Does anyone know why Papa spiros is closing? I love going there, the family was so nice and it seemed very busy every time I went
Hey Oak Parkers!
I grew up in Oak Park, my family and I live in San Francisco and are potentially moving back. My kids are 10 & 8, we would be in Holmes/Brooks zone. Any folks with kids in middle school, especially Brooks? My middle school experience at Brooks was not great but was also literal decades ago. Thanks!
I've just recently moved to Oak Park and was wondering if there were any coffee shops or other spots good for reading.
just an FYI - if your polling place on November 5 is the OP Library: election hours are 6am-7pm. I had a very difficult time finding this information on the website so ended up reaching out to the Oak Park Village clerk and confirmed the library voting time.
Is there anywhere in Oak Park where I can buy the New York Times in print?
Dear Fellow Oak Park Residents,
I am looking for a covered parking around Blue Line Station (Harrison, Wesley, S Euclid, Clarence Ave). If you are planning to rent your available parking space, please DM me. Thanks and I appreciate your help.
I moved here last year but I work overnight downtown so its been hard to get out and meet people. I love going on hikes and swimming! I am also a big dork and enjoy gaming and MTG. Also would love to play a TTRPG with some good peeps! If anyone has any good recommendations on where to meet like minded folk or just wants to hang out, lmk! Thanks!
Hi! My wife and I will be moving to Oak Park next week and are in need of a weekly dog walker for our 4 year old pug. Does anyone have any recommendations we should consider?
Hello! My spouse and I are moving to Oak Park soon and I was wondering if anyone had good recommendations for GP/family medicine doctors and dentists in the Oak Park area?
I know it's over 40 years ago But this still hits hard https://www.chicagomag.com/chicago-magazine/september-2024/the-nazi-of-oak-park/
Hey all - my wife, daughter, and I currently live on the far northwest side of Chicago and are planning on moving to Oak Park next year. As we prepare to sell our place and move, we've been checking out different parts of OP to try to nail down where we ultimately would like to land. We took our daughter to Barrie Park over the weekend and I have a couple of questions about the area:
We were at Barrie Park at about 6pm on Sunday and it was relatively busy. One thing that struck me as kind of odd was that there were a mix of kids, ranging in age from toddler to probably early teen, and then there was a group of adults, who I assume were parents of some of the kids, who were openly drinking and smoking weed on the playground. They weren't bothering anyone but it just struck me as weird and, frankly, inappropriate, seeing that they were at a playground filled with young children. My question - is this the norm or did we just happen to come at a time where we saw something totally out of the ordinary?
I also learned about the gas manufacturing plant that used to exist on the same plot of land as the park and the toxic waste that they left behind. I understand that a multi-year and multi-million dollar cleanup project occurred but I feel a bit uneasy about considering living near there after learning this. Does the city continue to test the soil and/or groundwater to ensure that there aren't still contaminants left behind?
Thanks in advance for any info that you're able to provide.
Looking for a great seafood market in the area? Willing to travel a bit if needed, just something non supermarket is preferred.
Hi all, mod u/5torm here. A while ago, this subreddit became inundated with bigoted/obnoxious posts and comments from anonymous burner accounts, which resulted in the mod team setting r/OakPark to a restricted community.
In the time since then the subreddit has grown immensely and several members have expressed their interest in opening it back up to a public community. If you have an opinion on the matter, please feel free to vote or comment your thoughts. We always appreciate feedback on how to improve r/OakPark. Thanks for your time!
I (23, AA Female) am interested in moving to Oak Park within the next few months, and up until recently, I've thought really great things about the city. That is, until I've started to see a couple of issues. Firstly, the Village Hall Google page is cull of negative reviews of the city, mainly citing their parking regulations as a huge problem. I also found this link explaining how oak park used to have a (not so distant) history of racist incidents in the town. When visiting myself, I've never felt uncomfortable, but I will say that I have not seen any younger Black women spending time in the city (unless they are at work). This question is specifically for any POC/Black individuals currently living there: what is your honest experience? Should I pick a different place to live for my first home?
Hi All,
I've been living in OP for 5 years, but this summer I've started getting itchy bites all over my body. I went to the dermatologist and she immediately stopped me and said she knows what it is...bites from tiny mites that fall out of the trees after feeding on the cicada eggs.
These things are itchy! Sometimes they flare up into a welt that itches for days and sometimes they are more subdued, but any day that I walk outside for a significant amount of time I seem to get one or two bites.
I feel like I'm being held hostage by microscopic insects!
Here is a Wednesday Journal Article about them.
Hi neighbors! I just moved to Oak Park with my pup. I wanted to see if anyone had recommendations for a good vet in the area. She doesn't have any health issues but she just turned 10 so I want to be sure I have a good vet to call. Thanks!
