OBS heavy CPU/GPU utilization and crashing

This is ridiculous, even while OBS is idle, it is so resource intensive that it causes my laptop to overheat &/or the game play to go to 0 fps. When I'm using ShareX, this never happens, is there any reason why OBS needs a super computer just to record a web browser and audio ?

Question about VBR bitrate

I'm currently using the VBR bitrate format for my recordings, since I heard it helps when there's alot of movements on screen. I currently use Bitrate: 2050 and Max Bitrate: 255000 . Should my bitrate be lower compared to my max bitrate. P.S my videos still get pixelated alot when there's movement on screen.

Help with 4k recording in OBS Ryzen 9 7950x and an RX 7900 XTX

When I try selecting my GPU to record a 4k video, the graphics look fine when I am recording, but after watching the video, they look like a pile of dog crap. Any suggested settings?

This is my build: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Tiffany_GreenEyes/saved/s33xf7

Muffled audio only on stream and in recordings

The audio sounds good on my end but for the viewers it sounds muffled/echoey BUT the weirdest thing it only happens Hades (from what I've tested).

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2125183526?t=02h11m31s

Here's a VOD with a timestamp where it's really noticeable. You can also go back in VOD to the beginning of the stream when I was playing Honkai Star Rail where this didn't occur.

What is the CQP to Mb/s conversion rate? I'm trying to achieve 80-100mb/s what CQP level is that?

I searched it up, only get results explaining what CQP is, or what the 'best' CQP settings are.

Frequent dropped frames due to network instability

Not sure if the title properly describes my problem, but the issue i've been running into for a while now is my stream randomly drops ALOT of frames at once and doesn't recover, even if i reduce bitrate. The only thing that seems to fix it is restarting OBS; after I do that, even if it's within the span of a few seconds, everything is fine.

I don't know what to do to fix this, and I also don't want to have to keep resetting my stream every time this happens. I'm making this post after this happened two streams in a row back to back, but this issue has been happening for months now.

OBS not reading capture card unless reset

Basically for a while now whenever using my capture card for obs, it wont get any visual or audio from it, but unplugging it and plugging back in, as well as remaking the source for it will fix the problem. It's not a huge issue because that only takes like 20 seconds to do, but still very annoying to do every time. I only have to do this whenever opening obs for the first time on my computer as well, as leaving it on will have it work until I turn my pc off. If it matters I use a mirabox capture card, thanks!

Dual PC 1440p Nvenc Settings?

Hello everyone. I apologize in advance for not being able to find concrete info on this.. But I have exhausted myself to no end researching and testing. I'm hoping someone can provide me up to date info on this.

Equipment/Hardware:

  • Gaming Monitor - 1440p 165hz.
  • i5 11600k
  • 32gb ram
  • rtx 2080ti
  • Elgato HD60X Capture Card

Stream PC:

  • 27" Philips 1080p
  • Ryzen 5 1600
  • 16gb ram
  • GTX 1660 Supe

Internet - 500 down / 150 up

Objective: Stream mainly FPS / Fast paced games in 720p60fps as I am not even affiliate yet.

What settings should I be after when trying to downscale 1440p to 720p60fps? From Step 1 to last. Starting with the best way to setup the capture card.. Mirrored? Extended then projected with open on Gaming PC? What resolution should I be setting the capture card source in obs? I've read so many mixed things and after extensive testing I don't understand what I could possibly be doing wrong.

Base Canvas vs Output? Best bitrate? (6k is the cap.. Some say it isn't..) Source resolutions? P1-P7, which makes sense with my setup?

The issue I'm having is that my testings seem far blurrier then what I've seen others achieve doing 720p playing Apex Legends, for example.

All insight and settings suggestions with links to examples of stream quality is welcomed please!

Thanks!

output file=mkv. video settings=30fps. No visuals being recorded. Only audio. Not interested in changing output file to audio file. Question: will the 30fps video settings adversely impact quality of audio recording in mkv output file?

Application Audio Capture levels too low

Recently I wanted to get back into streaming and recording things, but I've noticed that while none of my settings themselves have changed, the audio levels for Application Audio Capture are significantly lower than they used to be. My League of Legends source, for example, is at normal volume and has no filters but it's only hitting -30dB and I can barely hear it on playback.

