What’s with the province house in Charlottetown?

Hi. I recently moved back. Before I moved for a year and when I came back it appears they’re still chipping away at it. I walk by it every day but never see anything getting done to it, just people standing around or pretending. Does anyone know if they’re refurbishing it or they just found something they’re trying to get rid of?

My father back in 2017 worked for the construction company ‘reworking’ it and he said they had found tunnels underneath with some history in them, books and such, but they were the kind of company that moves around once they’re finished so he didn’t go with them after they were done with the province house.

Sorry if this seems like a schizophrenic ramble, I’ve just been getting older and getting more upset/curious about the fact there is zero information public about anything, which is a given because I doubt any place would flaunt their dark history.

They are wasting so much money on this worthless building. I think the Charlottetown governments hold on heritage needs to be let go and focused on the people who have lived here their entire lives rather than on the tourists alone.

Province says increase in calls to P.E.I.s gambling support line means its support programs are working

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.7394635

I am feeling bombarded by Atlantic lotteries' new ad campaign. Seen the mocking seagulls 10+ times on YouTube, and targeted through Google ad space daily/weekly.

I don't gamble! Wth. I did a phone survey a few years ago for them and they consistently asked how much I care about a portion of their profits going to local charity. So that's the ad campaign now.

What percent of their profits go to charity? What is the charity?

A Google search says the Maritime company had 447mil net profit last year donated 22 mil to PEI.

EDIT: are their charitable donations going towards the gambling counseling programs? Is that it?

What island companies have you noticed with reasonable tipping expectations/practices? As well as the contrary?

For me, I was recently pleased with the cashier at Stratford Pizza Corner who skipped the tipping option for me. Might have been the owner, but still happy to see how him moving a piece of pizza 4 feet didn’t warrant a tip.

PSA: Telescopes can be borrowed from the library

With recent posts of someone going full Chicken Little over Jupiter and Venus showing up as blurry dot in their phone camera (while holding it in an unsteady hand), I wanted to remind everyone that both the UPEI Library and the Charlottetown Library both let Islanders borrow telescopes to explore the night sky.

UPEI: https://projects.upei.ca/astronomy/library-telescopes/

PEI Library: https://pei.ent.sirsidynix.net/client/en_GB/default/search/results?qu=Telescopes&qf=LOCATION%09Collection%091%3ATHINGS%09Library+of+Things&rt=false%7C%7C%7CTITLE%7C%7C%7CTitle

Both are offered with some star guides that help you take a tour of the night sky, and learn the world around you, especially if you never had an opportunity to learn the basics of astronomy when you were younger.

Hell, you can do it with a pair of 10 x 50 binoculars from Canadian Tire.

Even with recent exponential growth, PEI is still very lucky to have a few dark sites left. I've had a few nights of viewing over the summer in the east end of the Island that were just spectacular. Some old rich dude even built himself an observatory outside of town. This is definitely a sick life goal.

It is a crappy time to start with chilly evenings and nights, but you can do it with some dedication.

Pointing a telescope at a patch of the sky you think is black, only to see hundreds of stars is a humbling experience.

Renovation/ Painting business completely dead since End of October

As title states, for the 4 years we've been able to get through winter, but this year things are dead, I think our phone has run three times since the end of October. Is anyone else going through this? We have a good rep always on most social media platforms. Kind of worried for January to be honest. I'm just looking for answers if other small companies are going through the same as us. Thank you.

PEI, Canada - recorded *something* apparently out over the Northumberland Straight last night - considering all the news lately I thought I'd share my own experience - a UAP/UFO that I can't explain so here it is. 30, Nov, 2024

Prince Edward Island, Canada, facing South toward the Northumberland Straight roughly 10 kilometers distant. 11:00pm or so.

Having followed the news lately, and this week spotted my first ever UAP, I've been watching the sky more often and with my phone ready. Tonight I got this video.

I am filming through a window, against which my phone is pressed flat for the duration of the video. I focused onto the object and captured its movement, and to some degree its colours.

The object appears to be a 'plasma orb' type UAP. It begins the video in the distance, what I believe to be above the Northumberland Straight. As the video progresses, the UAP makes seemingly erratic movements while maintaining this distance.

Then, the UAP came closer all at once, and closer. Still making eratic movements. To me the nearer it got the less focused the footage actually became. (My one slight indulgence to speculate beyond the footage: when this drew nearer, I had the distinct feeling that it was moving to get a glimpse at whatever was observing it - me)

After a brief time of novement at this distance, the UAP blipped away in an instant and I stopped recording. I initially thought I had left more blank space at the end of the recording, after it disappeared, but when I reviewed the footage it seems to cut off while the UAP is still in frame. I suspect in my excitement I stopped recording just fast enough for it not to capture the blip out. I cannot be certain.

This sighting comes only hours after a sighting with photos that corroborated my previous (and first ever) sighting from earlier this week - that of my 'ring' UAP I've posted a out separately, also with a photo.

The world is witnessing something lately, and it turns out I'm one of the witnesses. This is my record, my testimony on the matter. Please ask any questions, as discourse must become disclosure.

The ongoing occurrence, worldwide, is undoubtedly a security concern that cannot be ignored. The public deserves to know what is going on in the skies above them, and the skies above their military bases responsible for our safety.

🖖

Weird thing going on in the sky?

https://youtube.com/shorts/TqjFCCRTuXM?si=ZPyk7JKjuXfMemjU

link because it has to be a video, happened out in york, and they stayed equal distance apart whole time. Brightness may need to be adjusted to see them

Looking for a specific chocolate

Bulk barn used to carry a certain kind of chocolate with sea salt in them. They're squares, no bigger than a loonie, flat on the bottom and somewhat round on top. There's no stuffing, just bits of salt mixed in.

A jar of these would make the perfect Christmas gift, I've search far and wide for them and I can't even find a picture for what I'm talking about. Last I had them from BB was about 2 years ago. Can anyone point me in any direction to find them?

$2.37 Million per year for PEI school lunches

The federal government is putting $7.1 million over 3 years to add to the PEI school lunch program. Despite the extra money Denny says the provincial government has no intention of decreasing fees. So, where is the extra money going?

Maple service

What have your experiences been using the online Maple medical help system?

Myself, I only need to have a prescription renewed. There's no clinic in Summerside and I don't have a doctor (still). So, Maple is the only way I have to renew a simple prescription. I only need to renew this every three months. I did so this morning, for the second time.

Thing is, for the second time I have had to pay in order to get this service, the site doesn't give you any choice. The first time, before taxes and some three months ago, I paid $60 before tax. This time, it was $80. And it's a monthly subscription fee! Lucky I saw that and cancelled that part. It's not highlighted or anything.

What do I pay these high taxes for? Oh yea, health care.

I'm also very unimpressed with how the site works technically. I could go on.

So folks, what have your experiences been?

Trudeau in PEI?

Noticed a lot of unmarked vehicles and some snipers downtown today. Assuming Trudeau is here. Anyone heard anything about this?

Edit:

Just found out he is here to make an announcement on the National School Food Program.
