i don’t know…. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m on Ozempic for the last 1.8 months. Started taking the gym seriously in August but lost no weight until the shots. I have lost 3kg/6.6lbs since starting on 9 Oct. However, this November has been, well, no changes. Maybe it’s too soon to do my head in about a lack of progress or maybe I just have to kick out sugar/pasta/rice altogether to see faster progress?

hormone imbalance?

so im currently 18 years old and over the past 3 years i’ve gained 30 pounds, i’ve rapidly got up to 180lbs but i’ve been maintaining 180 for about 2 years and just last year i randomly got 3 long stretch marks on my stomach and now they’re all over my stomach. i tried going to the doctors for my hormone levels to be checked but was told it would be unnecessary and just to get on the pill, meanwhile i have practically all the symptoms for pcos or just in general some sort of hormonal imbalance. i also mentioned my sister has had pcos. i know stretch marks like mine can be a sign of a hormone imbalance. i’ve tried losing weight and cutting back my calories but the scale number won’t budge. ive been on the pill which was awhile ago but it was only for a couple of months. could getting back on the pill help? i don’t know what else to do besides the pill because i currently don’t have insurance anymore.

Metformin?

Hi, has anyone had success losing weight on Metformin? I’m not insulin resistant and have been on it for nearly two months. My doctor said it can take three months to work and I’m getting impatient.

Myo-inso bladder symptoms?

Since I started taking it, I’ve had way more energy, but urinating has been horrific. It doesn’t burn or anything, but it’s very painful in a deep cramp way and I have a lot of blood in my urine. Is it related?

Patient involvement opportunity - study on PCOS and weight loss medications

Are you based in the UK with experience of you using or considering using semaglutide or a similar GLP-1 agonist medication for weight loss? Do you have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)?

There is currently limited knowledge on how people experience using GLP-1 medications like semaglutide for weight loss. There has been media and research attention towards their use in people with PCOS, who often find weight management challenging. We are currently looking for people with PCOS who have used or considered using these medications to support a study on weight loss medications in the NHS.

A panel of people with lived experience is needed to help guide the design, analysis, and dissemination of the study. This would involve attending meetings and providing feedback on written materials over a 3 year period, up to a total of about 8 hours. You will be paid £25/hour. We will be flexible around you, and you are free to take part to whatever extent works for you.

If you are interested, please contact Sabrina Keating directly on Sabrina.keating@phc.ox.ac.uk with a brief summary of your relevant background.

Tired of This :'(

I was referred to as a bigger girl today (5'6"; 170 lbs, 22F). The person that said it genuinely did not come from a bad place, but hearing that stuck with me more than it should have. I was obese throughout childhood & teen hood, and lost 40 pounds during COVID. Also, as someone that comes from a POC culture where the women are curvier, it has been a challenge to fit into American beauty standards my whole life. Due to the pressures of graduating undergrad in 3 years and now being in an accelerated master's program, I have gained 75% of the weight back and it is incredibly frustrating that as I was doing my best to balance school with a full social life, the weight just kept coming back. I was just trying to live life and I got fatter.

I eat cleaner than most, with salads dominating most of my diet, and do my best to get 10,000 steps in every day, but it is so frustrating that after years of working on my mental and physical health, my weight is still a consistent issue. It just really sucks that as someone that has heard countless things about their weight their whole life and has done so much work to overcome it, it's still somehow an issue. I have achieved a BA in Economics, consistently work to be a good person, and am dealing with my brother struggling with active addiction, but somehow it always comes back to my weight and what I look like.

Also, pretty privilege cannot be denied - I see it in front of my eyes and it really sucks to not feel included, especially when everyone says you're the most beautiful when you're young. I'm young and I feel like a sack of shit lol. I feel like anything I do to look cute with makeup or hair is simply hidden by the fact that I carry a lot of fat on my body. I'm just frustrated that I even allow this to impact my mental health so much, but it is sad when I look in the mirror and am upset by what I see, day after day, year after year. I also find it incredibly frustrating that I know I am a good, kind, likable person, but that often gets hidden by my weight. I want to be perceived as attractive for my face, and it's shitty being young because it feels like all the men around me are so attracted to thin women and verbally idolize them. I feel like I'm going crazy. Just venting into the void, hoping someone can relate.

Thank you for this group <3 Your posts are always appreciated.