What's going on, and how do I fix this?

Multiple RTMP outputs - ability to downscale?

Hi everyone!

So my main screen is an ultrawide 3840x1600.

My aim is to stream to youtube at 2560x1440 and to twitch at 1920x1080.

So, I looked at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJWCFQ2K52w for OBS setup without using restream or any third party.

Here are actions taken:

  • So first I setup the resolution of the game to 2560x1440.
  • Then I setup OBS to stream directly to youtube, at a high bitrate, and at resolution 2560x1440.
  • Then I'm using the multiple RTMP outputs to add twitch, and set output to 1920x1080.

Question here is, will the plugin downscale the OBS scene efficiently, or will it have issues? What would otherwise be best approach to this?

I know that another method would be to play at 1920x1080 then upscale to 2560x1440 for youtube, but then the game looks a bit crap on my screen lol, I'd rather play at 2560x1440 if possible.

Bitrate issue

What is the best bitrate option for streaming I've been using 4500 as my default as 10000 seems to drop to much 4500 has been running streams fine but out of nowhere it started keeping me in the red causing premature stream ends

I'm hoping its just internet but if not please let me know and thank you

Using a drum pad to switch scenes in OBS

I was watching a video just a few moments ago of Neil Peart playing a drum solo and it got me to thinking... He's using a pad to change sounds and whatnot I believe. I know during his drum solo when he's playing the Buddy Rich One O'clock Jump at the end of his solo, he's using a pad to trigger the song to play. And I believe I remember reading somewhere that during the middle of One O'clock Jump, he has to switch to a new track because the length of that track would cause it to start fading half way through it. So he is actually playing 2 separate recordings of it and he's triggering the second track with a pad. So, he hits a pad when the first section is completed and it immediately starts the second half of the song un-noticibly. Which I thought was pretty cool that he had to do that.

So, that got me to wondering, is it possible to use an electronic drum pad while I'm playing drums, to change scenes? So, basically, while I'm playing, I can hit a pad on the sample pad to switch to a different scene in OBS. If that could work, I think that would be an awesome way to switch scenes. Just by smacking a par rather than having to stop playing altogether with one hand while you tap a button on a a keyboard or on something like a Stream Deck.

So, I've got this Alesis SamplePad 4 thing that I've never had a use for (it was a gift many years ago from my wife back when I was in a hiatus from playing drums). Anyway, this thing has been sitting on a shelf and I was wondering if it would be possible to setup this pad (which has 4 pads) so I could tap on a certain pad and make OBS change scenes for me. So, pad one could switch to the previous scene and pad 2 could switch to the next scene. Pads 3 and 4 could be special scenes to switch to while I'm playing.

I think that would be pretty cool if I could use that Sample Pad for switching scenes while I'm playing.

So, I guess my question is, will this drum pad be able to switch scenes in OBS?

MACOS Can't launch OBS with message Failed to initialize video. Your GPU may not be supported, or your graphics drivers may need to be updated.

OBS was working fine on my machine (Apple M2 Pro / macOS Sonoma). All of a sudden after a crash, it won't load again. I get a screen error message that says:
Failed to initialize video. Your GPU may not be supported, or your graphics drivers may need to be updated.

I uninstalled OBS using appCleaner and reinstalled it (version 30.1.2 ) with no avail.
I reinstalled Sonoma (macOS Recovery), nothing changed.
I am getting crazy as I have to perform live next week and I can't find a reason ....
Thank you

found solution to clicking sounds

i recently had trouble with my recording picking up a random clicking every few seconds a very high pitch one at thought i checked my audio drivers they were good obs was up to date switch the 48hrtz to 44 nothing change it wasn't until i got a new pc recently where i was still picking up the sound. I found out where the problem was coming from i own the razer blakcshark headphones and the usb card that comes with it was producing the random clicking sounds my best guess it was creating a digital clicking sound to my computer and the software was picking it up as my game audio i simply disconnected and used the audio jack on my pc instead hopfully this helps anybody out there with a similar problem

Is there a way I can make it look like I'm in someone else's camera in a virtual meeting using OBS

I kinda want to make a joke when I put my face in someone's background but I'm not sure if it's even possible with OBS. It would require to record someone's video feed, add my camera into it then output it to the virtual meeting.

