Otter on a mission

There’s an otter den somewhere nearby and this otter mom uses our driveway every year to get to it.

Is this an otter?!

So early this morning something tripped my camera off, sadly it has a slight delay so most of its body isn’t shown. I wondered if it would be a mink or fisher, or muskrat, but the tail and elbow joint looks more otter like, we do have a creek out front, in which this animal is heading towards in the footage. And I live in central/northern Ontario, so the location is right too. What do you guys think???

A poem by Seamys Heeney

The Otter

When you plunged The light of Tuscany wavered And swung through the pool From top to bottom.

I loved your wet head and smashing crawl, Your fine swimmer’s back and shoulders Surfacing and surfacing again This year and every year since.

I sat dry-throated on the warm stones. You were beyond me. The mellowed clarities, the grape-deep air Thinned and disappointed.

Thank God for the slow loadening, When I hold you now We are close and deep As the atmosphere on water.

My two hands are plumbed water. You are my palpable, lithe Otter of memory In the pool of the moment,

Turning to swim on your back, Each silent, thigh-shaking kick Re-tilting the light, Heaving the cool at your neck.

And suddenly you’re out, Back again, intent as ever, Heavy and frisky in your freshened pelt, Printing the stones.

A few years back, a group of six otters was spotted on the island of Tawi-Tawi with many scientists believing that it is an entirely new species of otters.

It's amazing to see how sea otters manage to use things like rocks as tools to open up shellfish.
