NewJersey Subreddit Rules (Moderator discretion applies)
Adhere to the same standards of behavior online that you follow in real life.
R1: No hate speech or trolling: Racism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, sexism, & hate speech against minority groups, religions, or national origin is prohibited. That goes for language you might have used in other subs.
R2: No reposts, redundant content, or old news. Check the queue first before posting.
R3: No posts for information or requests for illegal products, services, or activities. No unnecessary violent content.
R4: No off-topic posts. Content must be substantially about or unique to New Jersey.
R5: When possible, link to the original article of a news story, and absolutely NOT a partisan re-write to make a political point. No linkjacking.
R6: No links to articles behind hard paywalls (like Wall Street Journal). Soft paywalls are allowed (like NY Times & NorthJersey.com)
R7: Headline & link format: No link shorteners or otherwise obscured links, including posts, text, and comments.
R8: Articles must be submitted as Links, not as a Self-Post.
R9: No ALL CAPS TITLES or inappropriate use of NSFW/Spoiler flairs to get increased visibility. Submissions must in English.
R10: Please, don't post a help/advice question needing a local business without mentioning where you are or how far are you willing to travel, etc. It does no good for us to help you find the nearest shoe repair shop in Atlantic County only to find out later you're in Morris.
R11: No denying, downplaying, or spreading misinformation about COVID 19 or measures to reduce its spread. This includes: vaccines, quarantines, limits on gatherings, mask wearing, contact tracing, and other public health measures. Moderators can and will use personal judgement when enforcing this rule.
And finally...
Don't drive slow in the left/passing lane.
Don't drive with high beams on while passing traffic.
Don't take up more than one spot in a parking lot.
Don't drive with snow and ice on your car.
Don't shift lanes / make a turn without using your turn signal.
What to do:
Be nice, be funny, be informative. Shitposts may be allowed if they make moderators laugh.
Events! What going on in New Jersey? Post it! (But not NYC or Philly; they have their own subs.)
If you're rude, you better be twice as funny.
If you're self-promoting, it better be good.
Report accidents, incidents, and closed roads on Waze.
Any question on rules or other sub issues, please message the moderators.

I saw that NY and CA governors are passing legislation to expand their states rights. Is Murphy also doing this?
First-time homeowner and closing date is later in the month! Our realtor just informed me that waste management is privatized and we need to select our vendor.
For any Westfield resident, do you have a recommendation?
So the Forrest fire in Pompton Lakes right now is literally on the DuPont Superfund Site… you know the contaminated, fenced off area…
Doesn’t anyone else realize how concerning that is?! People in the area were concerned about vapors from the contamination site coming into there nearby homes. Now it’s ALL being sent up in smoke for every surrounding town to breathe in through a controlled burn.
This is an East Palestine, Ohio level event, and I don’t see anybody talking about it.
Looking for a great restaurant to celebrate someone’s birthday.
Took this picture around 11:30. Doesn’t even do the actually size a just I just couldn’t fit more in cause I was behind a cage link fence and had the point through a hole. Is there any residencies nearby? This is on 287 right on the opposite of the bridge that nicely overlooks Wanaque/ ringwood
My boyfriend and I currently live in my hometown Memphis, TN. We are are talking about the possibility of moving to Yardville-Groveville NJ because a family friend lives there. Is that a pretty liberal area? We are left-leaning. We live in a small blue oasis in the red state of Tennessee, which is nice, but the crime here in Memphis has gotten out of control, and I really want to move to a blue state if possible. Looks like the cost of living there is not too bad, pretty similar to Memphis actually! Can anyone tell me about their living experience in Yardville-Groveville or surrounding areas?
I thought cave crickets were attracted to damp places?
There hasn't been anything "damp" in this state in teo months. It's drier than burnt waffle in a dust bowl out there.
Yet, a fucking cave cricket just walked across the couch. Anybody have a good solution? This is the 7th or 8th one I've seen the last few weeks.
Wondering if anyone has insights about the North Part of Short Hills north of South Orange Avenue and close to Livingston. Is that neighborhood isolated from the "main" Short Hills neighborhoods? Is that section cheaper than other parts of Short Hills? Thanks!
Hi I’m making a porchetta for Christmas dinner for my family this year, but I’m not sure where to get it at.
For those who don’t know, a porchetta is a pork belly with the pork chop loin attached to it.
Location wise, I live in Oaklyn nj. Would a shop rite or a acne have this cut of pork? Or would a butcher shop have this cut.
