Trying to find the mansion aroundish Tysons with Arabic architecture.

I used to live in Nova (until 2014ish), and remember regularly driving past a massive Arabic-style mansion with - I thought - an onion dome. I'm pretty sure it was somewhere near Tysons, maybe along Route 7, Georgetown Pike, or the toll road. Can someone help jog my memory? I'm trying to show pictures to someone.

    Neighborhood Recommendations

I will be moving to the area soon and would appreciate a little guidance on good/safe areas to live in. I am moving there because I got a job in fort belvoir and will be making about 80k. It will be just me and my gf so we are looking for 1 or 2 bedroom apartments. I will be commuting around 7am and 7pm and would like to keep my commute to about 45 mins or less. I prefer to not live in the heart of any city and would much rather be in the outskirts.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!!

    DWI enforcement on Leesburg Pike?

First time I've ever seen something like this. Coming home from a concert in Baltimore on the way to Leesburg area, and encountered a massive backup of cars on Leesburg Pike. Thought it was a crash, but it instead was about 20-30 police officers lining all three lanes stopping every car and asking for licenses. Expected them to breathalyzer everyone too, but they weren't and waved us through after checking my license and shining a flashlight in the car. Maybe they pull you aside for more testing if they have reasonable suspicion you are drunk, or are also catching people with expired licenses or something?

Seems like an odd place and time to do it though, besides being a Saturday night. Would probably be better to do this after a Nats game or New Years or something... Anyone familiar with this kind of thing?

Breakfast date spots with the same vibe as First Watch?

Looking for new breakfast spots around the Arlington area since First Watch has been our usual go-to. I’m after places similar to First Watch that offer organic options, cage-free eggs, quality ingredients, etc.

Not looking for old-school diner-style spots recs like Bob and Edith’s —more interested in places with a mode modern vibe and fresh ingredients. Thanks!

Are there a lot of people smoking weed while driving?

I swear I smell it from multiple cars on a daily basis.

Edit: Consensus is yes, in which case can I call the cops on these people driving under the influence?

Looking for vegan cannolis and a place to hold pigeons or hamsters in NoVA, DC, MD area

It is my wife's birthday. She wants vegan cannolis. Where can I get them from? I'm not asking about general desert places (like sticky fingers), I'm talking about a genuine vegan cannoli.

Additionally. Does anyone know anywhere we could interact with a pigeon or hamster. She loves them, but we don't have the space to own one. It would be great if she could just hang with one for a bit, like a pigeon rescue or something? Idk. Mostly need a cannoli rec.

If Trump fires/moves a large percent of the federal workforce, do y'all think rent will go down?

I am against firing massive amounts of government workers for both moral and practical reasons.

But do you all think it will at least help with this areas housing crisis? We have quite low vacancy rates.

    Real estate planning

Hello does anyone have recommendations for real estate planning lawyers? My mom owns a small home and wants to make sure everything is legally taken care of with proper will and documents to ensure the city doesn’t get involved shall she pass anytime. There is no will or nothing so she is starting from scratch with the process. She wants to ensure a smooth process and she also needs advice on what she could do with her home. Any guidance or recommendations would be helpful thanks . Based in Alexandria.

Recovery Community - Sober Activities in NOVA

I moved to Northern VA a few months ago from Austin, TX. There is a large community of sober/sober curious people—festivals, events, concerts, sports leagues, supper clubs, etc. I haven't found that here so far and am hoping for some suggestions. I'm not looking for a 12-step group; instead, I'm looking for groups that get out and enjoy all the things the area has to offer, sans drinks. Bonus points for groups for women.

INova in Ashburn - please do not use ride share to dispose of homeless patients.

I am a ride share driver. It is normal for me to get ride requests to and from hospitals. 90% of the time it is an employee that is going to or from work. Every once in a while I will get a patient pickup that was ordered by insurance.

Last weekend I received a request for a pickup at the INova facility in Ashburn. The ride is going to Leesburg.

I arrive and two security guards come out of the building with two full trash bags of someone’s belongings and they put them in the trunk of my car. Then they go back in and escort a man with a walker out to the car. He looks to be in his 70’s. His appearance is very disheveled and it is very apparent that he has not bathed in a long time.

I started the ride and confirm the address. He asks if it is near the Walmart. I say I don’t know. Along the way he states that he is very confused. I empathize with him and assure him that we will arrive to the destination in a few minutes.

As we pull up to the address, I notice that it is a homeless shelter. I get the man’s belongings out of the trunk. I take his walker to him and take his bags to the front door of the shelter.

I ring the bell. A person answers and I tell them that I have a drop off and ask someone to come to the door. The door has cameras aimed at it. I hear the person talking to a co-worker. I hear them say “it’s the same guy that was here earlier”, referring to my passenger. They then state that they do not take walk-ins and that I have to take him back to the hospital. I tell them no. No I don’t have to do that. I have completed my contract with Lyft and I am leaving. Have a good night.

I proceed to get in my car, complete the ride, and leave.

I filed a report with Lyft that I was concerned with a passenger. I did all that I could have and should have done.

But shame on INova for doing this and shame on the homeless shelter. Shame on both of you for not coordinating. Shame on both of you for bringing in a third party and then trying to put it back on me.

I hope that all parties that were involved in every aspect of this man’s care have the day that you deserve. You are all jerks for doing this.

Edit: When I was younger I was a Firefighter III in Montgomery County, MD. I have a lot of experience and training evaluating and treating people.

Also, medical rides booked by hospitals appear in the driver app differently. It is not an obvious difference, but ones that I am able to pick up on after driving ride share part time for 10 years. This ride was booked under the passengers (patients) account. It was his first ride on the Lyft platform. Someone went through the trouble of creating him his own account. There were no social services involved.

Last but not least, I get it. I understand from both the perspective of the hospital and the shelter. My issue is involving a third party thinking that you found a solution to the issue. Disgraceful.

What are the best low-key places to do career networking in Northern Virginia? I’m looking to expand my professional network beyond my own industry. Any ideas, creative or traditional, are appreciated. I’d love to hear your personal experiences. Weekend networking is best for my work hours.

Just took my kids into D.C. for the first time in a long time. Watched a streaker get tased on the National Mall. Good times.

    Ahh . . .

    Cultural enrichment.

(Edit to add that there were LOTS of people using their phones to record this Hallmark moment, so if I find a video posted I will share.)
