Paperfolks is dedicated to drawings, paintings and illustrations that accurately depict the daily lives of our ancestors in the towns and villages of the pre-industrial era.

Paperfolks: illustrations depicting the everyday life of peasants, townspeople and lords in the pre-industrial era (from the dawn of man up until the 19th century). If you enjoy drawings and historical reconstructions that accurately portray the lives of our ancestors, feel free to come on board.

  • Civility rule: Be courteous to others. Any post or comment that puts down anyone for any reason will result in an immediate and permanent ban.

  • Relevance rule: Only post content related to this subreddit's definition of Paperfolks: historically accurate illustrations. A beautiful artwork is not necessarily relevant in the context of Paperfolks. Here's a rule of thumb: on this sub we enjoy art for history's sake, not art for art's sake.

  • Repost rule: A repost may only be allowed if the original post has fewer than 50 upvotes and was submitted at least 6 months ago.

This is the sister-subreddit of /r/papertowns.

Note: Fictional illustrations are not allowed (i.e. no dragons).

The houses that stood atop the Pont Notre-Dame, Paris, built in the beginning of the 16th century. The houses were razed for sanitary purposes and because of the danger the structures caused to the bridge's stability.
