Finally picked up a packable rod set up and I’m looking for a nice hike out spot for the next couple of weekends ahead. Going solo for some bank fishing, not trying to blow up anyone’s spot, just doing it for the views and the natural. North Jersey Mountain View’s even south Jersey spots feel free to dm any locations please. Thanks
Hey there , moving shortly to ocean county NJ the whiting /Manchester area does anyone know if there are any decent fly fishing areas around there for freshwater ? Hopefully trout but I can't be too picky lol. I read a bit about toms River but seems to be contrasting info.
Thanks !
Been doing a lot of fishing for tog lately in the shark river inlet. I’m getting plenty of action but can’t seem to catch a keeper. Should I size up my bait? Change location? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you! <3
My husband's friends brought home some Black Ruff fish from South Jersey. It doesn't seem to have scales. How do I know it's good to clean and eat? Thank you. I'm not a fisher, but I want to cook it for dinner. Is there a list?
UPDATE: YALL WAS RIGHT. THAT’S TOG/BLACKFISH AND IT’S SLAMMIN. ‘Twas delicious.
Don’t have to drop a pin. Fly fisherman looking to get out tomorrow! Any tips appreciated
Any spots recommendations would be great.
How large should I go for hook size for stocked rainbow trout? I see size 6ish but I'm a bit confused as the trout are supposed to be a foot plus and I generally use 6s for bluegill. Do trout just have super small mouthes?
What advice do you have for a woman who knows nothing about fishing, but would like to either purchase something or arrange for a fishing outing for a man who loves to fish freshwater?
Trying to understand his hobbies without ruining the surprise. Thanks :-)
I’ve moved to nj recently and I can’t catch fish anymore I’ve spent at least 4 hours on every lure that I have. Fish just stop bitting in winter around here What kinda lures do you guys recommend I try?
Lot of people out at Island Beach today. I shoulda take off work sooner . Was there for 2 hours and didn’t catch anything but can’t complain it was super nice out
I recently have been watching a bunch of videos of kayak fishermen fishing bridges and pilings for sheepshead. Well I have a 12' plastic jon boat that I reckon would be perfect for sheepshead fishing myself. Anybody willing to share some info on where they fish for sheeps in south jersey? You don't have to give exact spots of course, just general location/towns.
Personally I've had been looking around Avalon Blvd Bridge, Stainton Memorial Causeway Bridge, and the Beesley Point Bridge during this summer but didn't have any luck.
Ok so my dad was a big striper guy, by far his favorite fish to go for, but unfortunately he passed before I was old enough to actually remember any of the spots that he used to go to. So now that I’m old enough to actually go myself I was wondering if anyone could give me some good surf striper spots for the current fall run bc I’m entirely new to this
My buddy and I are down in Cape May for the weekend and we are fishing Saturday and Sunday. Does anyone have any recommendations for where to fish, want to fish for, and what to use in the middle of October? Surfcasting, inlets, jetty, etc? All details and help appreciated!!!
Thanks!!
Hello there,
Just getting into this fishing thing, and similarly to my golf experience, I feel like good equipment is going to make me more successful (which, I realize, it probably will not).
Looking for advice on two rod/reel setups. I'm thinking an inshore/lighter setup, and something for offshore bigger stripers/yellowfin/anything else.
First question: Do those two designs make sense?
Second Question: Any recommendations on gear?
For the Inshore setup, I'm considering the G Loomis GCX Spinning Inshore (7'/Medium/Medium Fast) paired with a Shimano Stradic 3K/4K and PowerPro Super 8 Slick 20 lb braid.
Is that a good match for NJ?
What should I look for in the second, more Offshore setup?
Thanks so much,
BK
Any advice would be appreciated.
I see the trout stocking reports and that the trout are being stocked. Just curious if anyone knows when they stock the salmon? Fall? Winter?
How would you rank the popular NJ inshore species (Striped Bass, Bluefish, Tog, Fluke, Weakfish, sheepshead, sea bass, etc) from best to worst for table fare.
Hey everyone, I’m a relatively new fisherman and have stuck to freshwater for the past 2 years. This morning I went fishing at the Manasquan inlet with a borrowed rod and reel, and some live crabs. I caught some blackfish, a pufferfish, and sea bass. I’ve been doing research on what kind of setup to get but the answers vary greatly from location and what species to target, so I figured you guys might be able to help me out. If I were to stay in the inlet, or canal maybe, are there any suggestions on a rod length/power, reel size, line type/size? I’ll be using live crabs for the most part but I’d really like to dial into different lures as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Is anything being caught in the navesink?
Can I get a little help as to the when and how? My aone wants to take the boat there this weekend.
I fished a bit when I was much younger but I admit I know close to nothing outside of surface level. I can tie a palomar and have a $50 walmart setup lol. I went fishing once this summer at some spot in Mountainside and caught 3-4 small boys (no idea what species) using worms and sausages. Yeah 🤷🏽♂️
I watch a few guys on youtube and see em using lures and/or fake fish which is super interesting. They mostly fish from shorelines (think its called surf fishing?) or rivers/lakes. One of the videos the guy mentioned fly fishing too which sounded cool. Those two ways of fishing sounds like youre mimicking a live fish or whatever in order to bait the bite. That sounds like something i’d really want to learn.
I have no clue how to get started, especially here in Jersey with winter coming. Any direction or guidance on what to buy, what to learn, whats best to catch, etc. is much appreciated. Wont ask yall for your spots since I read about fishing pressure. If theres obvious spots yall know of though, I’d appreciate the help. I can still get some reps in even if im not catching much (or any).
And guys, I know I could go on yt or google some of this but theres a lot of BS out there and figure yall will have lots of experience and know whats best for us out here in NJ
I really appreciate it!
I finally caved and bought Waders, just ahead of the fall trout stocking. Anyone here doing any wading in streams / ponds / rivers in Morris County?
Any spots you would recommend staying away from?
Guys, i have a 8ft rod bigger real than I use for lakes/ponds. What kind of rigs/baits can be used to catch about anything.
Who sells fiddler crabs in Ocean, Monmouth or Atlantic county ? Private sellers, bait and tackle shops? Need it for bait.
Surf fishing here in ocean county New Jersey in seaside. The kingfish still biting? I know the bluefish were going crazy a couple weeks ago is that still going in? Also how’s the dogfish bite right now and what’s the best bait for them?
Recently rekindled me and my dads fishing trips to round valley and spruce run, there used to be multiple bait shops along the highway before getting there and now theres only one. Im looking for freshwater herring, ANYWHERE in jersey and am having no luck. Some guys told me near lake hopatcong but i called all of them and all of the ones i found on the internet dont exist anymore or have herring. Any information would help me, I come from new york into jersey so travelling for bait isnt my worry.
