Ive done some digging and can’t find precise answers to some questions around car registration in NOVA. Hypothetically, if I have two houses, one in NOVA and one in SOVA, and I keep one set of cars at one house and one set of cars at another house. Would I need to register them somehow separately with the DMV or just keep the mailing address the same for every car and put the other “garage jurisdiction” county for the southern cars? How does this work for taxes? Would I end up somehow paying taxes to a NOVA county and another county? What about emissions? Would I need to do emissions on the cars for the cars in southern Virginia even though they’re titled to my address in NOVA but they live down south?
Also I am fully aware this is an extremely stereotypical NOVA question and I accept the jabs probably incoming.
30 mins or less from Dulles - any good hikes with scenic views? Medium or easy level difficulty fine.
Hi! I'm hoping yall can provide your recommendations for the best pet friendly apartments in Nova. It's just me and will have my 70 lb mixed breed dog w me. Would prefer to not be more than 30 mins from work (Oakton/Vienna). Budget $2.2k which is flipping crazy to even say cause wtf are these apartments so expensive for but...could use recommendations because I get extremely overwhelmed when searching online. I have a few written down, but the reviews always freak me out and I don't know which to take as a grain of salt and which complexes I should absolutely not consider. Was looking in Vienna, mosaic, Tysons, Arlington.
TIA!
Saw some useful info on another thread but wondering if anyone has experience with the a dentist who deals with people who have dental anxiety closer to manassas. I have been going consistently for the last 2 years (moved from another state) but recently gums have gotten worse/swollen due to pregnancy. Nervous to get a cleaning but know I need one asap before it gets worse.
I will be a travel dietitian at Inova fair oaks hospital. I found a spot 1 mile away and will not be bringing a car. Is this area walkable? Also how’s the public transportation in this area as well?
Just moved to Rosslyn and the 2 gyms I tried here I hate. The anytime fitness is so cramped and there’s no space there to literally do anything advanced. And I messed up and used my free day pass for golds on the weekend but I presume that’ll be overcrowded.
I’m looking for a spacious gym dedicated to lifting.
The lifetime in Clarendon is probably what I’m looking for in terms of equipment and spaciousness but I don’t think it’s wise for me to spend that much on a gym membership immediately even if I could afford it
Hey everyone - looking to see if anyone is or knows anyone in the business of wholesale refurbished laptops (Chromebooks, HP Pavilions etc, Grade B and below)? These are laptops that might not have a hdd/ssd, battery, charging adapter or other components but are tested to run and operate. There are no buying limits, just needs to meet the criteria. Any leads are appreciated, thank you!

Restaurant workers demonstrated outside the Fairfax County, Virginia, government center Tuesday in opposition to a meals tax being considered by the Board of Supervisors to increase county revenue.
A meals tax would be assessed on all prepared foods – including drinks sold along with them – from restaurants, cafeterias, coffee shops, food carts and ready-to-eat grocery items.
At 1%, a meals tax would generate $33 million. The top rate allowed – 6% – would mean $198 million...
In a budget committee session Tuesday, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors wanted to get a fuller picture of how adding several other types of taxes might work to slightly shift the heavy reliance on property taxes.
“All we signaled was to get the information today,” Chairman Jeff McKay said.
Supervisors say a meals tax could ease the burden on property owners...
If the Board does decide to move ahead with the tax, the staff recommends doing it as part of next year’s budget process, meaning a possible vote in spring 2025. If it wins approval, the earliest it could be collected would be January 2026.
“Sixty-six percent of our revenues is from the real estate tax,” said Fairfax County Supervisor Walter Alcorn. “That’s too high. It is just too high. And as hard as it is we have to find ways to diversify our tax structure locally.”

I stopped at the line at a red light today, like I do every day. And the guy next to me was almost 2 car lengths back. I see this all the time here, and just want to know why. Is there some local rule to stop so the line is visible over the top of your hood? Is there some superstition that I'm unaware of preventing people from pulling all the way forward?
I've lived here for 6 years now and I see it happen all the time. My brain just begs for a reason.
If you don't know, give me your best Urban legend.
I went to the DMV to get a real ID credential with my updated home address. The agent turned me away because my dominion utility bill (took this as proof of residency) had a ‘#42’ as part of my home address. (Street Name, City, Zip Code, #42). Has this happened to anyone else or can anyone tell me why dominion adds this number to my mailed bill? Thank you.
