A subreddit for lovers of New Age, Contemporary Instrumental, Neo-Classical, Space, Spa, and Ethnic Fusion Music

New Age music is a genre of music intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation, and optimism.

  • New-age music includes both acoustic forms, featuring instruments such as flutes, piano, acoustic guitar, and a wide variety of non-Western acoustic instruments, as well as electronic forms, frequently relying on sustained synth pads or long sequencer-based runs.

  • Vocal arrangements were initially rare in the genre, but as it has evolved vocals have become more common.

There are a significant number of definitions/sub-genres of New Age music

and others.

Andreas Vollenweider Pyramid - In the Wood - In the Bright Light

Anyone have any information on the vocals in the track? Is it a sample? If so, of what? It’s very catchy and I would just love to know what the words are and in what language. They occur at 4:30 and again at 6:44.

I told my friend this was "New Age" and...

They said it was prog rock. While some of the best "new age" in my opinion (Patrick O'Hearn, etc) is a bit prog adjacent, can music this good be both? Or does it matter as long as it's great and enjoyable?

Help Identify a Beautiful New Age/Electronic Song from the Mid 80s/Early 90s

I'm searching for a beautiful, relaxing song (not sure if by Vangelis but it sure sounds like it) that I believe was released in the mid 1980s or early 1990s. It features an ambient, electronic sound, using synthesizers similar to the ones used in the remastered version of "Theme from Antarctica" by Vangelis.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts5HzcoAJ8A&ab_channel=Vangelis-Topic

A standout element is the echoey, thundering hand clap sound, which is identical to the one in "Theme from Antarctica."

The song starts with a long synthesizer sequence of C, F, and G notes (I may be incorrect) that repeat, creating a calming and atmospheric mood. I recall renting a CD in the early '90s containing this track, and the album cover was mostly white (though I can't remember the title).

Interestingly, I remember this song was used as background music for a Philippine company (PLDT) TV commercial titled "The Good News," narrated by journalist Che Che Lazaro. Despite being somewhat popular at the time, I can't seem to find it on Spotify or other platforms.

I also attached a couple of sound videos of my horrible attempt at recreating the notes, hope it helps.

It kind of starts like this

This appears in the middle through the end

Mike Oldfield’s The Songs of Distant Earth — A Piano & Orchestral Tribute

Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to share my take on Mike Oldfield’s The Songs of Distant Earth. This project is deeply personal to me—an all-time influence and favorite since childhood. I’ve blended my piano arrangement of Let There Be Light, Supernova, and Magellan with electric guitar, vocals, percussion, strings, and band instruments. 🌌🎹

Mike Oldfield’s original work beautifully honored the connection between ocean life and the vastness of space. The haunting calls of whales, echoing through the seas, remind us of companionship and community—timeless music that follows us even as we dream of venturing beyond Earth.

What to Expect in the Video:

  • An ensemble arrangement of pieces from The Songs of Distant Earth
  • Electric guitar, piano, strings, drums, and vocals weaving a cosmic story
  • Visuals featuring nebulae, galaxies, and oceanic elements blending into the stars

Why It Matters: Music is more than entertainment—it’s a lifeline to our shared humanity and imagination. Mike Oldfield’s themes invite reflection on our place in the universe and the power of creativity to connect us all. This project is my tribute to that vision: a celebration of our world’s beauty and a hopeful destiny for humanity.

Call to Action: By liking, sharing, and subscribing, you help keep music and the arts at the heart of culture, economy, and our shared future. Let’s celebrate creativity and continue the songs of Earth as we look to the stars!

Help finding an old song from ~2004-2008? It repeated the words "light without heat" and may have had bioluminescence in the title or album?

I tried searching everywhere. I am pretty sure it was in this time frame. It was a longer song like maybe 5-6 minutes, no major lyrics other than those repeated words. There may have been another phrase in there too. I think it may have been from a New Age compilation album with various artists.

Any ideas!? Thank you. It was super catchy.

Question about Tibetan (or Himalayan) singing bowls; for anyone with experience? Thank you in advance

Do you think there's a big difference from a set of 7 Tibetan singing bowls for like $150 on eBay or Etsy vs a set of 7 from a more new agey spiritual store like (Himalayanbowls dot com, the Ohm store, etc) that sells for $800? Is it just marketing? Thank you