Thank you for reading
Hello, before I start to get really into the details, I should probably provide a little bit of context. I’m in my 20’s, and have a girlfriend who is looking to move here from another state. I wanted to know roughly how much we would need to have saved (separately) in order to move in together in the north jersey area. I have a secure job, and she would have a job secured prior to moving here. She also has a pitbull, which I know tends to be a big factor in terms of apartment finding. It would just be us so a one bedroom would be just fine. I have moved out before, but due to my roommate doing hard drugs I had to move back in with my mother, so I don’t really know much about cost of living or anything. Just looking for any pointers at this point and any advice. Thank you in advance!
All of these T———C NY plates and NJ with a fleet of its own incompetents CLOGGING the damn highways.
It is high time to get rid of you rating dependent freaks hogging up the left lane. Because you wanna have a smooth ride for your passenger right?
That’s bullshit. As the occasional passenger I am mortified when they do this. Dude fucking MOVE over. For now on I’m doing what I learned recently, tell people to rate poorly the left lane drifters.
Left lane, for the 5 billionth time in this sub, is not for you incompetent douchebags to cruise control and cause road ragers to make traffic doubly worse.
The fact you have no code, no scruples… fuck em. I’m comfortable here.
Piece of shit.
So me and a friend were arguing over the median salary in NJ compared to other states, and so we of course decided to do some Google magic. According to Google (or at least the AI overview) the median salary is ~$114,000 per year. I could understand this for the mean salary, but it seems waaay too high for just the median salary in our state! Just wondering if this is just some AI overestimation and where this data variance may come from, and what you guys would say the actual median salary should be?
Was driving down 95 S past the American Dream mall and the entire meadowlands area was covered in what seems like smoke but didn’t smell. I think it was basically a dust storm from being so f’in dry.
Dust was blowing across the highway with these higher winds tonight. I’ve never seen anything like it here or anywhere in the Northeast. Crazy.
Anyone have tickets and are unable to go? Turns out I waited tooing to get them. Thanks
Soooo….how are we all feeling about money right now? I’m not optimistic. My household doesn’t make a lot of money, but we get by. We have everything we need, save a bit, and even have a little leftover for what we want, although we have very humble desires. I don’t know what’s best right now. The house needs work, but is totally livable. My car is old enough to vote and go to war, but it’s a brand that can give me several more years if I spend the money on upkeep….which isn’t exactly cheap on an 18/19 year old car, but the repairs on current vehicles are just as expensive these days anyway. Do I shell it out now because the incoming tariffs and other cost of living increases are really going to hurt, or do I anticipate drowning and save every last penny I can?
Has anyone been able to get down payment assistance for a co-op in NJ. How was your experience? Does it have to be thru their own lender. Tia
So went to Mystic, CT and there was a bakery (Sift) that had these pecan sticky buns. Similar to a cinnamon roll with pecans and caramel. They were incredible. I’ve been looking for anything similar local (Union County) and beyond, and no luck. We have a million Italian, Portuguese, Colombian, etc bakeries. A lot of them overlap and carry similar items, but I cant find these anywhere. Any recommendations? Dont mind traveling.
He was propping his cart up on the curb while I was getting out of my car. I chidingly (though not too aggressively) asked, “really man? You can’t just put it away?” And to my GREAT SURPRISE, he said “you know what, you’re right. My bad. I’ll put it away.” And grabbed his own cart and another cart and took them to the corral. I thanked him for being cool about it. Sometimes people ain’t so bad.
I know this is a long shot but I'm wondering if there are any places that have a Dj that play underground rap from the 90s. They have spots like this in Japan I see from YouTube and it looks mad chill!
My dad just had 2 strokes. Has lived in Nj his whole life and likely won’t be able to return to work for at least a few months. He’s a W2 hourly employee and taking social security, although needs his work income to make ends meet.
Anyone know how to navigate? His work knows he went to the hospital but nothing about what happened and the timetable to recover.
Should we talk to their HR first? Then look at FMLA or short term disability.
Any advice or timeline of what we should do would be really helpful in this hard time.
Anyone in Plainfield nj that knows of anyone hiring.
For a newborn, thanks!
Hello, so I recently got a new job and leaving my old job in a week. The problem is that they don’t have anyone to do CAD work for my old job. The solution my boss and I are trying to do is remote work. Im thinking about providing the shop drawings as a contractor of llc. I’m confident I can get these done however I don’t know how to set it up without getting in trouble. Trouble not getting in trouble with my new job, payment, and taxes. What do you guys think?
