A reddit about and related to bus transportation in NYC!

Hello all,
Just wanted to get some info on joining NYC Transit Authority as a Bus Operator. I currently work for a uniformed NYC agency. I will still have bills to pay for after I start collecting a pension from NYCERS after I retire. I'll be under 60 when I retire. After looking looking into it, it seems that there are rules for post employment when collecting a pension.
I put a link from NYCERS website stating the rules and exceptions. Does anyone have any information on this or know anyone that went through this before?
My Mom and I live near the BxM1 stop at Johnson Ave. Today, we were heading downtown, I check the MTA App. Now, the app does say there are ‘cancellations,’ but it says there’s a bus coming that left the terminal, arriving in 9 minutes, vehicle #1461.
We get to the stop ~3 minutes before it’s supposed to arrive, and no bus comes. My Mom uses this bus 1-2 times per week and says this has happened before. I open the MTA App, and there is no southbound bus that is just a stop or two ahead of ours, so we couldn’t have just missed it by a couple of seconds. So, on the map view, I click on every bus north and southbound- NONE of them are vehicle #1461.
The App said there were trips outright canceled, but not that there was suspended/abbreviated service anywhere along the route. If the bus had left the terminal, had an ETA, and had X number of passengers, it couldn’t have been canceled. So why was it no longer on the map on the App? Where did the bus go?
Waiting an hour for these buses and the no warning or the plain we don't have bus operators even tho they do just no buses I'm getting tired of waiting for this bus and paying a premium for it . Even local buses aren't worth the $2.90 they charge lol.
I need help finding a study guide for the mta maintainer helper test coming up
For context, I live in College Point and about the majority of residents here depend on the Q25 and Q65.
Today, a Q65 approached my stop and was nearly packed. There wasn’t anymore room so the bus driver closed the door. A lady began to raise hell because there was space in the back and the driver wouldn’t let anyone get in. She proceeded to yell that she was late for work and how it was unfair, while trying to pry the front door open. Incidentally enough, about 3 weeks ago, something similar happened on the 25, only this person stood in the middle of road, blocking traffic and preventing the bus from pulling out of the curb.
How do you bus operators deal with this? Additionally, has there been any plans to increase service on these two lines (esp. the 65)? I have been seeing a variety in the bus fleet, some from different bus depots (saw one from Fresh Pond of all places).
Hello. If you are a NYC transit worker, and you retire at 55 years old, what do you receive when you retire?
A NYCERs pension AND your 401k? (Whats the difference between them?)
Thank you.
It just never comes
Why hasn’t it been implemented yet
So I got onto a B44 SBS towards Sheepshead bay or so I thought. I didn't realize it was going to only Ave U. I got off because I noticed one to Knapp's st was right behind it. I ran to the bus but he closed his doors and I pointed I want to get on. He was pointing to the one I got off like TF. I need to get to Sheepshead bay not Ave U otherwise I would of stayed on that one.
In my opinion, I think it should. Maybe if you don’t have access to the 2 or 5 train but to the bm2, and wanna get there quick, maybe the bm2 should stop at the b11/b103 section. You can possibly live in an apartment in Manhattan, or somewhere in Canarsie Or spring creek.
Anyone knows what they're being used for now?
I was unable to get the driver's name but Bus 9027 this morning (picked up at Jamaica around 6:12am). When the driver noticed patrons attempting to avoid the fare, she politely stated the fare cost and asked the patrons to pay. As they walked toward the back of the bus, the driver repeated and said if you do not pay the fare, I am politely going to ask that you step off of the bus.
I think that situation was handled calmly and efficiently. The patrons stepped off of the bus without confrontation.
She did an AMAZING job. She is always friendly, even early in the morning.
I would suggest that she trains new hires, as she is THAT AMAZING at her job. I wish I knew your name - but please do know that you are appreciated!

I was waiting for the bus in a line and this woman decided hey I'll just skip you I guess. I was letting the guy in front of me on first. It's the principle more than anything for me like is it a big deal? No but it's like it's the etiquette. Notice this alot on Staten Island bus routes be it local or express.
Hi, I need help reporting a bus driver. The bus was in service, with about half a dozen people. Clearly waved for it to stop and it did not.
I suggest having the S78 to be an SBS. It’s the longest route in the city and on the island itself. Even though it goes on Hylan Blvd, I propose it to function similarly to the Q52/53 in Queens. At the same time, add SBS machines to all SBS stops for the S78/79 since it doesn’t exist and it’s basically just like a limited bus service
A man got on a limited bus and realized the bus was not going to stop where he wanted
