Kinda bothers me

Actually, I don't really know what flair is best for this

A while back, I was with one of my sisters and mum, walking our dog. I can't remember what we were chatting about previously, I don't even think it was the slightest bit related, but my mum kinda just randomly said 'I know you want to be called Ro, but I prefer Rosie, you're just Rosie to me' and I was just flabbergasted because it felt out of no where. I don't think she has an issue with myself being nonbinary, I'm a little bit strange and I think at one point she even said that she sort of knew and saw it coming. It's just the name, but I don't think she understands that my dislike for it is because of how feminine it is; I feel like I've been tortured over the years with the amount of songs associated with 'Rosenary' since that is technically what it is at full length. But this is the problem I have: I struggle to have confidence in myself and identity and even come out fully because my family don't acknowledge that I'd prefer to go by a different name or that I cringe and flinch whenever associated with the others and grouped as 'girls' or ladies'.

... but hey I've come out to her at least 5 times, at least I know she remembers

DISSERTATION RESEARCH ON LIVED EXPERIENCE OF MEDICAL TRANSITION - looking for trans, nonbinary, genderfluid, gnc, agender or any one not cisgender, 18+

I’m looking for participants who are trans, non-binary, genderfluid, gnc, agender, or have a gender identity other than cisgender in the UK to take part in an interview about the experiences and choices made regarding medical transition.

The hope is to explore and gain an understanding of the experiences of trans people, how we access gender affirming care, and the reasons for waiting on NHS or paying privately for care.

I'm transmasc myself and have accessed gender affirming care, so I understand to some extent.

If you are trans, have experience of medical transition in England or Wales, and are over 18 you can take part.

The survey can be found here.

If you would like more information or questions please either email me at bh18vl@student.sunderland.ac.uk or message me on here.

RESPONSES INVITED! I got the gross threatening message from Reddit about the Reddit Blackout. Your opinion is important to me in deciding what to do about it.

Hi folks,

You might have noticed that I made the subreddit private for the Reddit Blackout, and I just got this message in my modmail inbox:

Hi everyone,

We are aware that you have chosen to close your community at this time. Mods have a right to take a break from moderating, or decide that you don’t want to be a mod anymore. But active communities are relied upon by thousands or even millions of users, and we have a duty to keep these spaces active.

Subreddits belong to the community of users who come to them for support and conversation. Moderators are stewards of these spaces and in a position of trust. Redditors rely on these spaces for information, support, entertainment, and connection.

Our goal here is to ensure that existing mod teams establish a path forward to make sure your subreddit is available for the community that has made its home here. If you are willing to reopen and maintain the community, please take steps to begin that process. Many communities have chosen to go restricted for a period of time before becoming fully open, to avoid a flood of traffic.

If this community remains private, we will reach out soon with information on what next steps will take place.

So smarmy and threatening, and not at all the kind of message that makes me want to behave.

But yeah, my primary agenda is to run a community that the members feel happy in.

So, what do you think, and what do you want from the subreddit? Please do raise your views, and in a few days I'll collect them into something resembling a poll for us to vote on. :)

I would open this subreddit in the mean time, but keeping it closed seems like the best way to make sure all the votes are from people active in this community! (Though goodness knows I frequent many subreddits that I don't subscribe to. Maybe I should open the subreddit and do a second poll after the first one, to see what happens. I would like to get a good, representative result from the poll(s), mainly.)

My GP says they don't do gender clinic referrals, what do I do?

A while ago I contacted my GP saying I wanted to be referred to a gender clinic, they said okay but after chasing them up on it I've been told they don't do referrals for gender clinics. I can't afford to go private but for NHS self-referrals help from the GP is needed. I don't really want to change GP, and there's no other option close by, what else can I try?

Going abroad has given some perspective on the progressiveness of the UK

I’m currently in Germany visiting Europa park. Yesterday was our first day at the park and there are gendered toilets everywhere. Now I’m transfemme but usually use the “gents” in the Uk and rarely get too many issues. But here every time I had some kinda transphobic interaction. This has kinda put things into perspective and made me realise how accepting and progressive the UK is. Yeah you get the odd comment every now and then in the UK but I’ve never had it with such frequency as I have here. Today I’m just gonna use the accessible toilet as I feel I’m just gonna start getting aggravated and aggressive towards people in the toilet, and I don’t wanna come across as such. Anyone else experienced the same on the continent?

Enby-friendly clinicians at Gender Care?

Hi!

I'm looking to book an appointment for a formal diagnosis to go ahead with getting a referral for top surgery and T. I'm looking at the LTC and have heard good things about Drs Lorimer and Bhatia in terms of being nonbinary-friendly.

There are some newly listed clinicians on the list that also look promising (Dr King Sung Leong, and Dr Christine Mimnagh) and I wanted to see if anyone had any experience of consulting with them and how open they would be to nonbinary patients. I'm thinking if they've recently started they may have slightly shorter lists, maybe wishful thinking..

Got Gender Dysphoria diagnosis to start HRT - never felt happier

First post on Reddit and just wanted to share the joy a bit, as news isn't always positive right now. But I got my gender dysphoria diagnosis to start estrogen today and getting it through is probably the happiest I have ever felt. It still feels surreal.

Had to go private as I would have had to start from the bottom of the waiting list at 23, but it was so worth it and I should be starting by the end of the year!

5 year wait but finally accepted by Leeds gic onto care pathway!

So pleased for my grown up child, they had their 2nd assessment today with Leeds gic and was given a diagnosis of gender dysphoria, we really were not expecting to get a decision and really thought it may take another appointment or two, but they had a discussion and came back and gave their decision. They at all times were very understanding and respectful and very professional. So now they are on their care pathway and will be closer to getting chest surgery. Its been a good day!

Cons(/Pros for undoomerism?) of living in the UK as a NB

I am a 19yo transfem nonbinary Canadian who always kinda wanted to move to the UK and I’m wondering what the struggles of being noncis in the UK are for you

I know about

HRT access being difficult

Changing your Gender Marker being difficult

TERFs/News Outlets/Politicians being awful

Is there anything else I should know about? how does being nonbinary/trans affect your life in the UK, what do you like about being trans in the UK? Thanks

How do you get a gender dysphoria diagnosis if you’re non-binary and don’t want hormones/a name change?

I’m a trans man and had a fairly stereotypical timeline, so navigating a diagnosis was pretty straightforward. My partner is non-binary, isn’t currently wanting hormones and likes their name, but does want top surgery. No point even trying the NHS, so going privately. Gendercare seem very gatekeepy- Lorimer seems to think nb people are ‘complicated cases’, and it’s tough proving social transition without name changes or physical changes it seems. I’m just curious, how have people gotten a diagnosis, specifically with top surgery in mind?

Oh and have you managed to do it without it costing an arm and a leg? (I mean the diagnosis appointments rather than the top surgery, we’d be doing that abroad anyway)

It’s just such unfair medicalised bollocks.

Survey for the queer community

(Hope this is ok to post here) I’m writing a theatre show with a friend about queer history, and we’re surveying members of the community to help with research. It’d be amazing if some of you had time to fill it out - it would help us loads!
