D.C. Wegmans Project

Does anyone know for sure what the megaproject is right next to the Dickson City Wegmans? Asked a worker and they mentioned a Wawa, but its doubtful that all the construction would be for just that...

Breakfast place near Montage Mountain

We are taking our teenage sons on an Old Forge Pizza weekend in two weeks. Could someone recommend a nice breakfast spot for us to hit before we head home?

Restaurant suggestions in Matamoras

Hi!! Visiting back home (Middletown, NY) and staying in Matamoras. Looking, please, for restaurants in Matamoras/PJervis areas. Truth is we retired to southern VA — and are HUNGRY for real food! IYKYK. Good pubs, great pizza, anything with flavor other than sweetened.

Pizza in Old Forge with no onions

I'm going to find myself in Old Forge Friday afternoon and feel obliged to try the pizza. Problem for me is I dislike onions and it seems most (if not all) of the pizza places have onions in their sauce. Can anyone recommend me a good spot to go where I can get it with no onions or at least where the onions are slivered up pretty good? Thanks in advance.

Fishing Spots near lord's Valley and license questions.

Anyone have any good places to fish for trout around Lord's Valley/Honesdale areas? Also what's the deal with the licensing in PA? I see there's a freshwater fishing license but also a trout license? Do I need to have both to fish for trout if that's the only species I'm going for? I'm assuming the freshwater license is only good for species other than trout?

Eddie Day Pashinski Campaign Ad

Some background: I’m not trying to be political. If you know local history, Eddie Day is a local guy who had various bands in his youth (I remember Eddie Day and TNT). So he’s somewhat of a local celebrity who parlayed that into a political career. That’s fine.

My comment is that he needs a better media team. I can’t find any links online, but if you watch the local stations, I’m sure you’ve seen it.

I think the crew that Saul Goodman hired could do a better job. 😂

It’s poorly written (word salad mumbo jumbo), and even more poorly acted.

I don’t think it really matters, AFAIK, he’s got the election locked up. Anyone who’s run against him in the past has lost soundly since he’s in a heavy Democratic district.

It’s just funny to watch.

UGI rant/advice

My mom (who is disabled and low-income) was on UGI's CAP program. She got the papers to recertify in April, and we filled them out and mailed them like usual. Well... Yesterday, she got a letter from UGI stating that she never sent the recertification papers (even though I mailed them out within a week of her getting them), and that she's no longer in the program. She called them to see what she could do, and supposedly she cannot apply again unless she gets a shutoff notice.

Does that sound right? Has anyone else ever dealt with something similar?

Meeting Candidates

Hypothetically if you were going to a community meeting to meet the local candidates, what specific questions would you ask them? Why are those questions important? And what would be a good answer that doesn't just say I have "concepts of a plan?"

Anti-Satan rally near WB Olive Garden tonight

Anyone see this or know what was going on tonight right outside OG in WB? It looked like they had signs and flags denouncing Satan. Also appeared to be a marching band or musicians playing for them also.

What kind of snake is this?

Saw this near a local creek and it lunged at me after I lingered too long. Anyone know what kind of snake it is? Anything I should know?

Powerlifting gyms

My partner and I are visiting for a few days next week to see my family. Staying in Scranton, but will spend some time in the Endless Mountains area and may also see some friends in Wilkes-Barre. Are there any local powerlifting gyms with short-term rates?

Status of Hoppy/Upper Narrows Road (East Falls-Ransom)?

Does anyone know if this road is still public property all the way through? It’s listed on GPS but after a certain point it’s posted with blue for no trespassing which makes me think it likely reverted to private property.

Geisinger is more dangerous than ever

I used to think Geisinger was the upper echelon of healthcare in this area. I could not have been more wrong. Perhaps there was a time that Geisinger was great, but it has fallen so far below normal standards of care, that it is truly is scary. I can’t speak for all of their hospitals but I can definitely speak on the Wyoming Valley hospital. This establishment is a house of cards. It is a Jenga game teetering on a loose block. There has been a dangerous increase of HAIs (hospital acquired infections), preventable deaths, and even staff harassing patients and each other. Not to mention a large increase in bedbug/rodent/roach infestations throughout the hospital. You have administrative and HR teams working remotely with no idea what’s actually going on in the hospital. The HR teams are causing an extraordinary amount of chaos due to an insane ideology that turns certain groups into victims that “need to be protected”. You have people working there that do not belong there and are even dangerous to have around patients/patient families and staff. Management can not even tell their staff to do their job or it’s seen as “harassment”. As long as these staff members say magic words, they’re locked into their jobs for years by HR. Basically you have an entire hospital made up of mostly benchwarmers. They’re losing good physicians left and right (at all of their hospitals and clinics). Geisinger is desperately trying to mitigate this problem by installing “labor relations directors” into their hospitals (just check Indeed). Knowing what I now know, I would NEVER take myself or my family members to this hospital system. Please think twice if you find yourself in need of healthcare and if you can safely make it to a different hospital system, I strongly encourage you to do so. I was compelled to post this to save lives, and I really hope it does.

Any good areas to stay near Wilkes-Barre for a wedding?

We're getting married at the Luzerne Courthouse in December and have family coming to join. Wilkes-Barre is pretty run down... any nicer areas to stay that wouldn't be too far from the courthouse? Looking for something more appealing to the eye and that has nicer restaurants. Thanks!

Eric Frein Manhunt

Today marks the 10th Anniversary of the Eric Frein manhunt. I was in the midst of my first adult job at the time, and I can remember my coworkers saying some wild theories. It was actually weird because our company provided an annual service to the entire NEPA division of the state police and a week before the attack, they cancelled the service for the first time ever. I know they received around 15Million from the government to fund the manhunt. This only fueled rumors further. A lot of the details at that time seemed suspect. Does anyone have any insight into what actually happened?

Craft / High Volume Bartender Looking for Work in Scranton / Wilkes-Barre

Hello NEPA! After 20 years I’ve made the decision to move back home and I’m looking for work. I have over 15 years in the industry, and I’ve worked in pretty much any and every type of establishment that serves people alcohol. I don’t want to doxx myself, so I won’t name names in this post, but if you’re a business owner or hiring manager I’ll happily provide you with my resume through email or via Culinary Agents.

This is my signature Bloody Mary that I originally created for a certain Philadelphia institution known for charcuterie. It’s called The Immaculate Concoction.

Jobs Hiring

Is there anywhere in NEPA that is guaranteed to hire right now? Something that won't tell you "we'll help you get the position" and then hire someone else? Looking for a job is like trying to find a needle in a haystack right now.

Anyone know what happened to Andy Palumbo? He hasn't been on the air for a couple of week, his longtime blog has been taken down and his social media is pretty much gone. I can only imagine he left or was let go. Any insight?

NEPA Famous

I'm working on a list of people who are considered 'NEPA Famous.' Anyone that is in NEPA most of the time and is widely known and hopefully appreciated throughout the area. This could be athletes, media personalities, business owners, musicians, or other local figures.

TIA for your suggestions!

Jury Duty Excused Timeline?

Recently moved out of state from my parents place in NEPA and haven't updated my address yet. Jury duty came for me back at my parents, which my parents filled out informing them I had moved and no longer reside in the county. Is this a reasonable enough reason to be excused from jury duty? Should I expect and plan to not be excused and have to return home for said date? Anyone else deal with this, what was your timeline for hearing back about a decision if you were excused?

ETA: my patents just got my excusal notice in the mail so the timeline was about 2 weeks, thanks to all who commented!
