Beach Homes civilian housing. The length of the drain snakes through civilian housing completely unsupervised. Any child who can't read could play in it.

Polynesian Self-designation

Hi there Does anyone in here know if there is a common Polynesian term for themselves as a people/ethnic group? And I mean in a Polynesian language rather than an English term like 'Polynesian'.

Thanks in advance!

Kaivai

Hello you all! I got a game called Kaivai, that's about the Polynesian/Micronesian/Melanisean migrations thousand years ago. On the game, it translates the game's name to something like "water eater", who were the expert navigators that led said migrations.

Is that translation right? How is it supposed to be spelled?
