Does anyone know the remote work policies for employees of the NL Gov? Specifically for St. John's offices?
Looking for recordings of the Newfoundland French dialect. Not St. Pierre & Miquelon dialect, not Arcadian Stephenville diapect, would probably have to be some elderly person on the peninsula west of Stephenville or something.
Hey, I’m a teenager and I really wanted to meet other LGBTQ people (my high school has none really) does anyone know anywhere I can do that in St Johns?
I will be moving to Corner Brook area for work. What part of the town/area are sketchy and what parts are nicer?
Who works on German cars in the St. John’s area other than dealerships? Specifically looking for a MB. Thanks in advance!
Hey everyone. Anyone know if the disc golf course in airport heights is open yet. And if it is, is there a map somewhere of course layout ? Thanks
Hey I don’t have a family doctor and I am unavailable to go into emergency for a note. I’ve been sick for three days and need a note for school. Does 811 give doctors notes? Does anyone know where I can get one? Thank you guys
Hello! As title says myself and my sister are likely moving to Newfoundland in April-ish of 2025. We’re moving from BC and intend to drive over and settle in Carbonear or St. John’s currently.
So I wanted to ask… what is the job market like out there? I’m a diverse worker with experience mostly in administration but my sister has worked in cafes/cafe management most of her life. What’s the likelyhood of us landing jobs before we move?
Other than that, what are some tips for a new person coming to the area? And great spots to hit up in the spring?
Thanks!
He is looking for a good winter shoe to go walking. (Not hiking, just walking on trails and stuff) He has heel and foot pain (probably from wearing the wrong footwear) and also needs a shoe with some traction so he doesn't slip on the ice. Can anyone recommend a good brand? Or where to go in St. John's?
Apologies - my last post on this subject I hope! If you want to keep track of what is being said about it in the media and what the Ward 3 candidates think about this and other subjects, there's an up to date list here. Quite a few people have been saying that those who want density should not raise concerns about the way the city has been treating this application, which would provide it. As someone who wants more housing *and* wants the development application process done right, I have written the city with my personal point of view (I've spoken out about it publicly but only as a representative of Happy City). Here is that submission to the city.
TL;DR This application could be a lot more ambitious (bigger, for a start!) and therefore beneficial to the city if council made it clear it is looking for and would support something that shows a little vision. At present the proposal looks like the same old approach - possibly because that's what the developer thinks will get through most smoothly. But this is such a perfect space to try something new - putting something unimaginative there would be a wasted opportunity. Go ahead with an agreement in principle, let the developer spell out a detailed plan (which they need time to work on anyway) but start talking in parallel about what would make it a great project.

Hi there everyone, I originally posted on here 6 months ago about how I had started a server for LGBTQ+ and general geekiness here in the province. Since it's been so long, as well as me seeing a ton of LGBTQ+ posts here on the sub lately, I thought it'd be a good time to mention it again. There's nearly 100 of us at this point, and whether you want to talk about LGBTQ stuff as it relates to here in NL, or just nerd out about your favorite show/movie/game/whatever, it'd be great to have you :)
So CBC NL has been posting a story every day or so since it was announced. Here are a few:
N.L. can't afford national cuts to immigration targets, minister says
Immigration essential to keep N.L.'s economy afloat, experts say amid cuts from Ottawa
Immigration cuts will hurt N.L., St. John's business owner says
Not blaming CBC for that-- it is a big story. However, has anyone been floored by what some of the talking heads are saying? This one in particular stands out:
"We don't have the critical investment in housing, health care and public transportation to complement the actual human capital brought into this country," Fang said.
But Newfoundland and Labrador is in a very different situation.
"We have a lot of room to grow," Fang said.
He literally just said the rest of Canada doesn't have the critical investment in housing and healthcare, while that's not the case in Newfoundland, when you have to wait 12 hours at the hospital and there is no where to rent. What planet are these people living on?
Edit Feel like I shouldn't have to explicitly have to state this, but I guess I do.. saying immigration should be cut to keep pace with housing and infrastructure is not the same as saying you hate immigrants or that there should be no immigration.
Hi I'm buying a SUV from a used dealership in Nova Scotia and it'll be delivered to me here in Newfoundland. So I'm basically wondering will there be any extra fees or taxes I'll need to pay when I get it registered. Or is it a situation where the HST is the same in both provinces so I just pay the registration fee.
I am currently seeing Dr Sinnott and heavily considering detransition. Has anybody here detransitioned under her care or talked to her about that subject?
