Best Mirrors Edge Song?

For me its definiely let me disappear. Such a cool and interesting song, the first breakdown is clever as hell with the first pause being orgasmic. opinions?

Jon came on my podcast!

This week I was blessed to have Jon come on my podcast via zoom all the way from Australia. It was wicked because he called in from his studio and he’d clearly just been working on some bits. It was a great chat and he’s a lovely guy. Bit of a surreal moment as a longtime fan. He was lovely!

If anyone’s interested you can check it out here!

Heading to Tampa Concert

Sup guys!

Soo northlane actually is my favorite band ever. As soon as I saw the US tour i immediately bought the ticket. However as for I live outside the US, I’m going alone and it will be my first metal concert. Any of you guys going that day? Any tips about mosh pits or what to do in Tampa?

Thanks,

Can someone explain the Echo Chamber music video?

Its full of gags and funny parts, but it strays from the actual meaning of the song. I'm aware it the first seconds if the vid there's a message stating there was travel restrictions, but I'm skeptical.

I could just be really dumb and the music video is an April fools gag

What type of brand are the northlane T-shirts from Merchfan.co?

Hi everyone!

I was thinking of ordering some of the merch Northlane have released via merchfan but i am wondering what type of brand they're using. I am mostly familiar with gildan shirts which i don't believe they're using. I have searched on the merchfan site but can't find anything that tells me what type of brand they're using. So i am wondering if there is anyone here who has ordered from there who knows? I mostly wanna know because of size diffrences.

Afterimage Intro

Hey folks So when Northlane debuted Afterimage on the past Australian run there was an intro before the main riff started, same with when they debuted the song on Triple J. BUT this intro isn’t on Spotify.

Do we think that the intro that I’m talking about is going to be an “outro” to the song that’ll be before Afterimage on the EP to make it seamless or am I overthinking it and we’re just not going to hear it again? Because when I hear it on Triple J it absolutely broke me hahahaha

Animate live in London

I’m just voicing my frustration over my all time favorite Northlane song Animate being played once ever live in Manchester in 2016 and there’s no video of the concert in YouTube - peak frustration

Question regarding Northlane's 2024 Setlist

Hello!

How often does the band play stuff from Discoveries and/or Singularity these days?

Will be seeing them this summer but haven't really listened to a ton of stuff since those two albums so wanted to check!

Thanks!

Tickets on sale scam

Checked a few sites yesterday, to see if I could get tix early to make sure I don’t miss the show. There were a few that had them and they were all around the same price, about 200$ each cad, got them. Then today I check the venue site and they don’t accept tix from other sites, annndd they’re 30$ each. Just wanted to warn everyone, and I was curious if anyone has advice on how to get refunded. I tried their “support chat” but it’s useless. No way to talk to anyone live.

I LOOOOVE NL but…. WPs production of the new EP

It’s sounds like a blanket was thrown over the production. Bring back Nolly and Ermin.

Anyone else just hear Afterimage on triple J?

Genuinely I think this is the best track of the new ones they've released so far. Loved it. Anyone else hear it?

Mirrors Edge Updates

Anyone know when the next singles coming out? I’m so stoked to see Brendan’s working with them again even if it’s just for one song. Loved the singles so far and can’t wait for the ep to drop. This band is so fucking good.

Current tour merch

Hi community. Does anyone have a photo of recent tour merch? Hitting up a show in a few weeks and wanting to know if it's worth grabbing some. Cheers.

How “Rot” shaped the band into what they are today

Been a longtime fan of Northlane and have loved hearing them evolve over the years. I remember how polarizing Rot was when it came out, being one of the first songs with Marcus. Bringing a vocalist on with a stronger emphasis on cleans clearly marked the start of a new direction, but has anyone else noticed how some other parts of the track have subtly influenced the rest of their discography?

Inb4 the band possibly sees this I really hope this doesn’t come across as me trying to claim they keep recycling the same parts over and over again. I am merely intrigued by how they can build on their ideas, continuously paying homage to their older sound while still progressing as a band.

Ambient pad/synth at the beginning — obviously they’ve expanded on the use of synths significantly since then, though it’s worth mentioning we didn’t really hear them use them as a “hook” on Discoveries or Singularity

Abstract guitar SFX — this might be a bit more subtle but again these weren’t really present throughout Discoveries or Singularity. More noticeable on the album version of the song, they’ve creatively incorporated harmonics, feedback, scrapes and other techniques since then.

Bandpass (I think?) filtered riff/lead — this part that kicks in around “hanging by a thread” uses a similar selection of notes that can be found at the beginning of Miasma, with what sounds like pull offs, hammer ons and tapping. Recreating those techniques with a synth in their newest song shows how detail focused they are.

The big breakdown around 2:37, shifting to a time signature in 3 — this sounds like the influence carried over into the end of Talking Heads. Combining the cool guitar SFX as mentioned before with the time change, the simple slide up the neck in Talking Heads overlayed with the distorted atmosphere just hits differently.

The continued breakdown around 2:58 — this idea might a bit more of a stretch but the tasteful use of space in the instrumental after a somewhat busier part in the upper mids really lets the vocals shine here. Listening to Obsidian around 1:33, they built on this idea with double bass, saw synths, piercing harmonics and reversed atmosphere to create some contrast behind Marcus’ lines.

And of course, there’s the trippy cyberpunk vibes found throughout the video. Perhaps Marcus singing "we are all connected" isn't only referring to the human race, but their discography in general. They are truly a "metacore" band.
