Recap of last year
North Melbourne started off valiantly, going down to better opposition but looking competitive. Then we forgot how to football from round 4 until our bye, with our closest margin being 38 points (against the Saints).
Then after the bye we looked like a football side again for a bit, claiming our first win in the West with a great spoonbowl clash in which we won by 9 points.
We then valiantly took on the reigning premiers Collingwood, and went down by a point, losing 118-119 (Do not look at this match any further, we did not blow a 9 goal lead), with George Wardlaw tearing Collingwood a new one in the first half to have 90 fantasy points and 48 point lead and Nick Larkey kicking 4 of our 8 first quarter goals on Darcy Moore (then doing nothing else the rest of the game).
We followed that effort up by forgetting to football for a quarter and then losing to the Demons by 3 points at the MCG in which we held them scoreless in the last, while kicking 5 of our own. You could be forgiven for believing that it was a North home game based off the crowd.
Then the following game, Bont just did Bont things as we went down to the Dogs by 17.
We then beat Gold Coast at Marvel by 4 points, our first home win in Melbourne since March 18th 2023, and the crowd was loud and up for it. The siren could not be heard over the cheers of victory that day, it was also the final day we sat bottom of the ladder (hopefully forever).
Then we faced a tough stretch, Sydney, Carlton and Geelong (1st, 2nd and 3rd on the ladder at the time). Quick summary: Gulden good, Free Kick Carlton (Some I'll admit were deserved), Cats small forwards good.
We then beat Richmond by 13 in part 1 of the spoonbowl in which 6 North players had 100+ fantasy points and 3 more had 97+. Everyone we needed to stood up that game and we walked away with the win.
Part 2 of the spoonbowl was going well against the Eagles down in Tassie, then in the space of 3 minutes (real time) we blew an 9 point lead, conceding 3 goals to lose 97-102.
And that is where the season ends, we did not lose the final 2 games by a combined 220 points. Nope, no sir, not us.
Basically, we played shit for about 2/3rd of the season then had a great run of some close games where we looked like a proper football team. And I think thats where as a club we want to go, make that run go for as long as possible where we are in as many games as possible.

Players on Notice
- Luke McDonald - Former skipper of the team, having stepped down during the offseason after several poor years on field. I'll give him the fact he's been a great clubman but on field he's VFL standard. He's had one good year (2020) and done nothing since.
- Will Phillips - Barely kept his list spot this year, he's had a rough start to his career with injuries and glandular fever. Had a few guys go past him in the midfield and seems to be a one dimensional contested ball winning midfielder. Really hope to see him add some speed and other elements to his game.
- Robert Hansen Jr - Small forward who the club seems to rate, kicked a handful of goals in his career but hasn't really done much of note. Want to see him challenging for spots and kicking goals this year.
- Dylan Stephens - He's good by foot and quick, that's all. He also seems to be afraid of being tackled or laying a tackle, which goes against the Shinboner spirit, which is why he is on here. All I can say is eat cement Dylan, it'll do you a world of good with your football.
- Callum Coleman-Jones - Came across from Richmond a few years ago to be a key forward who can ruck, was held in high regard but injuries and list additions mean he's at risk of becoming a break glass in case of player.
Players to Look out for
- Harry Sheezel - Quite literally the 2nd coming of Christ, he's Jewish, performs miracles, and looks good doing it. He is just great to watch, and an amazing player. He's a top 10 player and if he played for a Big Vic club then he probably comes close to Cripps in the Brownlow.
- Nick Larkey - He's always a shot for the Coleman medal, he always kicks goals. Since going back to 20 minute quarters (2021 season), the only players to kick more goals than Larkey (197) are Jermey Cameron (221) and Charlie Curnow (204).
- George Wardlaw - Another young gun who is great to watch, he just goes about his football the right way. Crashes into the contest and it is fun to watch. If he gets his hamstrings sorted then he is going to dominate the contest.
- Tristian Xerri - AA Ruckmen, calling it here. He is an absolute contest machine. I am pretty sure he sometimes just taps the ball to the opposition just to lay a tackle. He also is pretty quick for a ruckmen. Can't talk highly enough about him.
- Luke Davies-Uniacke - Basically our version of Chad Warner, except his side steps are better, He can just burst out of stoppages and kick goals and it is great to watch.

Expectations for This Year
As I said in the recap of last year, that run of closer games is where we want to be this year, winning some and when we lose, keeping it competitive and close.
But as for the easy to objectify goals: 6 wins and finishing outside the bottom 4. We don't have a pick end of this season so ladder position does matter.
Big thanks to u/ownersastoner and everyone else who helped on r/NorthMelbourneFC (pls help make improvements peoples so I'm not just name dropping the one person who has helped).

