Do people know of any gravel races or events (doesn’t have to be competitive) in the Auckland area?
Hi there, Anyone triend the Merida Expert TR dropper? Or the Giant Switch? Which would be better. After a entry level dropper for 30.9. TIA
Hi, I'm coming to visit your lovely country in mid November and would like to do some cycling. I ride road and gravel mostly, and am hoping to find a decent road bike to ride around on the north island for a few days. No plans on where to stay, so if there are areas that are more cycling friendly I'm flexible!
Any tips on where to rent and where to ride? Ideally 40-60km rides. Thanks very much :)
Hi there, I have available an entry for the event. Normally $94+fees Selling it at $80
Let me know if interested. Thank you.
Hey NZ cycling community. I’ve been out of the country for many years and am a bit lost to the best online and local bikes shops. I’m located in Welly, but usually I buy most parts online. Ideally I’d like to support local businesses, but price is always a factor. Any suggestions welcome 🙏

Hi
I ride road bikes..... thin wheels.
Where in NZ can I buy patches small enough for like a 20 - 23mm tyre ?
I used to be able to buy little black patches around 14mm in dia.
Seems to be a lost art ?
Thanks
Pat
Hi there,
I'm based in Auckland, CBD and I'm new to cycling. I recently bought a bike to commute from St Benedict Street in the CBD to Pt Chevalier. However, with the recent roadworks in Pt Chevalier, I’m unsure how to safely navigate to the Coyle Park area.
I assume you get off Carrington Rd, then turn right to Great North Road then into Huia Rd, but I would like a second opinion.
Thanks in advance.
Hi everyone! Brand new to reddit and this is my first post - please excuse any faux pas!
I'm a casual biker hoping to train towards biking from Picton to Christchurch for christmas. I'm of average fitness and am looking for a bit of a challenge, but nothing life threatening lol. I was thinking over 5 or 6 days, so around 80 km per day. Still in the beginning stages of planning, so looking for any advice or tips!
I have a road bike (giant), so I'm hoping I can use that - is this feasible?
Any advice on the route - SH1 down the coast, or inland via the Hurunui heartland ride? Most of my biking so far has been urban, in and around Wellington, so any advice on biking on open roads is welcome!! Any recommended equipment and cheap places to stay? Basically feeling out the vibes so literally any pointers people can give me would be much appreciated thank you! :)
HI! We are a planning a gravel route near Queenstowm. Google maps shows that there is a way from Glenorchy to Milford sound through Routeburn trail, is it so? Other sources show only a way through Te Anau, and we do not want to go the same way there and back. If there is a way is it managable on a gravel bike?
Also found a this way in bikemaps , not sure it is true
Looking at doing the Mountains to Sea route in September/October. Wondering if anyone here has done it and any tips. I'm planning to do it on a gravel bike (is this a good idea?). Curious to know how many days it took other riders and where they stayed along the way. Thanks :)
Scenic drive is a narrow, dark, shaded road with lots a tight corners. Good it is now 60kph. Seems to be three types of riders, one with bright clothing and decent lights, the next with dark clothing and shitty $20 lights and the last dark clothing and no lights.
The last is obviously harder to see. Roadies with black clothes, black bikes, no lights on a dark tight road what is your thinking? Wouldn't it be simple logic to attempt to be seen? Are black clothes faster? Do lights really add that much weight and if they do couldn't you compensate for that in your times?
Genuine question, don't want to get into the brighter clothes don't work studies, let's park that and accept for the sake of this question that brighter clothes and lights do help you to be seen so what is the theory for going so dark?
Tried Torpedo7, Evo and a couple of other places, they all have womens ones, but no mens ones oddly enough. Ended up buying a womens pair in my size because I'm cycling to work at 6:30 AM and its bloody freezing but the fit isnt great and the padding is in the wrong place slightly
Looking to buy Suarez jerseys - Anyone here rock this kit? What’s your thoughts on it?
Price, fitting, quality etc.
Thanks
I noticed that disc brakes on road bikes ain’t as common. Is there a significant difference between the two? I know the decelerating distance is slower with a disc but I heard its heavier - is it noticeable? Any other pros and cons to note re. disc brakes?
