Oceanside or Rockaway Beach?

Hello! I am planning a trip to the Oregon coast for June of 2025. Looking at some options for Airbnb’s, I’ve found one in Oceanside and one in Rockaway Beach that I like. Any input on which one you all would choose? I know they’re not very far apart, so would there be anything that would make one more favorable than the other? Or any other coastal town you all would recommend over Oceanside and Rockaway Beach? Thanks so much :)

We should probably install wind turbines.

Just sayin'.

Help me with a project please!

I'm a photographer trying to put a collage together for Lum's Toyota and their community involvement. I'm relatively new to the area and saw they donated the Tundra that Astoria Parks uses at the Column which sparked this project.

Do you know any other parks, area attractions or non-profits or people that they've supported?

Good Beaches?

I want to treat myself to a trip to the coast, but what i really really want is a beach where you can find really cool shells and rocks and glass! I would love some cool hidden spots or any recommendations would be so appreciated:)

Not sure how I got this photo - looks like a moonlight photo. Taken on my cell phone.

Cat Lick Park

I always stop by Cat Lick Park when in the area. I’ve never seen a weirder name for a park!

Apparently it got its name because city and parks volunteers were working in the area. They came across this rock and rather than deciding to remove it, it was suggested to cover the rock with moss to be more visually pleasing. It was suggested to pour buttermilk over the rock to promote moss growth. It was said by someone in the city discussion that if buttermilk was poured over the rock you’ll have every cat in the neighborhood licking it. This created its name, and it stuck.

It was made by a group called ‘the old stoners’ and apparently they have done quite a bit of work on the coast.

Very interesting!!!!!

Places to watch a game with minors?

We are going to be in Newport the day of the Big10 Championship game. My hubs and tween son want to make sure they can watch it. Is there someplace you can watch football games if you are a minor?

Plumbers of the coast, how big of an issue is sand clogging p traps and other drains? As an inland plumber everytime I visit hotels on the coast it's all I can think about

Discussion

I know it’s beautiful, unique, freeing But I wanted to get local’s input on what life feels like to them on the Oregon coast.

I was born on the gulf coast, raised in the midwest, and spent time on the beaches of Maine. All of these places have their own captivating qualities.

When I visited the west coast for the first time over a year ago, I experienced feelings I’d never ever felt before. Like seeing a new color for the first time. It was unbelievable. I haven’t been the same ever since.

And even though that rocky cliffside coastline in Maine was epic, and the lighthouses beautiful, and the trees tall and in those dark woods a terrifying curiosity- there was a sense of never being too far removed from social infrastructure and centuries old tradition.

And on that Houston beach where I was born, a sense of hospitality ripe with people and good nature. Until night when the voodoo mist covers the land and the train tracks scream with terror in the night and the deathly belief ghosts are swarming in the walls of the buildings around you like in New Orleans.

But on that Oregon coast… something new… unexplainable. Freeing is the best word I can think of… renewing. A sense of total wilderness but not necessarily frightening beyond the fates awaiting in beach or bush. A sense of tranquility, peace, Heaven.

Oh My God… I don’t know that I’m cursed or blessed to have been there.

King tide forecast

Question, is there a site that provides forecast when storms and king tide might interact to create the big breakers? Kinda like storm chasing. Thanks✌️
