Michael invites approximately 200 people - children & their families from 6 special centers, including churches, church schools, etc. to Neverland and reiterates previous statements regarding the access of families, as well as tourists around the world, welcomed to spend time and tour Neverland. He also greets the gathering families and verbally addresses them with holiday wishes
Michael's spokesperson at the time, Raymone Bain, also present at the event, says that it was not an out-of-the-ordinary event at Neverland :
"[…] And at least 2 to 4 times a month, organizations are allowed to come here. And, since this was the last part of the holidays, he decided he would surprise the kids by doing so and they’re very happy about that"
The event was an annual Christmas festivity, where hundreds of inner-city and underprivileged children and adults spent their time exploring the surroundings at the ranch, riding attractions, snacking on food and drinks, watching movies and playing in a two-story arcade, all of these being provided free-of-charge by Michael & often even during his absence
Some of the enthusiastic statements heard from the smiling faces of the children, ages 3 years to 17 years, sounded as follows:
"This has made our Christmas."
“This is a dream come true.”
"To us, Michael Jackson is bigger than Santa Claus."
"Never in our wildest imaginations did we think that we would get a chance to say hello to Michael Jackson.”
The Advocate-Messenger, 12/1/92
They are treated to a tour of his ranch, a meal and a film.
The Dream Street program is an organization for children with life-threatening illnesses.
The group included children from the Soviet Union, Britain & all over the US.
Michael said that he supported Project Dream Street because it “put importance on being a child and having fun"
I originally posted this on the Michael Jackson Reddit (I’m still pretty new here) but it only felt right to report as a local of Santa Barbara county and a big Michael Jackson fan about the recent news. There is a fire burning Near Sycamore Valley Ranch. The initial report came in around 3:45 pst that a vegetation fire started near Zaca lake. For those unfamiliar with the Santa Ynez valley, Zaca Lake sits adjacent to Neverland ranch. If my knowledge in local history is correct Sycamore Valleg used to be part of Zaca Ranch. As for numbers, the fire sits at 500 acres. on a historical note, the famous Zaca fire of 2007 started on July 4 of that year. A bit strange that history repeated itself almost to the day. I’m here in Goleta, right outside Santa Barbara. The fire is right over the mountain range and I can see the smoke growing. I first noticed it coming home from work, but it has only grown since. Please keep Los Olivos, Solvang and the Santa Ynez valley in your prayers as well as the surrounding areas that will be affected by the smoke and ash. So far Solvang is reporting confetti size smoke.
I’ll try my best to update
Hey everyone!
Just wanted to let you guys know that this sub will be going dark on Tuesday, June 25th to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Michael's passing.
I feel that it's the respectful thing to do & honestly I will probably need the small reprieve in my moderation duties
Everything will be back to normal on Wednesday the 26th
Thank you for your understanding & for being a part of this community
