thoughts? Every major artery in the city needs to be a one way street - traffic flows so much better this way

GPS redirected car through a toll bridge

I am a new driver (~one month). I’ve been taking the same route to work for the past three weeks (40 mile commute). Today there was a closure on the bridge, and GPS took a redirection. I ended up going through the RFK bridge through the flashing scanners that i assume are for ez pass?

My first reaction was frustration, as i had no intent to pass this bridge especially if i knew there was a toll. I also do not have an ez pass. I tried calling ez pass but it’s late in the evening (9pm when this occurred)

What are some things i can do about this? Any advice or tips will be greatly appreciated!

Failed my driving test in a NY minute!

Just venting.. This is so embarrassing but I failed my test at starette in about 30 seconds. I’ve been practicing my SO 2018 Mercedes and using a 2002 Toyota Camry provided by my driving school was very foreign to me. I thought I was a great driver but that old car humbled me very quickly. I thought I started the car and was ready to take off, but apparently it wasn’t even on. 🫠 Don’t get me started on how it just takes off after lightly feathering the gas. I drove that car like it was my first time behind the wheel. If anyone has any tips please feel free to share!

Why did i get aggressively cut off by a car while on my motorcycle on FDR

So I got a new motorcycle last week. I’m pretty new to motorcycle and driving in general so dont understand the common courtesey things you do on a road.

Today i took the bike for the first time on FDR. Just a few mins after i entered the FDR from downtown, i realized that i was in the left-most lane so i slowly moved over to the right most lane bacause i’m not comfortable with riding on high speeds just yet. After about 30 seconds of that, i was riding on the right side of the right most lane at about 45 mph when this sedan cut me off so hard that i had to brake or else i’d have hit him. For the life of me, i cant imagine why did the guy do this.

  1. Was I riding too slow for FDR? (I was on 45 mph)

  2. Did i piss him off when trying to switch lanes?

  3. Something else?

NYC Driving Schools

Does anyone have good recommendations on driving schools that have the option to learn in an SUV? I've taken driving classes with the usual smaller cars and I feel fine with those but if I get my license I would be driving a suv. My dad owns a suv due to his job and while I practice with my father, he isn't the best explainer. I know the skills are transferrable but I rather learn how to navigate a bigger car from a licensed instructor.

Does this sign mean that street cleaning is tonight at 3am early morning hours, or tomorrow Sunday at 3am (coming off Saturday)? Night cleaning is weird with the day they mean when it's 12am midnight, so I want to make sure.

Caution: Warmer weather means worse drivers. Be careful out there!

It is my belief that there is an inverse correlation between higher temperatures and lower IQ's on the road. This is just from my observations, but drivers seem to be dumber when it's nice out, so watch out.

Driving in New York with a non-US License

I'm looking for updated information on what is needed to drive in NYC and elsewhere in the state with a non-NY, or even non-US license.

I'm a traveller with a valid driving licence from my home country, India, and the NY DMV is clear that "you can drive in New York State with a valid driver license from another country".

However, I am seeing conflicting anecdotal information online (on reddit, Quora etc.) about the need for something called an International Driving Permit.

Even about that, the NY DMV says, "If you have a driver license from another country you do not need to have an International Driving Permit, but it is helpful.".

I'm guessing the concern is that non-US driving licenses are in foreign languages, but mine is all in English.

Any recent and first-hand information that will help clarify this is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