Period weight gain/general diet questions/advice

Hello! I am almost 19, and got diagnosed with PCOS (officially) in July of this year after pushing my GP about it. I am seeing an Endo for the first time in January, but have a few questions as I am feeling particularly discouraged this week. I have a really good support system at home, I work out a lot (1-2 hours a day most days, with weight training and loads of walking as that is what works best for me). I also do spin classes, weighted hoopla-hooping, and yoga as well!

I was on ozempic for two months, and while it really helped I did in’t take it for any longer because I couldn’t afford it (I had heard bad things about other medications but are open to more info on them!). I am gluten free but just don’t eat much bread or pasta anymore, but do have crackers, prefer to eat salads most of the time, try to get more protein in, and take a lot of supplements and vitamins (I’ll include a list below). I eat tons of veg, not too much fruit, and avoid processed sugars like the plague. My diet is a mix of like keto stuff, gluten free, and some vegan stuff. I drink loads of water, and I’m very hydrated. I also try to avoid dairy, but let myself have it sometimes. I drink 2-3 cups of spearmint tea a day. Oh I also eat nuts and seeds as well! -Magnesium -D3+K2 -zinc -Vitamin c, b -ningxia -ginseng -omega 3-6-9 -black seed oil -innositol -L-theanine

My problem is is that I start getting period-related water retention DIRECTLY after ovulation, and then bloating in the week leading up to my period (my cycle is fairly regular as I was previously on the pill, so it’s about 30 days). This is very frustrating, as I feel like it basically restarts my progress a bit each month, like two steps forward one step back kind of thing. I am currently 201 pounds (with the bloating), but was 196 before that. I started consistently trying to lose weight in April with the help of my mom, and started at 219 pounds. I didn’t bloat as much last month, but this month is different and I obviously gained more this month. My self appointed goal was to get my weight to 190 for new years (i made this goal in April), and I’m worried this water retention and bloating will set me back. Does anybody have any advice for me in general, and to help me get to my goal this month? I’m in uni and in my exam period now, so even with studying, I have much more time on my hands.

If you think I am on the right track, please do let me know because I feel very lost atm. I’m like 90% sure I am, but mentally the seeds of self-doubt are creeping in. Nobody in my family has this, and while we are educated on it as much as we can be, it’s nice to a have a community to look towards. Thank you all so much for anything you can give me ❤️

Edit: I have been stressed lately and think that maybe my body is taking on more of the stress than my brain

Appetite suppressants?

Hi girls, I’m 5’3 and weigh 78kg, which I’m absolutely ashamed of. Been trying to lose the 20kg I gained when I got pregnant 5 years ago ever since. I have bad anxiety and depression, and I’m a SAHM so I rarely get out of the house which leads to me eating my feelings and then hating myself.

I recently started strength training and doing cardio everyday. But I can’t seem to shake the munchies! I could come back from gym and eat an elephant! And I feel like I’m always hungry, making it really hard not to snack on crap.

I read about L Carnitine and matcha tea working to suppress appetite and was wondering if anyone has tried it out? I also don’t take protein supplements yet, I wonder if I took them it would help the constant hunger.

I’m not in a country where GLP1s are available but when I read about it ‘quieting food noise’ it hit me like a brick…. Food noise is exactly wheat describes it! Like eat this eat that eat something sweet until I just want to cover my ears and scream! Anyone else relate? Just to let me know I’m not going crazy!

Insulin Resistance?

Hi all! I'm attempting (yet again) to start my weight loss journey and am considering reaching out to my doctor to see if I have insulin resistance. From my last labs, my fasting A1C is 5.5 and blood sugar was 108. Does that alone mean I'm not insulin resistant?

However, my cholesterol is poor, my blood pressure is high, I have been missing periods, developing facial and body hair and skin tags. I had a transvaginal ultrasound which found follicles present but they told me it doesn't necessarily mean I have PCOS. I also have (always) had sleep apnea but read that it can be a factor which leads to insulin resistance. My sleep schedule has become worse. I'm suffering from insomnia these days. I'm at a loss and am confused. I know something does not feel right, but I don't know what to advocate for.

I just want to know if I'm going to look crazy to ask my doctor to look into my situation again and see if I could possibly be insulin resistant. They seem to think nothing is wrong with me and that I just need to start exercising. It's always been a struggle to lose weight and I've been slowly adding on lbs every year. I'm tired.

Multivitamins

Hey Cysters!

I’m on the lookout for a better multivitamin. I’ve had pcos for about 20 years and have managed well, with stuff but I think I want to change it up a bit. Do you ladies have any recommendation on multivitamins that have helped you?