There were some interesting answers for the best value draft pick as well. I was going to exclude someone who entered "1", but then I figured they might have been talking about when we traded 1 out JHF and 1 for Wardlaw, Sheezel and some later picks that were used for other picks and it got all confusing from there. I allowed it, and also the two people who mentioned JHF for the same reason.
Boomer, Larkey and Sheezel all polled well, along with some surprises that included Digby Morrel, Whitlock, Lachie Hansen, Sam Durdin and Dean Laidley. Someone said "Ronda Rousey, because Jack Ziebell drafted her when she visited" and I figured that whoever that person was, they at least knew their North Melbourne history well enough to vote.
Anyway, the community has spoken, so from here on everyone can feel free to screenshot any info they find on X, but it can't be a linked post.
As I mentioned earlier on, it's not going to make much difference with so few posts actually being X links, so whether this was the outcome you wanted or not, it won't make much of a difference in following and supporting the Kangas.

Absolutely devastated after hearing how good of a pre season the warlord has had. Hopefully it's not a major injury and he can retain his fitness and strength.

Email North supporters you're shuting down X account and going Bluesky. All Clubs will follow.
Does anyone know what access to tickets we have to the Bunbury and Perth games? We are Social Club Reserved Bay members.
Hi all Roos fans,
With the season fast approaching and the list of active mods dropping to the same odds as a Roo Girls flag repeat, there's a bit of housekeeping to be done.
First up, we'll need some more mods to come in and help run the sub. As you can see, we're all pretty hands-off for the most part, so it's not about policing posts as much as it's just keeping the place running, such as scheduling match-day threads, updating the look and feel where necessary, and occasionally muting the crazy Essendon supporters that wander in to beg to join our community.
So if anyone is interested, you can let us know below or in a DM to myself or u/dinosaur1831 to let us know, along with any familiarity with reddit modding or anything else that might be applicable.
Once we have a few more people involved, then we can take a look at anything we might set up for the season ahead. If there's anything you guys want to see from this sub, let us know by dropping it in below as well.
Go Roos!
North gonna get of X and relocate to bluesky?
Hey North fans. I trust we're all getting amped for the season now with preseason in full swing! If you're unfamiliar with my work, I run a North Melbourne focused podcast, North Pod. You can find it on all podcast apps, Youtube, you name it! I will be launching shortly for the season and looking forward to it.
Last season I did an overs/unders podcast looking at previewing and predicting the season and got some suggestions from the sub for some lines and it worked really well.
So hit me up with your over/unders for the season and I'll be sure to shout you out on the pod. I'll get the ball rolling!
Larkey to kick 50.5 goals. I'm taking over!
We are back Shinboners! On todays pod Baz & Big Chief both select 3 players who are set to have a massive 2025 and 3 players who are under the most pressure. Leave your thoughts below! Also waffle time is back for some cricket chat.

(Mods pls pin, love you and keep up the great work)
Hey shinboners, it's that time of the year where we all have to work together to create our season preview for this year.
Same as last year, I'll just list out the stuff we need to do, write out stuff in the comments and I'll copy and paste it into the post, then rewrite and word it to make it look/sound better. Also, try to keep nicknames to a minimum, cause odds are I have to rewrite them, if you are using them make sure you state their name first, E.G Nick Larkey (Souva) then you can use their nickname freely.

Expectations for This Year
Let's knock this out of the park early
Will be posted on the 5th of March to avoid a sledge thread,
I haven’t seen a New Years post so thought I’d kick one off. What are your hopes, dreams and predictions for the time capsule to check on in September? I’ll start -
A new captain (not sure who), finish 14th and less than 3 bullshit-overhyped media beat-up Clarko ‘scandals’.
Hi all
I purchased a membership for my dad. When purchasing it asks if the memebrship is for someone else, and asks for all their details. I completed this in his name.
Two days later, and the membership has been created in my name. I've emailed asking them to contact me, as they are closed to until 13 Jan.
I just wanted to ask if anyone has had this issues and successfully resolved it?
Thank you
I got Watch AFL for the upcoming season. It includes games from the past 5 seasons. What game(s) from that time period would be a really solid one to watch regardless of final score/winner. I saw games from round 17 on for the Roos last year but haven't seen any from before then.
Please provide recommendations without giving away the score or game winner.
Also I don't mind watching other team's games, just enjoy good quality footy.
The men’s team has been sucking ass lately, I’ve been a north Melbourne supporter for my entire life and I always will be, I remember when they could play great, and they can do it again