Not an ad to sell my stuff.
I heard anything but REVERB was a good place to sell your used gear. Where are some good places to sell your used instruments like guitars?
I work at dominos as a delivery driver four days a week. I got to GMU full time. Last night someone ran a red light and I got T-boned on Lee highway. I only have 3k saved up. My mom moved to Richmond for a job opportunity and my father lives in Philly. I'm basically out of a car and I don't know what other part time jobs that can pay 3k a month. I have two years left before I graduate.
Hello.
So I recently got into a crash. I was going maybe 50 on a 45 and started slowing down on the exit but pressed my brakes too hard which caused my car to spin out of control and I crashed into the highway wall (slick roads too). Although the cop gave me a ticket for reckless driving, he said I wasn’t guilty and to only go to court if I wanted to contest the ticket. If not to just pay online or by check. I’m a college student and have no other offenses so I was wondering if it’s even worth it contesting the ticket. Please share any advice!
Lanternfly spotted in Ashburn outside the main door to the Cyrus One building off old ox road. Best believe it received the squishing.
Is there a POC I can reach out to so I can report it? VA department of natural resources?
im willing to drive upwards of an hour if its worth it tbh!
ones ive already visited:
-unique, its just too packed and too pricey (same with the savers by fair lakes. it pisses me off when thrift stores "know what they have," so to speak. just bc its calvin klein doesn't mean u get to charge me $14.99! at that point ill just get a new top at tj maxx!).
-the fairfax goodwill is okay especially when you stick to the 75% off color
-theres that one next to revolutions which is actually nice
-one in annandale that was just called THRIFT STORE in big orange letters for a while, but i will never go back.......the man standing in line in front of me fully pissed his pants mid checkout. i wish i was making that up.
Hi!
Myself and some friends have all just accepted job offers in the nova area and have some questions about looking for housing. In short, we are a group of 4 male new college grads (22M) looking for housing in the herndon/chantilly/fairfax/oakton area starting in late May/Early June 2025. We all have goodish credit (700+) and our budget is on the low/medium range, 1-2k each per month.
This sub seems pretty knowledgeable about the area and so I wanted to ask if anyone had any recommendations about where to look and when the best time to look would be.
I was born & raised in Bel Air, MD. I am now an empty nester & really have had a desire to move into northern va, especially into Loudoun County. Is there anyone looking for a roommate to move in near 04/25? I'm independent, intelligent, witty & financially secure. I have the means to get my own place, but I would rather try living with a roomate at first since I'm in an unknown area. I've never lived with a roommate, but I respect other people & treat others the way I would like to be treated. I'm a 37 yr old woman with one elderly cat, if it matters.
Hello! I'm a hobby seamstress and fiber artist. It seems like the craft store options around here are abysmal?
The Joann's on West Ox is poorly managed and disorganized with prices constantly marked incorrectly. The Michael's in Fair Lakes is good for knitting and embroidery, but they don't specialize in sewing materials, so simple things like bias tape are missing from their inventory.
I went into the Hobby Lobby in Fair Lakes for the first time today and was surprised by the prices and variety of goods, but I felt off about my employee interactions around the store generally and particularly when I was checking out.
When I went to check out, both cashiers were busy, but there was no line, so I browsed nearby until one of them was free. I made eye contact with the cashier who was free and started to walk over when she walked away from the register and proceeded to do anything else. She rearranged gum, she kicked non-existent debris out of the walkway, she stood behind the other cashier like she needed something, but then never spoke. I was clearly in line at this point, and we made eye contact multiple times, but she would always break it to go do something else. The customer in front of me was taking a while because she had a full cart and was going into the app to get coupons. When she finished, I came up to the other cashier and started to check out my four items (comically, it was all bias tape). A woman came up to wait in line and immediately the [cashier] calls, "I can help who's next over here". I threw my hands up incredulously, catching her eye one last time, but she just looked away again.
I'm a smiley black woman wearing a bright, knit cardigan over office clothes, so I don't think my demeanor was the problem? It's possible she was taking a break? If nothing else, it felt rude.
Regardless, this excursion was a trial to see if I could overlook their smuggling looted artifacts and otherwise bad politics, and it turns out the answer is unsurprisingly no.
Are there any local shops I'm overlooking? I like Sew Magarbo and love G Street Fabrics, but those are both out of the way for me.