Any idea?

Clicking sound when using game audio capture

For a few weeks now I've been having some clicking sounds every few seconds when I use the application audio capture.

I've tried many troubleshooting but nothing seems to work for me, I've tried changing the buffer, sample rate, re-installing OBS etc etc.. Using the logs I found some problems but none of them resolved the issue.

I recently just tried installing a plugin to capture audio and it still does the clicking sounds...

I'm on the verge of insanity pls help.

Here's a log if it can help !
https://obsproject.com/logs/CvKbdiI8bXPbcSng

Update : Another person found the solution on Reddit (thanks a lot I would have gone crazy). I have Razer headphones and it came with a usb card that you plug as a usb on your computer, turns out it was causing the clicking on OBS. I removed the card and plugged the headphones with the jack and the clicking was gone instantly.

Deckboard don't connect with OBS

So I used this app https://deckboard.app/ and my old phone as some streamdeck alternative, worked really well if you don't demand very complex stuff.

But since few updates (obs) from now it refuse to even try connect with OBS. No error, nothing. Checked ports, tried find anything about this problem. Nothing. Someone know what or how I can fix it?

AV1 is worse than HEVC at the same bitrate

Hey, everybody! I have a question like this...

I want to stream on YouTube with av1 codec, but after small comparative tests revealed that the quality is inferior to HEVC codec.

The same resolution and bitrate, but the quality of the picture with AV1 is worse, can anyone explain to me why?

1440p resolution

13000 bitrate

RTX 4070 Super

Driving me nuts . . .

I've been trying to test some OBS setups but I keep running into the same problem. My S21 looks fine when using the camera to take photos or videos but looks like blurry crap when using it on OSB. The secondary frame, whether in the background or foreground, looks clear and crisp at 1080P resolution. My camera, the primary frame, always looks like it's set a 480P. Any ideas what's going on?

PC Problem?

I have a RTX 3060 TI with an I7-12700KF and wanted to record in 4k60 on OBS but the gameplay just completely lags once I hit record. Was wondering if anyone knows what I need to upgrade to capture 4k60 gameplay since I really only play story games (GOW, The Last of Us,ETC)

Stream with webcam overlay and then separate it for premier pro editing

Basically I’m using one to stream games and I have the webcam overlayed on it. I’m recording and streaming at the same time. Is there a way I can stream with the overlay and have it record the game and stream separately or even be able to export them separately or do I upload my resolution on obs so I can record both and then stream on a different platform?

Encoding overload issue

I have a really bad delay with my microphone that i tried fixing through the hardware I was using. I use a condenser mic through a mixer plugged into an audio interface and then usb b into the computer. at first i used a ts to usb cable to get audio from the mixer to the computer and I thought that was the issue, but i switched to this audio interface and it fixed a lot of delay issues i would run into with other programs like DAW for music, but with obs the problem stayed. I was able to record my video and microphone and found out the microphone is delayed 200ms. I added a -200ms offset to the microphone input on obs and everytime i record. It instantly says encoding overload and the entire recording is messed up. I tried lowering a ton of the video settings and the issue stayed. I reverted the change to the offest and put the max settings for recording video and there were 0 issues other than the fact that the delay is pretty bad. I was also checking task manager while recording and nothing was getting past 40% usage. I also havent tried offsetting everything else by 200ms bc i think it would have the same effect and I also havent found a way to offset video. I mainly want to get rid of the delay bc I stream. I know if i ever record I can fix the delay in post, but i mainly get content from streaming and then downloading the stream to then edit, but i cant fix the delay issue after the stream bc they merge all the audio.

adjusting element brightness to average screen brightness

Hello,

I am have two speaking icons in the bottom of my scene, but when the game i am playing is dark, they appear very bright and can be a little distracting.

I am wanting to know if there is a way for obs to recognize the average brightness of the screen and adjust the brightness of the icons so the difference in brightness isn't as jarring.

thanks for any help!