How do I prevent hairfall??

I got diagonised with pcos and 14 and I'm 17 now. For the past 2 yrs i've had horrible hairloss and irregular cycles and recently the hairloss is kinda noticible. My gyno just told me to lse weight and that this is a part of pcos. I've heard minoxidil promotes hairgrowth but the effects stop after you stop using it. I'm only 17 so I don't really wanna try this. Does anyone have any other alternative? Please i'm freaking out😭😭

Ideally amount of protein (grams), veggies (grams), and carbs (grams) daily for 1200 daily diet?

What are the ratios one shouldn't aim for especially with PCOS? Anything would help.

Need some advice

I recently got diagnosed with PCOS (lack of ovulation/period). I'm 5 5 and currently weight 76kgs. I know I'm overweight, I've been regularly exercising since april 24 but it hasn't helped so recently been cutting down on sugars switch to brown bread/rice etc. I'm not losing weight but I know I'm getting fitter. But at the same time I can feel the facial hair getting thicker (recently had laser) and I'm starting to feel like the hair on my head is thinning. I'm new to this weight lose journey and I'm hoping it'll get better down the line but is there anything you do to help with the hair loss and facial hair issues. Or anything you could recommend to help with faster weight loss. I should mentioned the only meds I've been put on have been metformin 500mg to help with ovulation.

I lost 23 pounds!!

Hi I'm really happy with how my progress has been! My boyfriend helped me realize that my body REALLY doesn't like sugar. Or can digest ir well, and we believed I've been storing a lot of sugar as fat. So I've been doing fasting (eating two times a day at certain times) and cut down high sugary things like soda and snacks and !! It's been working great. 🥹 I think it's been two months since I've started doing this so im real happy! I haven't noticed any changes to my pcos though, but mines not too severe so that could do it. i do feel better and less shitty on the diet however.

Anyone have initial weight gain on GLP-1?

Apparently 25% of people gain weight on semaglutide at the starting dose of .25 and .5 according the the clinical trials. It figures of course that this would be me, despite eating less and better. Did this happen to you? Please tell me if was followed by weight loss eventually. I feel like giving up.

What improved for you when you switched from Semaglutide/Ozempic to Tirzepatide/Wegovy?

Hi there everyone, so I've been on Semaglutide for 3 months and actually tolerated it pretty well until recently. I experience what feels like low blood sugar and intense cravings for food, fatigue and edema. I have tried lowering the dose but it doesn't seem to matter and my doctor suggested I switch to Tirzepatide. I've heard many have better success on this med but I am wanting to know from other PCOS girlies what changes you have specifically noticed when you switched and/oe how it has helped you. I am a little apprehensive to switch when I'm just starting a new job that is very physically demanding and being tired as I adjust or that I might experience the low blood sugar again for some reason. Whatever your experience may be, please share. Every little detail helps me to prepare in terms of what to expect and in making an educated decision. I have literally gotten my life back being on GLP-1s for several reasons but am hoping this switch might be optimal for me to alleviate my PCOS symptoms further. Anyways, your experience is deeply appreciated and encouraged and I pray every girl reading this currently going through or on their healing journey with PCOS is reminded how wonderful you are and that all progress no matter how small is still progress. Sending you all love 🫶🏻💕🤗

40 pounds down despite horrible mental health issues!

I’m so proud of myself as I have now lost officially 40 pounds! Feel a bit anxious posting these pics as I am still not satisfied lol, but I’m getting close to my goal weight. I still have to work on my body fat percentage. I have PCOS, Graves disease(stable now), had insulin resistance(stable now), severe depression and and anxiety, ADHD. A whole laundry list, basically lol. It was so so hard for me to lose weight in the past and I can’t believe I got this far despite my mental health!!! The mental part was and is the toughest. Hope this inspires some people and show you that despite all your challenges, you and your health are worth it!! ❤️ I tried losing weight for a whole year straight and just could not until I got diagnoses and started working on my health conditions. I started at 72 KG(158 lbs?) and am as of today 53.5 KG(118 lbs). My goal is 110 lbs but my actual most important goal is lowering my body fat %. In the latest picture I was a bit heavier, like 57 KG. I should take some more recent pics!

Gym girlies, do you have a hard time losing weight?

