For all your physical formats; from Vinyl to Cassettes to CDs, VHS to DVD to Bluray, and Comics to Novels.
This is intended as a general purpose subreddit who are fans of physical media in general and want to discuss or share their hobby.
Since the popularization of the of the home computer and purely digital media, there has been several communities of people devoted to what some may describe as "obsolete" formats. This includes, but is not limited to, books, vinyl, comics, tapes, CDs, and really any analog or digital format that is not stored purely as ones and zeroes on a hard drive. Maybe you like pulling the record out of it's sleeve, maybe you find joy of turning the crisp pages of a newly bought book, maybe you just love being able to flip through your expansive collection of discs and tapes to find just the right movie, or, just maybe, you love all three and then some.
Adhere to general internet etiquette. Don't be a dick or spam and you'll probably be fine.
When posting, try to have a descriptive title and refrain from posting pictures without descriptions. Either add the descriptions through imgur, a self post + picture, or in the comments.
Try to refrain from posting memes and general "Low Effort Content". A few here and there are nice, but if it becomes enough of an issue they will be banned entirely.
Respect people's interests. This is a general purpose subreddit for all forms of physical media and we will definitely have people who are more interested in one form of media than another, but don't forget that this is for all forms of media, and that may sometimes include some you may not be too interested in. You can always go to the specific subreddit for that if you want.
Have Fun! We're here to have fun, so remember that. Disagreements will most definitely happen, but keep it civil and don't escalate it to any more than it needs to be.

John Wick Chapter 4 Nova Media Steelbook (shot this BEFORE they announced the new 4k one 🤦♂️)
Unboxing video in the comments 😊
As A Good Amount Of You May Know, There's Talks Of A Merger Between Warner Bros. Discovery And Paramount And If There's Anything We Know About David Zaslav, It's His Obsession With Tax Write-Offs. That's Why Whatever Shows And Movies From Paramount Need To Be Bought Up While They Can.
The Santa Clause trilogy is the American release as it's the only way to get 1 and 2 on Blu-Ray. Annoyingly, those are region free, but 3 isn't, despite the printing on the disk claiming it is, so I'll need the UK Blu-Ray for that.
The Mandalorian is the 4K set.
For those of you with large, collections, how do you organize your media? Do you do it alphabetically? Separate blue ray from dvds? Do you first separate by genre? #dvdorganization
Adding to my doomsday physical media collection this weekend with this haul from across 3 thrift stores that added 46 DVDs and 16 Blue-rays to the collection.
I have seen some collectors keep their DVDs/Blu Rays in a plastic slip cover. I have considered this as many of my discs are on an open shelf and I would like to keep dust off long term.
Cheers!
I'm not a big fan of Modern Main Menus on Physical Media. I miss the days of the Shrek 2 DVD Main Menu or, something that is really memorable to me, the early 2000s Star Wars DVD Main Menus where it has different planets that it alternates between from the film and little settings and scenes from said planet as the different menues.
Nowadays, it's either just a clipshow of the Film and or TV Show or even at most times, just the Film and and or TV Show's Wallpaper Poster with a little bit of the intro music playing over it.
Took a while to get here all the way from Australia.... But its a beauty! TALK TO ME collectors set
i want to purchase the TV show Power (50 Cent) but it only exists on DVD in my country, if i watch it on a UB820 will the picture quality have a significant improvement?
i want great picture quality and just want to know if it’s worth getting it on DVD or watching it on a streaming service instead
Have a couple things for sale if anyone is interested The Batman and American Werewolf In London are sealed all except American Werewolf are 4K I accidentally bought a regular blu-ray while intending to buy the 4K version of American Werewolf in London and just never bothered returning it. The Batman I found a Steelbook I liked shortly after buying this and hadn't opened it yet....same with Lebowski except I had already opened it.
Kind of a Hot Take here, I'm not really a fan of Steelbooks. I don't really like that it's easy to get fingerprints on them and I never know what to do with the J Card and sometimes the artwork is kind of meh IMO. Sometimes it's cool, but maybe Steelbook just isn't for me sadly. Although I will admit, it can be a cool little collector's item.
In particular, what was the packaging like (i.e. shipping box, packing material)? Also, what can I expect if I backorder something?
I’m curious because they have the complete Star Trek: The Next Generation Blu-Ray set on sale for $115.70 and it’s backordered.
Which one do you guys prefer?
I had posted the prices before but never added a picture
Using the same titles as a control on multiple formats, I’ve seen full screen that lacks additional material to the right and left of the frame and wide screen that lacks additional information on the top and bottom that is otherwise visible in full screen.
In one instance I can think of, a Region 4 release had additional picture to the top and bottom of the frame when compared with the same title on widescreen.
As a general rule of thumb, does Region 4 display the image in its entirety or to the greatest extent?
I’m interested in seeing more of the intention of the filmmaker, a greater insight into how the misc-en-scen primarily
Recently started collecting physical media and I’m running i to the frustrating problem of cartoons from my childhood having never been release fully or at all as physical media. The cartoon series Chowder only had the first season split over two volumes. Ruby Gloom has about seven volumes each with four episodes that span all of season one and half of season two. How do you deal with this? Do you get bootlegs? Do you just download it?
