Nova Scotia: Canada's Ocean Playground

I mean if there ever was a moment where it makes sense now is that moment. Fuck being bled dry by corporate America.
Based on estimates (Canadians withdrawing from Netflix alone would be $225M reduction), perhaps Orange man will respond more from the inside if an estimated $1b is removed.
If you own stock and can afford it, sell it.
As much as I am not a fan of b3ll, buy crave for your streaming.
Nova Scotia's premier has ordered that all American booze be removed from provincial liquor stores by February 4. Gonna get my wife to go snag me a bottle of Jack Daniels later today when she wakes up . Fuck it, it's already been paid for by the province and I'm saving them having to store it until this shit is over, plus they'll have less money tied up in inventory. It's my patriotic duty really.
The U.S. government has launched a trade war, and the cost will fall on us as consumers while corporations will carry on unaffected as usual. Our government may have its own response, but we have our own agency with our purchasing power. We can take direct action where our governments cant impose tarrifs...
The best move we have? Cancel all the American services we can.
1. Streaming Services: Cut the Subscriptions
There’s no reason to keep feeding into U.S.-based media giants.
Cancel the following:
Netflix
Disney+
HBO Max (or whatever they’re calling it now)
Hulu
Apple TV+
Paramount+
Peacock
Instead, explore Canadian alternatives—there are plenty. And if you can’t find an acceptable solution, visit other subreddits like /r/piracy for solutions.
If Netflix is non-negotiable, here’s a tip: Get the $5 ad-supported version, use Firefox + uBlock Origin, and enjoy full access without the ads.
2. Music: Ditch the American Platforms
Spotify isn’t American, so you can keep it if you want.
But consider canceling:
Apple Music
Amazon Music
Tidal
YouTube Music Premium
You already know where to go if you need other options.
3. Ride-Sharing & Food Delivery: Use Local Options
These services are extractive, taking money out of local economies while driving down wages. If you can, try your local taxi service or consider setting up carpools with friends and family.
Cancel and remove:
Uber
Lyft
DoorDash
Instacart
If you’re in an area where Voila is available, it’s a better service—check it out.
4. The Big One: Amazon & Walmart Online Orders
This is the hardest change for most people, but if we want to make an impact, we have to stop defaulting to U.S. corporate giants. Try buying local first.
That said, reality is reality—sometimes these companies are the cheapest or only option. If you’re struggling financially, no judgment. But if you have the ability to cut back, even a little, it makes a difference. Tighten the belt where you can.
Final Thought: Were all in this together
The U.S. government has started a trade war that will directly impact our economies. Governments may respond in their own way, but as consumers, we have a responsibility to act where it’s most effective—by choosing where we spend our money and cutting off support to the very companies that benefit from these policies.
Cancel what you can. Use alternatives where possible. And if you need a workaround for media access, you know where to look.
This isn’t about empty protest—it’s about real action with real consequences. Let’s make it count.
Since we are going totally Canadian now, soo, maybe we should discard the name of our continent i.e. North America. I mean why America? 😅 why is it not North Canada? America has always been suppressing Canada. So, maybe its time to be free from American oppression. Just give it a thought. 🤔
I will be moving to Nova Scotia soon, and I want some recommendations for surf fishing equipment
Aside from the obvious of buying greeting cards at little independent local shops, and keeping an eye on labels in the grocery store, what other things make sense to unsubscribe from? I’m thinking of cancelling my Amazon Prime. Please share some ideas here! TIA
I am a first time home buyer and looking for a house, I saw a house selling for 470k but it was sold for 420k 2 years ago and no significant changes were made in the house. I plan to offer 390k to 400k as that is my personal limit, I am afraid to check with a realtor as they might not understand where im coming from with my offer. Its hard for me to pay to that amount knowing it was sold a lot cheaper 2 yrs ago., Realtors are saying houses will only go up from here. I will be house poor if I take this mortgage but if I dont get one I might not get anything at all in the future. Any advice I will really appreciate it or even drop a realtors name that you think could understand my situation. Thank you!
HI

Hey everyone, I’m taking an impromptu trip to NS starting at the end of the month for 1.5-2 months. Are there any places that are absolute must-sees? I love nature, hiking, I don’t drink, I’m spiritual and into Druidic shit. Also, are there any locations in NS where those things are built into the community and there is a sense of community around that? Thanks in advance.
Hi, my great-grandfather lived in the province for many years, and had series of homes throughout Nova Scotia. I'd really love to be able to gather the addresses of these places, as much as I plan on walking around Halifax in places my grandmother has suggested she grew up. I figured I'd reach out, and see if anyone recognized these for some reason and could suggest an address!
Thanks all, I can find additional information as well if need be :).
If I lived illegally in the woods somewhere. But I didn't tell anybody. What are the odds somebody finds me and reports me?
If i was just in the woods off of some road, Would anyone actual authority figure be able to find me and know that it is illegal?
I'm in a very rough spot financially and need a place where I'm able to work nights and weekends that pays enough to put up with working nights and weekends. The only places around here like that seem to be Michelin and Groupe Savoie.
I feel like I'd make a great fit at both places but it seems like recently most places don't even look at your resume. I passed the essentials test thing for Michelin with flying colours, does that like put me in a better position of getting hired? Sorry for such a specific question, just hoping some people here have some experience. Thanks!
Big 8 or any other Canadian cola company.
Edit:
Just to clarify , I didn't mean to ruffle feathers with suggesting Big 8. Or should I say Big Hate.
I just didn't know another example off the cuff.
Planning go. Staying in Halifax area as a base for day trips. Would also like to see Oak Island recommendations please
Has anyone been successful with appealing student loans? I had a specific amount I was shown for months and yesterday they changed the amount to zero. Attempting to appeal but do not know anyone who has had to do this!! Any help is appreciated 🙏
Another promotion (?) for a RCMP staff involved involved in the Mass Casualty. Lia Scanlon is known for not sending an alert to the warn public & then not understanding her culpability
"Scanlan told investigators with the Mass Casualty Commission in an interview last fall that she was " super proud" and after thinking about it extensively, "wouldn't change a thing" about the way her team shared information with the public"
I haven’t been paying close attention to news so what is up with Amazon Canada that everything I check is temporarily out of stock?
I use my SAVE FOR LATER to keep track of books to get from the library, which is why I noticed.
I have a membership to Amazon Prime.
