Looking for Recommendations for MVI in Summerside

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Summerside and need to get a Motor Vehicle Inspection (MVI) done for my car. Can anyone recommend a good, reliable place to get it done? Ideally looking for somewhere with fair prices and friendly service. I appreciate any suggestions or experiences you’ve had!

Thanks in advance!

Adoption

Has anyone grown their family through the departmental (public) system for adoption in PEI? I’d love to hear other’s experiences. What have wait times been like? The approval process? First steps?

Do people who push anti-immigration and other right-wing opinions realize their ideas align with Russia's goals?

If your opinions align with these, you should question your opinions.

Do our MLAs do any work

So the legislature resumes today after how many months? I find it weird that we never hear anything from our elected MLAs as it always seems to be the bureaucrats who are handling the accountability piece even though they're not even elected. The HEALTH PEI salary boondoggle wasn't even on the health ministers radar. Just a shrug like that song "It wasn't me," and no one gets disciplined or experiences any repercussions. Are they all asleep at the wheel? What do they even do when they're not shouting at each other in the legislature? They often don't know the answers to the questions put to them and relying on the bureaucrats to answer?

Ps5 console repair near Charlottetown?

Playstation 5 recently died on me (I believe it is a capacitor/board issue) and I'm wondering if anyone has had good experiences with local repair shops? Ive heard mixed reviews from a few for other issues, but nothing specific to this console.

Survey PEI Public Schools Calendar

Island residents are invited to share their input on the upcoming school calendar for 2025-26.

The school calendar outlines key dates for the upcoming year, including when classes are in session, teacher training days, parent-teacher interviews, and school holidays. Every school calendar balances student instructional time and professional development and upskilling opportunities for staff to continue delivering quality education.

Why are some license plates shrunken/damaged

Last few years I'm seeing damaged license plates on PEI. The wrap is peeling off usually in the same manner, taking the whole print with it making the plate hardly legible.

One parks nearby and looks like a drug dealers car tbh so I think these are illegal plates. I drove behind one today I recognize seeing before, it was an older foreign woman driving a Nissan Micra.

Are these fake license plates? Should I report these to police?

Has anybody else had a negative experience with Docbraces?

I finished Invisalign treatment a little while back with them, and honestly it’s just been overall one of the worst experiences I’ve had with any sort of dental/medical care. I’m just curious if others have had issues with them? Or, if they’ve been generally fine for other people.

Thanks!

Which bank would you recommend for a new savings account?

I’m looking to open a savings account with a new bank. So far I’ve been looking into Tangerine, PC financial and Simpli financial as they have no monthly fees. What’s people’s experiences with these banks, or any other suggestions?

Mushroom Picking

Do wild edible mushrooms grow on PEI? If so, have people every picked any? Things such as chanterelles or other types of mushrooms.

I live in the Charlottetown area so something with 30 minutes would be be nice.

Have you ever picked any yourself?

Is there a bad flu bug going around that’s not Covid?

My partner has been brutally sick for about a week, negative for Covid (he had it less than 2 months ago, but he still tested a bunch anyway). He’s been having intense vomiting, diarrhea, aches, chills, cough, etc. He felt better for a day or two, but it’s back with a vengeance.

Health Canada reports genuine influenza levels are still very low. So, I’m just wondering if he’s just super unlucky or if something else is going around.

Thanks!

It takes 2 seconds.

Emoloyers; if you tell an interviewee that you're going to tell them either way whether they have been selected for a job, especially if you've set the expectation of "the end of the week", take the 2 seconds to fire off an email. It's not like you're giving any kind of feedback anyway when you don't select someone. Plus, ghosting is stupid. Many of you have working HR departments. They were able to be in contact enough to set up an interview. What, suddenly roo busy?

Questions about selling a car

Almost a decade ago I sold a 20 year old car that was no longer running to someone who intended to fix it up and get it going again. At that time, however, I lived in Ontario and there was a market for people buying cars to fix in shop classes, at home, etc. Just curious if there's any market like that in PEI today?

I've got a 2015 Jetta, but it's not running and most places are quoting 4k - 6k minimum for a fix. My wife and I just decided to buy a new car, but we're just trying to figure out what to do with the Jetta. Is there any kind of market for it here in PEI? I could junk it, but it just seems a shame when it's only 8 or 9 years old.

Questions on immigrating to PEI

So I grew up on PEI and then in my adult years I moved away. Unfortunately my father never applied for Canadian Citizenship so I have to start the immigration process all the way from zero. Some of my family is still in PEI and I would like to be re-united with them.

So if anybody that has experience immigrating to PEI could answer these questions it would be much appreciated.

Looking at my options the Occupations in Demand stream appears to be the best one: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/en/information/office-of-immigration/occupations-in-demand

I have experience in construction and this seems like the best path but I have questions I could use help with.

1.) It seems like I would have to find an employer that is willing to complete this form: https://www.princeedwardisland.ca/sites/default/files/forms/peiw-02_workforce_job_offer_form.pdf . If I am successful and my application goes through, would that mean I get a work permit that allows me to work for that employer only? Or would it be for construction work in general? What if I get to PEI and employer lays me off for lack of work?

2.) Can I do this whole immigration process without a consultant? It seems fairly easy to do, but I get that sometimes with bureaucracy you need the right connections to get things moving, have any of you immigrated through this stream without paying a consultant?

3.) How long did the whole process take from start to finish?

Thinking about moving to PEI

Hi everyone, I’ll just make this quick, I am a half arab, half latino who lives in Quebec, and the vast majority of people here in Quebec are very rude and I just wanted to know how are the people here in PEI. Are they nicer than the quebecers ? And how is life generally for an immigrant in PEI ?

Thank you

Going on EI with 2 kids?

I’m looking for some info about going on Ei while having 2 kids. I have a job that is full time but need to have a few months off in the winter and I was wondering if you get more money on Ei if you have kids or if there is a way to get more money if you have kids

If there’s no info on that. I would also like to know if any one would know of any place that hires just for the winter that way I’m not burning any bridges just abruptly leaving at the start of April

Edit: I’m being laid off because of the winter. I’m a landscaper with a full time job spring, summer, and fall

Norwood carpool lot

Does anyone know what the purpose of the Norwood carpool lot is? I assumed it was a carpool lot, but it looks like a junk yard. All kinds of inoperable vehicles. Cars on blocks, no plates, no windows, flat tires, it’s an unreal eyesore. Anyone know why the junk is not towed? Scared of hurting someone’s feelings?

Ring alterations

Hi! I recently inherited a ring and need to get it sized up. I have a second ring that is unused, both rings are gold, that I thought I could use to add to the band. I’d like to add gold to the band and keep it wider as I’ve had a ring resized before and it ended up too thin and breaking. Any ideas? Willing to travel anywhere on the island for good work :)