I feel like i can't lose any weight even at a deficit. I workout 5 times a week and do weights and cardio twice a week. Do I have to eat pure greens and quit sugar completely to lose weight? :( it's so discouraging that I've been working out for 2 years and I've gained 20 pounds.

I might be just another lady crying

Age 28, height 165cm. I was 212lbs in June this year. This is the heaviest i have been. I would cry every time i look deep into the mirror, at my swollen moon face, and my hormonal belly. I look 7 months pregnant. And i have never been pregnant. I thought to myself this is it, i am not letting it destroy my mental health anymore, and i start weight lifting, slow weighted workouts, with portion control and mindful grocery shopping. Started ovasitol, omega 3 supplements, curcuma, CoQ10, Berberine. I don’t have a sweet tooth, and I don’t drink carbonated drinks at all. I don’t drink, I don’t smoke. I did everything i could, i was sooo motivated! But what makes me cry is that i only lost 6lbs in six whole months! 😭 SIX MONTHS LATER I AM STILL 206lbs. I am sooo fucking tired of this all. I am having my mental breakdowns again, and i might indulge in binge eating! I am so frustrated and stressed out! All motivation has gone down the drain!

Metformin didn't work

Disclaimer : I don't have PCOS. Apologies for posting my concern here since I don't have PCOS.

I'm 5'1, 27 years old, currently at 63.5 and I used to be 45kgs about 2.5 years ago, gained a lot of weight while being in a toxic job, suffered through anxiety attacks and what not. I'm currently in a much better job (grateful)

I gained a lot while at that job, emotionally ate a lot. But I've been trying to lose weight, counting calories and portions, trying to cut carbs. Walking 10-15k steps a day, doing HIIT at home. Nothing seemed to work to I started Metformin (extended release) at 500mg, twice a day. For about three weeks nothing happened, then I bumped it upto 1500mg a day (500 in the morning and 1000 at night), still nothing happened, then recently for about two and a half weeks I bumped it upto 2000mg a day, still nothing. All while counting calories, eating clean, working out (except for my period otherwise I get painful cramps) and walking 10k steps a day. Nothing seems to work and now I'm demotivated.

Need advice for weight loss pause

Hi! I’m looking for any advice for my weight loss journey right now because I’m starting to get really confused and discouraged.

I was losing weight at a really good rate for the first few weeks, I ended up losing 15 pounds. Then I hit a pause a few weeks ago and I haven’t been able to lose anything since. I just keep going up and down within the same 2 pound range, over and over again. I got excited last week because one weigh-in showed a pound decrease, but then every single weigh-in after that has been back up to that same 2 pound range.

I’ve watched lots of videos on weight loss plateaus and I’ve tried a few of the different suggestions. I’ve tried just sticking to my original plan to wait it out, I’ve tried giving myself a few days at maintenance calories and I’ve tried decreasing my calories.

I was eating 1800 calories before when I was losing the weight, but now I’m eating 1600 calories per day. I don’t eat sugar most days, I diligently track calories with my kitchen scale, I’ve been hitting/exceeding 100 grams of protein the past few days, I walk 10k steps daily, I take supplements (berberine, inositol, fiber capsules, probiotic, vitamins) and I intermittent fast in a 16:8 most days.

Does anyone else have any words of wisdom or suggestions on this? I have 60 more pounds to lose and the lack of progress this month is just really upsetting me. I had previously lost 30 pounds last year and then unfortunately gained 36 back, after a traumatic event that horribly impacted my nervous system for several months. I am wondering if maybe my body is just trying to catch up from all the changes and I just have to keep things the same and wait it out? For reference, I’m 27 years old with SW 206 lbs, CW 192 lbs and GW 130 lbs.

Hi, need guidance

Hello, Little background: I'm 26 F diagnosed a month ago with PCOS. 5'7 and 93kgs. My primary complain was that I was getting these weird sleep episodes that I'd blackout pass out in the middle of the day And the blood sugar levels would be dangerously low (this would be post lunch). My HBA1C is normal but my free insulin is quite high. In the midst of it all, I'm also officially diagnosed with PCOS. I know the best thing is for me to lose weight so I'm looking for exercise ideas. I'm already mindful about my eating habits but still struggling to lose the weight. Goal weight is 75 kgs.

Just binged :/

I’ve been doing so good, down 10 pounds this week I was craving salt and sugar excessively. Today I had chips, bulgur and a bagel. I told myself no carbs until my upcoming event. I just was feeling so confident and eating so well but now I can’t stop thinking about food.
