The quintessential Bengali “dale bora” comes in many forms, some make it with masoor dal (red lentils), some with motor dal (bengali split peas) and some with cholar dal ( yellow split peas). Every Bengali household perhaps, has it's own distinct recipe.
My recipe uses masoor dal and is a pleasure to have during the hot summer months!
Daler Bora is a great, no-fuss recipe for hot summer months. It perfectly pairs with simple dal and the most favourite combination for Bengali's is with 'panta bhat’.
On days when you do not feel like having anything too spicy or rich, when the sun outside simply makes it difficult to enjoy any food, a basic meal of rice, dal and daler bora will make your day! It does for me every. single. time.

Hello, everyone!
My husband and I live in a part of the US that's going to get hit with a polar vortex this coming week. Cold weather is one of our favorite excuses for making big, hearty meals, but we're also trying to incorporate more vegetables into our diets. I've found that we're more likely to eat vegetables when they're prepared as a one pot meal, but while I love chana masala and root vegetable curry, I would like to branch out a bit. What are some of your favorite vegetarian one pot meals? We're open to cuisines from around the world; the only constraint would be access to ingredients that aren't common in the Midwest. If you've got some ideas that work well in crock pots or multicookers, so much the better! Thanks so much for your help!
A creamy dal recipe made easy in an instant pot. Dal makhani or Dal Makhni is a recipe originating from North India. The primary ingredients are whole black lentils, red kidney beans, butter and cream. The dish gets its richness from the use of cream and butter, and the traditional way of simmering the dal in a large pot for hours. And we can make it in an Instant Pot, as in today’s world who has the time to boil dal in a pot for hours.
So we make use of the Instant Pot!

Please review the rules. There were some minor updates and rewording.
The biggest change is we are now requiring a text recipe written in the comments. This aids in accessibility and weeding out spam. You are still welcome to share links and videos as long as they have an accompanying text recipe in comments
So I am thinking of making it a rule that posts are required to have a text recipe written in the comments. The reason for this is accessibility and ease of use for reddit. Not everyone can watch videos or access certain sites.
What are the community thoughts?
I just wanted to introduce myself and u/fractalfrog as the new mods. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns! My only change planned is to edit the rules for clarity. Otherwise just keeping on top of spam.
Hello friends!
Hope everyone is doing well and staying safe. I wanted to make a post addressing my absence and general lack of care surrounding this sub. Basically, as I am sure the same goes for many of you, this year has sucked ass for me. My mental health has been shitty and I am having a lot of ups and downs, and this sub just hasn't been at the top of my priority list.
I wanted to thank everyone who has contributed over the last year, the recipes everyone shares are wonderful and everyone here is so kind to each other, it's really great to see. Also, if anyone is interested in helping to mod this sub, let me know? I'd be happy for the help, but if not, anyone can feel free to tag me in the comments of a post if I seem to be neglecting it.
One more thing...is anyone watching Off Script with Sohla? Her one pot meals are looking incredible.