Kia ora,
As the title says, I'm on the hunt for a really warm pair of gloves for -4 degree Celsius temperatures. I am biking to work in Christchurch and wearing leather motorcycle gloves but they aren't cutting it. By the time I get to work, my hands are burning and so painful I can barely undo my helmet or use my hands.
Recommendations for good gloves I can buy in store or order online in NZ would be greatly appreciated!
I googled it and there's a ton of companies doing custom tops but looking for recommendations from people who's got it done before. Thanks!
So my partner & I have decided to take up cycling (which we both did quite alot of when younger).
And as our daughter has recently taken an interest, we've just purchased 2 virtually identical 2009 'avanti escape' bikes with a 2 bike towbar mount, and decent bike pump for $300 nzd (seen in pictures). Both bikes are in really good condition having been shed stored their entire lives and seen little use.
Apparently they were competition bikes (according to catalogue), and so I'm wondering if they'll be any good for mountain biking, light trails etc.
Also wondering if they're female bikes or males or unisex as I really can't tell.
And what the limitations of these bikes may be, What I should be mindful of etc.. I havn't cycled in almost 10 years so a little out of touch in terms of these bikes versus what's available now - some 15 years later.
Bonus points if ya can give me a gage of rrp, or today's value. I personally think we did alright for what we paid..
Also if you have any protips for accessories, modifications, or otherwise suggestions I'm all ears.
TLDR: Bought some used 'comp' mtbs.. what do you reckon?
The title basically. I have. Scott AED Expert and a LaPierre 400 FDJ that I am looking to offload, I wasn't sure if Facebook marketplace was the best bet. I am also looking for pricing advice if you guys can point me in the right direction. Thank you!
Not sure if either of you comes here but just in case.
Thanks a lot for helping me get my shit together after I came off on the northwestern cycleway. I think as I went past those tatty tarp construction signs the wind caught one and blew it in front of my bars right where a hole was, I kept going and my bike was stuck to the sign. I was probably doing 25kph and landed on my back, my helmet is broken and dented in a few places and I have serious pain in the back of my hip but I managed the 10km ride home so maybe I won't be out of riding for too long. Bike is totally fine, not even a scratch so that's one good thing.
All I actually remember is riding along, big gust of wind, and then being on the ground in pain and my bike was gone. The accident isn't even a blur, just nothing.
Thanks for helping me and even though I know you were speaking English, my brain was so messed up that I had no idea what you were saying, so I'm sorry about that. I'm pretty sure I was unconscious for a few seconds there before you helped me up because I felt really spaced out while I walked the bike for 10 mins.
I hope you see this cause im not sure if I thanked you.
Cheers.
Thanks to an anonymous reddit on here, I've been able to watch the giro. Has anybody seen stage 7? Individual TT. Is poggy human?!
Hi all,
Moved back to NZ, and i'm in need of a new road bike. Do NZ retailers have peaks and troughs in terms of pricing (outside of christmas/boxing day sales). I have my eye on a bike but don't want to pull the trigger too early if it's likely to drop in price as winter kicks in.
Thanks!
Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone has some guidance on the best way to ship a wheelset from the North Island to CHCH? The seller would prefer they be picked up but would consider shipping if I make it easy with them and give some guidance on how.
I've never done something like this so would appreciate your advice/expertise!
Cheers.
I've been given a 100 buck voucher from work, dont mind spending up to a couple of hundred more on top. Want something I can attach to my helmet
Hello good people of NZ! Greetings from Singapore! As the title suggests I would like to know more on the cycling scene in NZ. I’m passionate, love riding and racing. How is the racing scene over there, club rides and etc? Are Crit and Road races there held often (if yes how often?)? Ive only heard good things about NZ and especially it’s cycling culture!
I've recently changed jobs and started cycling to work 2-3 days a week. My commute is 20km each way, mostly roads and pavement (the biggest bumps I go over are a few railway lines, and going from road onto footpath). My current bike is a Silverback Strider 27 - I'm finding it OK, but I'd rather have something that's a bit more suited to my purpose than a hard tail mountain bike. The top gear doesn't quite feel fast enough on flats, and it's a bit heavy going uphill.
Would anyone have a recommendation for a good commuter bike in the $1000-$1500 price range? Ideally I just want to focus on lightweight and speed, although a little comfort would be a nice addition.
I'm eyeing up an Avanti Giro FM 3 which I might go look at this weekend, but I'm keen to hear what the experts of the internet recommend.
