In honor of the 17 lost lives at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and in support of the brave survivors and advocates that are standing up. This community runs on the grounds of open debate toward gun control (or lack thereof), with the philosophy that all can contribute. Change starts with YOU.

~Message u/hazeust if you think we should add anything more to this sidebar that would be informative.

WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

#NeverAgain is a viral movement dedicated to both the lost lives from any and ALL mass shootings, and those striving for justice from these mass shootings by advocating various measures to prevent any future tragedies. This subreddit is an unofficial place for redditors to debate on a solution to these problems, and to put an end to them, once and for all.

We try our best to be an open subreddit and let ALL parties get a say, and to never be drowned out.

~Talk to u/hazeust if you have any ideas for any additional rule(s) and/or punishment(s). We want this community to be as united and as open as possible.

Gun Safety Petition

Gun-related violence in the U.S. has become really top of mind for me and a lot of folks. The New England Journal of Medicine states that death from firearms (suicide etc.) has become the leading cause of death among young people age 1-19. The passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is quite encouraging but I don’t think it is enough to truly address all of our issues. I created a petition with what I believe to be some common sense gun legislation and am posting it everywhere I can in hopes of gaining a lot of support to show Senators (slowest moving legislative branch) the will of the people. Thank you for reading and potentially signing!

Constant media broadcasting these perpetrators are creating copy cats.

"We know that mass shootings are socially contagious and tend to occur in clusters," said Jillian Peterson, a criminology professor.

  • [IZA Institute - The Effect of Media Coverage on Mass

Shootings](http://ftp.iza.org/dp11900.pdf)

Our findings consistently suggest that media coverage systematically causes future mass shootings. These findings are consistent when accounting for weekday- and month-fixed effects, time trends, as well as characteristics

of preceding mass shootings. A range of robustness checks support these conclusions.

Through analysis of media coverage, both traditional and social, of the shootings at Columbine,

Virginia Tech, and Parkland, one can conclude that the media era in which a shooting took place had an enormous effect on how shootings were covered in the news. This study suggests that there is a pattern between the spread of mass shooting news on social media platforms and the increase in these crimes. Over time, as social media has increased in usage, so has the coverage of news concerning mass shootings. This also further reflects shooters’ desire for fame and their tendency to copy a crime.

It would be very unfortunate if the media continues to publish articles and broadcast news stories that give mass shooters the attention they want. It would also be unfortunate if, as members of a democracy, we continue to encourage the media’s behavior through our morbid curiosity and consumption habits, or continue to condone it through our silence and inaction. Ignorance is no longer a defense

People have been arguing that mass shootings are a direct result of white nationalism. I would like to debunk that lie.
